1 Or Korah (Coré), le fils de Izhar, le fils de Kohath (Kéhath), le fils de Levi (Lévi), et Dathan et Abiram, les fils d’Eliab, et On, le fils de Peleth, fils de Reuben (Ruben), prit des hommes ;

 1 Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men:

2 Et ils s’élevèrent contre Moïse, avec certains des enfants d’Israël, deux cent cinquante princes de l’assemblée, célèbres dans la congrégation, des hommes de renom.

 2 And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:

3 Et ils se groupèrent ensemble contre Moïse et contre Aaron, et leur dirent : C’est trop pour vous, puisque tous ceux de toute la congrégation sont saints, et le SEIGNEUR est au milieu d’eux ; pourquoi donc vous élevez-vous au-dessus de la congrégation du SEIGNEUR ?

 3 And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the LORD?

4 Et quand Moïse l’entendit, il tomba sur son visage.

 4 And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face:

5 Et il parla à Korah (Coré) et à toute sa compagnie disant: Demain même, le SEIGNEUR fera connaître qui sont à lui, et qui est saint, et il le fera approcher de lui ; celui-la même qu’il a choisi, il le fera approcher de lui.

 5 And he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even to morrow the LORD will shew who are his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.

6 Faites ceci : Prenez des encensoirs, Korah (Coré), et toute sa compagnie ;

 6 This do; Take you censers, Korah, and all his company;

7 Et demain mettez-y du feu, et mettez-y de l’encens devant le SEIGNEUR ; et il arrivera que l’homme que le SEIGNEUR aura choisi, celui-là sera saint Vous prenez beaucoup trop sur vous, vous fils de Levi (Lévi).

 7 And put fire therein, and put incense in them before the LORD to morrow: and it shall be that the man whom the LORD doth choose, he shall be holy: ye take too much upon you, ye sons of Levi.

8 Et Moïse dit à Korah (Coré) : Écoutez, vous fils de Levi (Lévi).

 8 And Moses said unto Korah, Hear, I pray you, ye sons of Levi:

9 Semble-il peu de chose pour vous, que le Dieu d’Israël vous ait séparés de la congrégation d’Israël, pour vous faire approcher de lui, afin de faire le service du tabernacle du SEIGNEUR, et pour vous tenir devant la congrégation, afin de la servir ?

 9 Seemeth it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them?

10 Et qu’il t’a fait approcher de lui, ainsi que tous tes frères, les fils de Levi (Lévi) avec toi, et que vous recherchiez aussi la prêtrise ?

 10 And he hath brought thee near to him, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee: and seek ye the priesthood also?

11 C’est pourquoi, toi et toute ta compagnie, vous vous êtes groupés ensemble contre le SEIGNEUR ; et qu’est Aaron, que vous murmuriez contre lui ?

 11 For which cause both thou and all thy company are gathered together against the LORD: and what is Aaron, that ye murmur against him?

12 ¶ Et Moïse envoya appeler Dathan et Abiram, les fils d’Eliab ; qui dirent : Nous ne monterons pas.

 12 ¶ And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab: which said, We will not come up:

13 Est-ce peu de chose que tu nous aies fait monter hors d’une terre où ruissellent lait et miel, pour nous faire mourir dans le désert, excepté que tu te fasses absolument un prince sur nous ?

 13 Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that floweth with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except thou make thyself altogether a prince over us?

14 De plus tu ne nous as pas fait venir dans une terre où ruissellent lait et miel, et tu ne nous as pas donné un héritage de champs ni de vignes arracheras-tu les yeux de ces hommes ? Nous ne monterons pas.

 14 Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land that floweth with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up.

15 Et Moïse fut fort irrité, et il dit au SEIGNEUR : Ne regarde pas à leur offrande ; je n’ai pas pris d’eux un seul âne, et n’ai fait de mal à aucun d’eux.

 15 And Moses was very wroth, and said unto the LORD, Respect not thou their offering: I have not taken one ass from them, neither have I hurt one of them.

16 Et Moïse dit à Korah (Coré) : Soyez, toi et toute ta compagnie devant le SEIGNEUR, toi et eux, et Aaron demain.

 16 And Moses said unto Korah, Be thou and all thy company before the LORD, thou, and they, and Aaron, to morrow:

17 Et prenez chacun votre encensoir, mettez-y de l’encens, et amenez devant le SEIGNEUR chacun votre encensoir, deux cent cinquante encensoirs ; et toi, et Aaron, chacun de vous avec son encensoir.

 17 And take every man his censer, and put incense in them, and bring ye before the LORD every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; thou also, and Aaron, each of you his censer.

18 Et ils prirent chacun son encensoir, et y mirent du feu, et y placèrent l’encens dessus et se tinrent à l’entrée du tabernacle de la congrégation, ainsi que Moïse et Aaron.

 18 And they took every man his censer, and put fire in them, and laid incense thereon, and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron.

19 Et Korah (Coré) réunit contre eux toute la congrégation, à l’entrée du tabernacle de la congrégation, et la gloire du SEIGNEUR apparut à toute la congrégation.

 19 And Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the congregation.

20 Et le SEIGNEUR parla à Moïse et à Aaron disant:

 20 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

21 Séparez-vous du milieu de cette congrégation, afin que je les consume en un moment.

 21 Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.

22 Et ils tombèrent sur leur visage, et dirent : Ô Dieu, le Dieu des esprits de toute chair, un seul homme péchera, et tu seras irrité contre toute la congrégation ?

