1 Puis Samson alla à Gaza, et il vit là une prostituée et alla vers elle.

 1 Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her.

2 Et on rapporta aux Gazites, disant : Samson est venu ici. Et ils l'encerclèrent, et le guettèrent toute la nuit à la porte de la ville, et se tinrent tranquilles toute la nuit, disant : Au matin quand il fera jour, nous le tuerons.

 2 And it was told the Gazites, saying, Samson is come hither. And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him.

3 Et Samson resta couché jusqu'à minuit ; et il se leva à minuit ; et il saisit les battants de la porte de la ville et les deux montants, et les emporta, la barre et le reste, et les mit sur ses épaules, et les porta au sommet d’une colline qui est en face de Hebron.

 3 And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron.

4 ¶ Et il arriva, après cela, qu'il aima une femme dans la vallée de Sorek, dont le nom était Delilah (Delila).

 4 ¶ And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.

5 Et les seigneurs des Philistins montèrent vers elle, et lui dirent : Séduis-le, et vois en quoi consiste sa grande vigueur, et par quels moyens nous pourrions prévaloir contre lui, afin que nous le liions pour l'affliger ; et nous te donnerons chacun onze cents pièces d'argent.

 5 And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him: and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver.

6 ¶ Et Delilah dit à Samson : Dis-moi, je te prie, en quoi consiste ta grande vigueur, et avec quoi tu pourrais être lié pour t'affliger.

 6 ¶ And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee.

7 Et Samson lui dit : Si on me liait avec sept cordes fraîches, qui n’ont jamais été séchées, alors je deviendrais faible, et je serais comme un autre homme.

 7 And Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withs that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.

8 Alors les seigneurs des Philistins lui apportèrent sept cordes fraîches, qui n'étaient pas séchées, et elle l’en lia.

 8 Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green withs which had not been dried, and she bound him with them.

9 Or il y avait des hommes se tenant embusqués, avec elle dans la chambre. Et elle lui dit : Les Philistins sont sur toi, Samson. Et il rompit les cordes comme se rompt une ficelle d’étoupe lorsqu'elle touche le feu. Ainsi sa vigueur ne fut pas connue.

 9 Now there were men lying in wait, abiding with her in the chamber. And she said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he brake the withs, as a thread of tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not known.

10 Et Delilah dit à Samson : Voici, tu t'es moqué de moi et tu m'as dit des mensonges ; dis-moi maintenant, je te prie, avec quoi tu pourrais être lié.

 10 And Delilah said unto Samson, Behold, thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: now tell me, I pray thee, wherewith thou mightest be bound.

11 Et il lui dit : Si on me liait fermement avec des cordes neuves, dont on ne se serait jamais servi, alors je deviendrais faible, et je serais comme un autre homme.

 11 And he said unto her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.

12 Delilah prit donc des cordes neuves, et l’en lia, et lui dit : Les Philistins sont sur toi, Samson. Et il y avait des hommes embusqués, dans la chambre. Et il les rompit de dessus ses bras comme un fil.

 12 Delilah therefore took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And there were liers in wait abiding in the chamber. And he brake them from off his arms like a thread.

13 Et Delilah dit à Samson : Jusqu'ici tu t'es moqué de moi, et tu m'as dit des mensonges ; dis-moi avec quoi tu pourrais être lié. Et il lui dit : Si tu tissais sept mèches de ma tête avec la toile.

 13 And Delilah said unto Samson, Hitherto thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web.

14 Et elle les attacha avec la cheville, et lui dit : Les Philistins sont sur toi, Samson. Et il se réveilla de son sommeil, et arracha la cheville du métier ainsi que la toile.

 14 And she fastened it with the pin, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awaked out of his sleep, and went away with the pin of the beam, and with the web.

15 ¶ Et elle lui dit : Comment peux-tu dire Je t'aime, quand ton cœur n'est pas avec moi ? Tu t'es moqué de moi ces trois fois ; et tu ne m'as pas dit en quoi consiste ta grande vigueur.

 15 ¶ And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth.

16 Et il arriva, comme elle le tracassait tous les jours par ses paroles et le pressait, tellement que son âme fut tourmentée jusqu'à la mort ;

 16 And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death;

17 Alors il lui déclara tout son cœur, et lui dit : Le rasoir n'a jamais passé sur ma tête, car je suis nazaréen de Dieu depuis l’utérus de ma mère. Si j'étais rasé, alors ma vigueur s'en irait de moi, et je deviendrais faible, et je serais comme tout autre homme.

