1 Or les Philistins se battirent contre Israël ; et les hommes d’Israël s’enfuirent devant les Philistins, et tombèrent morts sur la montagne de Gilboa.
|
1 Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.
|
2 Et les Philistins poursuivirent durement Saul et ses fils, et les Philistins tuèrent Jonathan, ainsi que Abinadab et Malchishua, les fils de Saul.
|
2 And the Philistines followed hard after Saul, and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.
|
3 Et la bataille se renforça contre Saul, et les archers l’atteignirent, et il fut blessé par les archers.
|
3 And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him, and he was wounded of the archers.
|
4 Alors Saul dit à celui écuyer qui portait ses armes : Tire ton épée et transperce m’en, de peur que ces incirconcis ne viennent, et ne m’outragent. Mais celui qui portait ses armes ne voulut pas, car il était fort effrayé. Saul prit donc l’épée et se jeta dessus.

4 Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
|
5 Alors celui qui portait ses armes, ayant vu que Saul était mort, se jeta, lui aussi, sur l’épée, et mourut.
|
5 And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.
|
6 Ainsi moururent Saul et ses trois fils, et toute sa maison mourut en même temps.
|
6 So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together.
|
7 Et quand tous les hommes d’Israël qui étaient dans la vallée virent qu’on avait fui, et que Saul et ses fils étaient morts, ils abandonnèrent alors leurs villes et s’enfuirent ; et les Philistins vinrent et y demeurèrent.
|
7 And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then they forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
|
8 ¶ Et il arriva le lendemain, lorsque les Philistins vinrent pour dépouiller les morts, qu’ils trouvèrent Saul et ses fils tombés sur la montagne de Gilboa.
|
8 ¶ And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.
|
9 Et après l’avoir dépouillé, ils prirent sa tête et ses armes¸ et les envoyèrent dans le pays des Philistins, de tous côtés, pour annoncer la nouvelle à leurs idoles et au peuple.
|
9 And when they had stripped him, they took his head, and his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry tidings unto their idols, and to the people.
|
10 Et ils mirent ses armes dans la maison de leurs dieux, et attachèrent sa tête dans le temple de Dagon.
|
10 And they put his armour in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.
|
11 Et quand tout Jabeshgilead apprit tout ce que les Philistins avaient fait à Saul ;

11 ¶ And when all Jabeshgilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
|
12 Tous les hommes vaillants se levèrent et prirent le corps de Saul, et les corps de ses fils, et les apportèrent à Jabesh, et ils enterrèrent leurs os sous le chêne à Jabesh, et ils jeûnèrent sept jours.
|
12 They arose, all the valiant men, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
|
13 ¶ Ainsi Saul mourut à cause de sa transgression, laquelle il avait commise contre le SEIGNEUR, c’est-à-dire contre la parole du SEIGNEUR qu’il n’avait pas tenue, et aussi pour avoir pris conseil de quelqu’un qui avait l’esprit de divination, pour s’en enquérir.

13 ¶ So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;
|
14 Il ne s’était pas enquis du SEIGNEUR, c’est pourquoi il le fit mourir, et livra le royaume à David, le fils de Jesse.
|
14 And enquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.
