1 Maintenant donc, écoute Ô Israël, les statuts et les jugements que je vous enseigne, pour les faire, afin que vous viviez, et que vous entriez, et possédiez le pays que le SEIGNEUR Dieu de vos pères, vous donne.

 1 Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you.

2 Vous n’ajouterez rien à la parole que je vous commande, et vous n’en ôterez rien ; afin que vous puissiez garder les commandements du SEIGNEUR, votre Dieu, que je vous commande.

 2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

3 Vos yeux ont vu ce que le SEIGNEUR a fait à cause de Baalpeor ; car tous les hommes qui suivirent Baalpeor, le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu les a détruit du milieu de toi.

 3 Your eyes have seen what the LORD did because of Baalpeor: for all the men that followed Baalpeor, the LORD thy God hath destroyed them from among you.

4 Mais vous qui vous êtes attachés au SEIGNEUR votre Dieu, vous êtes tous vivants aujourd’hui.

 4 But ye that did cleave unto the LORD your God are alive every one of you this day.

5 Regarde, je vous ai enseigné statuts et jugements, comme le SEIGNEUR mon Dieu me l’a commandé, afin que vous fassiez ainsi dans le pays où vous allez entrer pour le posséder.

 5 Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it.

6 Vous les garderez donc et vous les pratiquerez ; car c’est là votre sagesse et votre intelligence aux yeux des nations, qui, entendront tous ces statuts, et diront : Assurément cette grande nation est un peuple sage et intelligent.

 6 Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.

7 Car quelle nation est si grande, qui ait Dieu si près d’elle, comme le SEIGNEUR notre Dieu est dans toutes les choses sur lesquelles nous l’appelons ?

 7 For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for?

8 Et quelle nation est si grande, qui ait des statuts et des jugements si droits, comme toute cette loi que je mets aujourd’hui devant vous ?

 8 And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?

9 Seulement prends garde à toi, et garde soigneusement ton âme, de peur que tu n’oublies les choses que tes yeux ont vues, et de peur qu’ elles ne départent de ton cœur durant tous les jours de ta vie, , mais enseignes-les à tes fils, et aux fils de tes fils.

 9 Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;

10 Plus spécialement le jour où tu t’es tenu devant le SEIGNEUR, ton Dieu, à Horeb, lorsque le SEIGNEUR m’a dit : Assemble-moi le peuple, et je leur ferai entendre mes paroles, afin qu’ils puissent apprendre à me craindre tous les jours qu’ils vivront sur la terre, et afin qu’ils puissent enseigner à leurs enfants.

 10 Specially the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.

11 Et vous vous êtes approchés, et vous vous êtes tenus au pied de la montagne ; et la montagne brûlait par le feu, jusqu’au milieu du ciel, avec assombrissement, nuages, et une profonde obscurité ;

 11 And ye came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire unto the midst of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness.

12 Et le SEIGNEUR vous parla du milieu du feu ; vous avez entendu la voix de ses paroles, mais vous n’avez vu aucune ressemblance ; vous entendiez seulement une voix.

 12 And the LORD spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice.

13 Et il vous déclara son alliance, qu’il vous commanda de pratiquer, savoir les dix commandements ; et il les écrivit sur deux tables de pierre.

 13 And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.

14 ¶ Et le SEIGNEUR me commanda, en ce temps-là, de vous enseigner des statuts et des jugements, afin que vous les fassiez dans le pays dans lequel vous allez passer pour le posséder.

 14 ¶ And the LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess it.

15 Prenez donc bien garde à vous-mêmes, car vous n’avez vu aucune ressemblance au jour où le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu vous parla, à Horeb, du milieu du feu ;

 15 Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the LORD spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire:

16 De peur que vous ne vous corrompiez, et que vous ne vous fassiez quelque image taillée, à la ressemblance d’une quelconque figure, l’apparence d’un mâle ou d’une femelle,

 16 Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female,

17 L’apparence de quelque bête qui soit sur la terre, l’apparence de quelque oiseau ailé qui vole en l’air,

 17 The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the air,

18 L’apparence de quelque être qui  rampe sur le sol, l’apparence de quelque poisson qui soit dans les eaux au-dessous de la terre ;

 18 The likeness of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth:

19 Et de peur que tu ne lèves tes yeux vers le ciel, et que tu ne voies le soleil, et la lune et les étoiles, et même toute la armée du ciel, que tu ne sois poussé à les adorer, et à les servir, lesquels le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu a donnés en partage à toutes les nations sous le ciel entier.