 17 That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother’s womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.

18 Et lorsque Delilah vit qu'il lui avait déclaré tout son cœur, elle envoya appeler les seigneurs des Philistins, disant : Montez cette fois, car il m'a ouvert tout son cœur. Et les seigneurs des Philistins montèrent vers elle, et apportèrent l'argent dans leur main.

 18 And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand.

19 Et elle l'endormit sur ses genoux, et appela un homme, et elle lui fit raser les sept mèches de sa tête ; et elle commença de l'humilier, et sa vigueur se retira de lui.

 19 And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.

20 Et elle dit : Les Philistins sont sur toi, Samson. Et il se réveilla de son sommeil, et dit : Je m'en irai comme les autres fois, et je me secouerai. Or il ne savait pas que le SEIGNEUR s'était retiré de lui.

 20 And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.

21 ¶ Mais les Philistins le saisirent et lui crevèrent les yeux, et le firent descendre à Gaza, et le lièrent avec des chaînes de bronze ; et il tournait la meule dans la maison des prisonniers.

 21 ¶ But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.

22 Néanmoins les cheveux de sa tête commencèrent à repousser, après qu'il avait été rasé.

 22 Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven.

23 Puis les seigneurs des Philistins s'assemblèrent pour offrir un grand sacrifice à Dagon, leur dieu, et pour se réjouir ; car ils disaient : Notre dieu a livré Samson, notre ennemi en notre main.

 23 Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god, and to rejoice: for they said, Our god hath delivered Samson our enemy into our hand.

24 Et quand le peuple le vit, ils louèrent leur dieu, car ils disaient : Notre dieu a livré entre nos mains notre ennemi, et le dévastateur de notre pays, celui qui a tué beaucoup d’entre nous.

 24 And when the people saw him, they praised their god: for they said, Our god hath delivered into our hands our enemy, and the destroyer of our country, which slew many of us.

25 Et il arriva, comme ils avaient le cœur joyeux, qu’ils dirent : Appelez Samson, afin qu'il nous divertisse. Et ils appelèrent Samson de la maison des prisonniers ; et il les divertit ; et ils le placèrent entre les colonnes.

 25 And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars.

26 Et Samson dit au jeune garçon qui le tenait par la main : Laisse-moi de manière que je puisse toucher les colonnes sur lesquelles la maison se tient, afin que je puisse m’appuyer sur elles.

 26 And Samson said unto the lad that held him by the hand, Suffer me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house standeth, that I may lean upon them.

27 Or la maison était remplie d'hommes et de femmes ; et tous les seigneurs des Philistins étaient là, et il y avait sur le toit environ trois mille hommes et femmes qui contemplaient tandis que Samson les divertissait.

 27 Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and there were upon the roof about three thousand men and women, that beheld while Samson made sport.

28 Et Samson cria au SEIGNEUR et dit : Ô Seigneur DIEU, souviens-toi de moi, je te prie, et fortifie-moi, je te prie, seulement cette fois, ô Dieu, afin que d'un seul coup, je puisse me venger des Philistins pour mes deux yeux.

 28 And Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.

29 Et Samson saisit les deux colonnes du milieu, sur lesquelles la maison se tenait et lesquelles la supportaient, l'une avec sa main droite, et l'autre avec sa gauche,

 29 And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his right hand, and of the other with his left.

30 Et Samson dit : Que je meure avec les Philistins. Et il s’arc-bouta de toute sa force, et la maison tomba sur les seigneurs, et sur tout le peuple qui y était. Ainsi les morts qu'il tua par sa mort furent plus nombreux que ceux qu'il avait fait mourir pendant sa vie.

 30 And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life.

31 Ensuite ses frères et toute la maison de son père descendirent, et l'emportèrent ; et le remontèrent, et l'enterrèrent entre Zorah et Eshtaol dans le sépulcre de Manoah, son père. Et il avait jugé Israël vingt ans.

 31 Then his brethren and all the house of his father came down, and took him, and brought him up, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the buryingplace of Manoah his father. And he judged Israel twenty years.