 22 And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation?

23 ¶ Et le SEIGNEUR parla à Moïse disant:

 23 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

24 Parle à la congrégation, en disant: Retirez-vous d’autour du tabernacle de Korah (Coré), de Dathan et d’Abiram.

 24 Speak unto the congregation, saying, Get you up from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.

25 Et Moïse se leva et alla vers Dathan et Abiram ; et les anciens d’Israël le suivirent.

 25 And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.

26 Et il parla à la congrégation disant: Retirez-vous, je vous prie, des tentes de ces méchants hommes, et ne touchez à rien qui leur appartienne, de peur que vous ne soyez consumés pour tous leurs péchés.

 26 And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.

27 Et ils se retirèrent du tabernacle de Korah (Coré), de Dathan et d’Abiram, tout à l’entour. Et Dathan et Abiram sortirent, et se tinrent debout à l’entrée de leurs tentes, avec leurs femmes, leurs fils et leurs petits enfants.

 27 So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children.

28 Et Moïse dit : À ceci vous saurez que le SEIGNEUR m’a envoyé pour faire toutes ces œuvres, car je ne les ai pas faites de moi-même

 28 And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind.

29 Si ces hommes-là meurent de la mort naturelle des hommes, et s’ils sont visités de la visitation de tous les hommes, le SEIGNEUR ne m’a pas envoyé ;

 29 If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the LORD hath not sent me.

30 Mais si le SEIGNEUR fait une chose nouvelle, et que la terre ouvre sa bouche, et les engloutisse avec tout ce qui leur appartient, et qu’ils descendent vivants dans la fosse ; alors vous comprendrez que ces hommes ont provoqué le SEIGNEUR.

 30 But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD.

31 ¶ Et il arriva, qu’aussitôt qu’il eut achevé de prononcer toutes ces paroles, le sol qui était sous eux, se fendit ;

 31 ¶ And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them:

32 Et la terre ouvrit sa bouche, et les engloutit, ainsi que leurs maisons, et tous les hommes qui appartenaient Korah (Coré), et tous leurs biens.

 32 And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.

33 Ils et tout ce qui leur appartenait descendirent vivants dans la fosse, et la terre se referma sur eux ; et ils périrent du milieu de la congrégation.

 33 They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.

34 Et tout Israël, qui était autour d’eux, s’enfuit à leur cri ; car ils disaient : De peur que la terre ne nous engloutisse aussi.

34 And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also.

35 Et il sortit un feu venant du SEIGNEUR, et consuma les deux cent cinquante hommes qui offraient l’encens.

 35 And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.

36 Et le SEIGNEUR parla à Moïse disant:

 36 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

37 Parle à Eleazar, le fils d’Aaron, le prêtre, qu’il ramasse les encensoirs du milieu de l’incendie, et répands-en le feu au loin ; car ils ont été sanctifiés.

 37 Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter thou the fire yonder; for they are hallowed.

38 Les encensoirs de ces pécheurs soient contre leurs âmes, qu’on en fasse de larges plaques pour couvrir l’autel puisqu’ils les ont offerts devant le SEIGNEUR, c’est pourquoi ils ont été sanctifiés ; et ils seront un signe aux enfants d’Israël.

 38 The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the LORD, therefore they are hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel.

39 Et Eleazar, le prêtre, prit les encensoirs en cuivre, avec lesquels ceux qui avaient été brûlés, avaient offerts et l’on en fit de larges plaques pour couvrir l’autel,

 39 And Eleazar the priest took the brasen censers, wherewith they that were burnt had offered; and they were made broad plates for a covering of the altar:

40 Pour être un mémorial aux enfants d’Israël, afin qu’aucun étranger, qui n’est pas de la semence d’Aaron, ne s’approche pour offrir l’encens devant le SEIGNEUR, afin qu’il ne soit pas comme Korah (Coré) et comme sa compagnie, ainsi que le SEIGNEUR le lui avait dit par la main de Moïse.

 40 To be a memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD; that he be not as Korah, and as his company: as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses.

41 ¶ Mais le lendemain, toute la congrégation des enfants d’Israël murmura contre Moïse et contre Aaron disant: Vous avez tué le peuple du SEIGNEUR.

 41 ¶ But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the LORD.

42 Et il arriva, comme la congrégation se réunissait contre Moïse et contre Aaron, qu’ils regardèrent vers le tabernacle de la congrégation, et voici, le nuage le couvrit, et la gloire du SEIGNEUR apparut.

 42 And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared.

43 Et Moïse et Aaron vinrent devant le tabernacle de la congrégation.

 43 And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.

44 ¶ Et le SEIGNEUR parla à Moïse disant:

 44 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

45 Ôtez-vous du milieu de la congrégation, afin que je les consume en un moment. Et ils tombèrent sur leurs visages,

 45 Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.

46 ¶ Et Moïse dit à Aaron : Prends un encensoir, et mets-y du feu de dessus l’autel et mets-y de l’encens, et va promptement vers la congrégation, et fais une expiation pour eux ; car la colère est sortie de devant le SEIGNEUR ; la plaie a commencé.

 46 ¶ And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun.

47 Et Aaron le prit, comme Moïse le lui avait commandé, et il courut au milieu de la congrégation ; et voici, la plaie avait commencé parmi le peuple ; et il mit l’encens et fit une expiation pour le peuple.

 47 And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people.

48 Et il se tint entre les morts et les vivants, et la plaie fut arrêtée.

 48 And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.

49 Or il y en eut quatorze mille sept cents qui moururent de la plaie, outre ceux qui étaient morts dans l’affaire de Korah (Coré).

 49 Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, beside them that died about the matter of Korah.

50 Et Aaron retourna vers Moïse, à l’entrée du tabernacle de la congrégation, et la plaie fut arrêtée.

 50 And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the plague was stayed.
