1 Alors, tout le peuple de Judah (Juda) prit Uzziah, qui était âgé de seize ans, et ils le firent roi à la place de son père Amaziah.

 1 Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah.

2 Il bâtit Eloth, et la rétablit pour Judah (Juda), après que le roi se fut endormi avec ses pères.

 2 He built Eloth, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.

3 Uzziah était âgé de seize ans quand il commença à régner, et il régna cinquante-deux ans à Jérusalem. Le nom de sa mère était Jecoliah, de Jérusalem.

 3 Sixteen years old was Uzziah when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Jecoliah of Jerusalem.

4 Et il fit ce qui était droit à la vue du SEIGNEUR, selon tout ce qu’avait fait Amaziah, son père.

 4 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah did.

5 Et il rechercha Dieu pendant les jours de Zachariah, qui avait de la compréhension dans les visions de Dieu ; et aussi longtemps qu’il rechercha le SEIGNEUR, Dieu le fit prospérer.

 5 And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.

6 Et il sortit et fit la guerre contre les Philistins ; et il abattit la muraille de Gath, et la muraille de Jabneh, et la muraille d’Ashdod ; et il bâtit des villes autour d’Ashdod, et au milieu des Philistins.

 6 And he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and brake down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod, and built cities about Ashdod, and among the Philistines.

7 Et Dieu l’aida contre les Philistins et contre les Arabes qui demeuraient à Gurbaal, et contre les Mehunims.

 7 And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians that dwelt in Gurbaal, and the Mehunims.

8 Et les Ammonites donnaient des présents à Uzziah, et sa renommée se répandit jusqu’au entrée de l’Égypte ; car il s’affermit extrêmement.

 8 And the Ammonites gave gifts to Uzziah: and his name spread abroad even to the entering in of Egypt; for he strengthened himself exceedingly.

9 De plus Uzziah bâtit des tours à Jérusalem, sur la porte du coin, set ur la porte de la vallée, et sur l’encoignure de la muraille, et les fortifia.

 9 Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning of the wall, and fortified them.

10 Il bâtit aussi des tours dans le désert, et il creusa de nombreuses puits, car il avait beaucoup de bétail dans le pays bas et dans la plaine, et des laboureurs et des vignerons sur les montagnes, et au Carmel ; car il aimait l’agriculture.

 10 Also he built towers in the desert, and digged many wells: for he had much cattle, both in the low country, and in the plains: husbandmen also, and vine dressers in the mountains, and in Carmel: for he loved husbandry.

11 De plus Uzziah avait une armée de combattants, qui allaient à la guerre par bandes, selon le compte de leur dénombrement fait par la main de Jeiel, le scribe, et Maaseiah, le commandant, sous la main de Hananiah, l’un des capitaines du roi.

 11 Moreover Uzziah had an host of fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their account by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king’s captains.

12 Le nombre total des chefs des pères, des hommes puissants et vaillants guerriers, était de deux mille six cents.

 12 The whole number of the chief of the fathers of the mighty men of valour were two thousand and six hundred.

13 Et sous leur main était une armée de trois cent sept mille cinq-cents, qui faisaient la guerre avec une ferme puissance, afin d’aider le roi contre l’ennemi.

 13 And under their hand was an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.

14 Et Uzziah leur prépara, pour toute l’armée, écus, et lances, et casques, et hauberts, et arcs et des pierres de fronde.

 14 And Uzziah prepared for them throughout all the host shields, and spears, and helmets, and habergeons, and bows, and slings to cast stones.

15 Et il fit à Jérusalem des engins, inventés par des hommes ingénieux, pour être placées sur les tours et sur les remparts, pour lancer des flèches et de grosses pierres. Et sa renommée se répandit au loin ; car il fut merveilleusement aidé, jusqu’à ce qu’il soit devenu fort.

 15 And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones withal. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong.

16 ¶ Mais lorsqu’il fut puissant, son cœur s’éleva pour sa perte ; car il transgressa contre le SEIGNEUR, son Dieu, et il entra dans le temple du SEIGNEUR pour brûler de l’encens sur l’autel.

 16 ¶ But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.

17 Et Azariah, le prêtre, entra après lui, et avec lui quatre-vingts prêtres du SEIGNEUR, qui étaient hommes vaillants,

 17 And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him fourscore priests of the LORD, that were valiant men:

18 Et ils s’opposèrent au roi Uzziah, et lui dirent : Ce n’est pas à toi, Uzziah, de brûler de l’encens au SEIGNEUR, mais aux prêtres, les fils d’Aaron, qui sont consacrés pour brûler l’encens. Sors du sanctuaire, car tu as transgressé, et cela ne sera pas à ton honneur de la part du SEIGNEUR Dieu.

 18 And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the LORD God.

19 Alors Uzziah fut irrité, et il avait en sa main un encensoir pour brûler de l’encens, et comme il s’irritait contre les prêtres, la lèpre s’éleva sur son front devant les prêtres, dans la maison du SEIGNEUR, près de l’autel de l’encens.

 19 Then Uzziah was wroth, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead before the priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the incense altar.

20 Et Azariah, le principal prêtre ainsi que tous les prêtres le regardèrent, et voici, il était lépreux sur son front, et ils le poussèrent dehors ; oui, lui-même se hâta de sortir, parce que le SEIGNEUR l’avait frappé.

 20 And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the LORD had smitten him.

21 Et le roi Uzziah fut lépreux jusqu’au jour de sa mort, et demeura comme lépreux dans une maison écartée, car il était retranché de la maison du SEIGNEUR ; et Jotham, son fils, avait la charge de la maison du roi, jugeant le peuple du pays.

 21 And Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house, being a leper; for he was cut off from the house of the LORD: and Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.

22 ¶ Or Ésaïe, le fils d’Amoz, le prophète, a écrit le reste des actes d’Uzziah, les premiers et les derniers.

 22 ¶ Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, did Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, write.

23 Et Uzziah s’endormit avec ses pères, et on l’enterra avec ses pères dans le champ de la sépulture qui appartient aux rois ; car on Salomon : Il est lépreux. Et Jotham, son fils, régna à sa place.

 23 So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the burial which belonged to the kings; for they said, He is a leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.
