1 Les paroles de Nehemiah (Néhémie) le fils de Hachaliah. Et il arriva au mois de Chisleu, en la vingtième année, comme j’étais à Shushan le palais,
|
1 The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,
|
2 Que Hanani, l’un de mes frères, lui et certains hommes vinrent de Judah ; et je les interrogeai concernant les Juifs qui s’étaient échappés, lesquels étaient restés de la captivité, et concernant Jérusalem.

2 That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.
|
3 Et ils me dirent : Les restants, qui sont restés de la captivité, là, dans la province, sont dans une grande affliction et dans la honte ; la muraille de Jérusalem est aussi en ruine, et ses portes brûlées par le feu.
|
3 And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.

4 ¶ Or il arriva, lorsque j’entendis ces paroles, que je m’assis, et pleurai, et je menai deuil quelques jours, et je jeûnai, et priai devant le Dieu du ciel ;
|
4 ¶ And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,
|
5 Et je dis : Je te supplie, ô SEIGNEUR Dieu du ciel, le grand et terrible Dieu, qui gardes l’alliance et la miséricorde à ceux qui t’aiment et qui observent tes commandements ;
|
5 And said, I beseech thee, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:
|
6 Que ton oreille soit maintenant attentive, et que tes yeux soient ouverts, pour que tu puisses entendre la prière de ton serviteur, laquelle je prie devant toi maintenant, jour et nuit, pour les enfants d’Israël tes serviteurs, et confessant les péchés des enfants d’Israël, que nous avons commis contre toi ; moi-même et la maison de mon père, nous avons péché.

6 Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father’s house have sinned.
|
7 Nous avons agi avec grande corruption contre toi, et nous n’avons pas gardé les commandements, ni les statuts ni les jugements que tu as commandé à ton serviteur Moïse.
|
7 We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.
|
8 Souviens-toi, je t’en supplie, de la parole que tu commandas à ton serviteur Moïse, disant : Si vous transgressez, je vous disperserai parmi les nations ;

8 Remember, I beseech thee, the word that thou commandedst thy servant Moses, saying, If ye transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations:
|
9 Mais si vous retournez à moi, et si vous gardez mes commandements, et les faites, quand bien même vous auriez été chassés dans la partie la plus reculée du ciel, je les rassemblerai de là, et je les ramènerai au lieu que j’ai choisi pour y établir mon nom.

9 But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there.
|
10 Or, ceux-ci sont tes serviteurs et ton peuple, que tu as racheté par ta grande puissance et par ta forte main.
|
10 Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand.
|
11 Ô Seigneur, je te supplie, que ton oreille soit attentive à la prière de ton serviteur, et à la prière de tes serviteurs qui désirent craindre ton nom ; et je te prie, fais prospérer aujourd’hui ton serviteur, et accorde-lui miséricorde devant cet homme. Car j’étais échanson du roi.

11 O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king’s cupbearer.