 19 And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.

20 Mais le SEIGNEUR vous a pris, et vous a tirés hors de la fournaise de fer, c’est-à-dire hors d’Égypte, afin de lui être un peuple héritier , comme vous l’êtes aujourd’hui.

 20 But the LORD hath taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of Egypt, to be unto him a people of inheritance, as ye are this day.

21 De plus le SEIGNEUR s’était courroucé contre moi à cause de vous, et il a juré que je ne passerais pas le Jourdain, et que je n’entrerais pas en ce bon pays que le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu te donne en héritage.

 21 Furthermore the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, and sware that I should not go over Jordan, and that I should not go in unto that good land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance:

22 Et de fait, je dois mourir dans ce pays, je ne dois pas passer le Jourdain ; mais vous le passerez, et vous posséderez ce bon pays.

 22 But I must die in this land, I must not go over Jordan: but ye shall go over, and possess that good land.

23 Prenez garde à vous, de peur que vous n’oubliez l’alliance du SEIGNEUR votre Dieu, laquelle il a traitée avec vous, et que vous ne fassiez quelque image taillée, ou la ressemblance d’une chose quelconque, ce que le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu t’a défendue ;

 23 Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, which the LORD thy God hath forbidden thee.

24 Car le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu est un feu consumant, précisément un Dieu jaloux.

 24 For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.

25 ¶ Quand tu auras engendré des enfants, et des enfants de tes enfants, et que vous serez resté longtemps dans le pays, et que vous vous serez corrompus, et que vous aurez fait une image taillée, ou l’apparence d’une chose quelconque, et que vous aurez fait ce qui est mal à la vue du SEIGNEUR ton Dieu, pour le provoquer à la colère,

 25 ¶ When thou shalt beget children, and children’s children, and ye shall have remained long in the land, and shall corrupt yourselves, and make a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, and shall do evil in the sight of the LORD thy God, to provoke him to anger:

26 J’appelle aujourd’hui le ciel et la terre à témoin contre vous, que vous périrez bientôt entièrement dans cette terres où vous allez au delà du Jourdain pour la posséder ; vous n’y prolongerez pas vos jours, mais vous serez entièrement détruits ;

 26 I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto ye go over Jordan to possess it; ye shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed.

27 Et le SEIGNEUR vous dispersera parmi les nations, et vous resterez en petit nombre parmi les païens où le SEIGNEUR vous conduira ;

 27 And the LORD shall scatter you among the nations, and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen, whither the LORD shall lead you.

28 Et vous servirez là des dieux, ouvrage de mains d’homme, de bois et de pierre, qui ne voient, ni n’entendent, ni ne mangent, ni ne sentent.

 28 And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

29 Mais si de là, tu cherches le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu, tu le trouveras, si tu le cherches de tout ton cœur et de toute ton âme.

 29 But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

30 Quand tu seras dans la tribulation et que toutes ces choses te seront arrivées, dans les derniers jours, si tu te tournes vers le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu, et que tu sois obéissant à sa voix.

 30 When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice;

31 (Car le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu est un Dieu miséricordieux), il ne t’abandonnera pas et ne te détruira pas ; ni n’oubliera l’alliance de tes pères, qu’il leur a jurée.

 31 (For the LORD thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.

32 Car informe-toi des jours passés, qui ont été avant toi, depuis le jour où Dieu a créé l’homme sur la terre, et demande depuis un bout du ciel à l’autre, s’il n’y a jamais rien eu de semblable à cette grande chose, ou s’il a été jamais rien entendu de semblable ?

 32 For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and ask from the one side of heaven unto the other, whether there hath been any such thing as this great thing is, or hath been heard like it?

33  Y a-t-il jamais eu un peuple qui ait entendu la voix de Dieu, parlant du milieu du feu, comme tu l’as entendue, et qu’il soit demeuré en vie ?

 33 Did ever people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live?

34 Ou Dieu a-t-il essayé de venir prendre à lui une nation du milieu d’une autre nation, par des épreuves, des signes et des prodiges, et par la guerre, et par une main puissante, et par un bras étendu, et par des grandes terreurs, selon tout ce que le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu a fait pour vous en Égypte, sous vos yeux ?

 34 Or hath God assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

35 Cela t’a été montré, afin que tu puisses connaître que le SEIGNEUR est Dieu, qu’il n’y en a aucun autre que lui seul.

 35 Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is none else beside him.

36 Du ciel, il t’a fait entendre sa voix afin qu’il puisse t’instruire, et sur la terre il t’a montré son grand feu, et tu as entendu ses paroles du milieu du feu.

 36 Out of heaven he made thee to hear his voice, that he might instruct thee: and upon earth he shewed thee his great fire; and thou heardest his words out of the midst of the fire.

37 Et parce qu’il a aimé tes pères, c’est pourquoi il a choisi leur semence après eux, et il t’a fait sortir d’Égypte en sa présence, par sa grande puissance,

 37 And because he loved thy fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them, and brought thee out in his sight with his mighty power out of Egypt;

38 Pour chasser devant toi des nations plus grandes et plus puissantes que toi, pour te faire entrer et te donner leur terre en héritage, comme cela est aujourd’hui.

 38 To drive out nations from before thee greater and mightier than thou art, to bring thee in, to give thee their land for an inheritance, as it is this day.

39 Sache donc aujourd’hui, et réfléchi dans ton cœur, que le SEIGNEUR, lui dans le ciel là-haut et sur la terre en bas, il n’y en a pas d’autre.

 39 Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.

40 Tu garderas donc ses statuts et ses commandements que je te commande aujourd’hui, afin que tout aille bien pour toi et pour tes enfants après toi, et que tu puisses prolonger tes jours sur la terre que le Seigneur ton Dieu te donne à toujours.

 40 Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, for ever.

41 ¶ Puis Moïse sépara trois villes de ce côté du Jourdain, vers le soleil levant,

 41 ¶ Then Moses severed three cities on this side Jordan toward the sunrising;

42 Afin que le meurtrier qui aurait tué son voisin sans le savoir et ne l’aurait pas haï auparavant, puisse s’y enfuir ; et que fuyant dans l’une de ces villes, il puisse avoir la vie sauve,

 42 That the slayer might flee thither, which should kill his neighbour unawares, and hated him not in times past; and that fleeing unto one of these cities he might live:

43 Savoir : Bezer, dans le désert, dans le plat pays, des Rubénites ; et Ramoth, en Gilead (Galaad), des Gadites ; et Golan, en Bashan, des Manassites.

 43 Namely, Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain country, of the Reubenites; and Ramoth in Gilead, of the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, of the Manassites.

44 ¶ Et c’est ici la loi que Moïse mit devant les enfants d’Israël.

 44 ¶ And this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel:

45 Ce sont les témoignages, les statuts et les jugements que Moïse énonça aux enfants d’Israël, après qu’ils soient sortis d’Égypte,

 45 These are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which Moses spake unto the children of Israel, after they came forth out of Egypt,

46 De ce côté-ci du Jourdain, dans la vallée en face de Bethpeor, dans la terre de Sihon, roi des Amorites (Amoréens), qui demeurait à Heshbon (Hesbon) lequel Moïse et les enfants d’Israël frappèrent après qu’ils soient sortis d’Égypte.

 46 On this side Jordan, in the valley over against Bethpeor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon, whom Moses and the children of Israel smote, after they were come forth out of Egypt:

47 Et ils possédèrent son pays, et le pays d’Og, roi de Bashan, deux rois des Amorites (Amoréens), qui étaient de ce côté-ci du Jourdain, vers le soleil levant,

 47 And they possessed his land, and the land of Og king of Bashan, two kings of the Amorites, which were on this side Jordan toward the sunrising;

48 Depuis Aroer, qui est sur le bord de la rivière Arnon, jusqu’au mont Sion, qui est l’Hermon,

 48 From Aroer, which is by the bank of the river Arnon, even unto mount Sion, which is Hermon,

49 Et toute la plaine de ce côté-ci du Jourdain, vers l’Est, jusqu’à la mer de la plaine, sous les pentes du Pisgah.

 49 And all the plain on this side Jordan eastward, even unto the sea of the plain, under the springs of Pisgah.
