1 Et Jehoshaphat s’endormit avec ses pères, et il fut enterré avec ses pères dans la cité de David. Et Jehoram, son fils, régna à sa place.

 1 Now Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.

2 Et il avait des frères, les fils de Jehoshaphat, Azariah, et Jehiel, Zachariah, et Azariah, et Michael et Shephatiah ; tous ceux-là étaient fils de Jehoshaphat, roi d’Israël.

 2 And he had brethren the sons of Jehoshaphat, Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah: all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.

3 Et leur père leur avait fait de grands dons d’argent, d’or et de choses précieuses, avec des villes fortifiées en Judah (Juda) ; mais il avait donné le royaume à Jehoram, parce qu’il était le premier-né.

 3 And their father gave them great gifts of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with fenced cities in Judah: but the kingdom gave he to Jehoram; because he was the firstborn.

4 Or quand Jehoram fut élevé sur le royaume de son père, il s’affermit, et tua avec l’épée tous ses frères, et quelques-uns aussi des princes d’Israël.

 4 Now when Jehoram was risen up to the kingdom of his father, he strengthened himself, and slew all his brethren with the sword, and divers also of the princes of Israel.

5 ¶ Jehoram était âgé de trente-deux ans, quand il commença à régner, et il régna huit ans à Jérusalem.

 5 ¶ Jehoram was thirty and two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

6 Il marcha suivant le chemin des rois d’Israël, comme avait fait la maison d’Rahab ; car la fille d’Rahab était sa femme, et il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux du SEIGNEUR.

 6 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, like as did the house of Ahab: for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife: and he wrought that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD.

7 Toutefois, le SEIGNEUR, à cause de l’alliance qu’il avait traitée avec David, ne voulut pas détruire la maison de David, selon qu’il avait dit qu’il lui donnerait une lampe, à lui et à ses fils, pour toujours.

 7 Howbeit the LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons for ever.

8 ¶ De son temps, Edom se révolta de l’obéissance de Judah (Juda), et ils établirent un roi sur eux.

 8 ¶ In his days the Edomites revolted from under the dominion of Judah, and made themselves a king.

9 Puis Jehoram se mit en marche avec ses princes et tous ses chariots avec lui ; et il se leva de nuit, et frappa les Edomites, qui l’entouraient, et tous les capitaines des chariots.

 9 Then Jehoram went forth with his princes, and all his chariots with him: and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him in, and the captains of the chariots.

10 Aussi les Edomites se révoltèrent de dessous la main de Judah (Juda) jusqu’à ce jour. En ce même temps, Libnah aussi se révolta de dessous sa main, parce qu’il avait abandonné le SEIGNEUR Dieu de ses pères.

 10 So the Edomites revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. The same time also did Libnah revolt from under his hand; because he had forsaken the LORD God of his fathers.

11 De plus il fit des hauts lieux dans les montagnes de Judah (Juda), et fit que les habitants de Jérusalem se livrèrent à la fornication, et il y poussa Judah (Juda).

 11 Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, and compelled Judah thereto.

12 ¶ Et il vint à lui un écrit d’Elijah (Élie), le prophète, disant : Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR Dieu de David, ton père : Parce que tu n’as pas marché selon les chemins de Jehoshaphat, ton père, ni selon les chemins d’Asa, roi de Judah (Juda),

 12 ¶ And there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of David thy father, Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah,

13 Mais que tu as marché selon le chemin des rois d’Israël, et que tu as fait Judah (Juda) et les habitants de Jérusalem, se prostituer, selon les prostitutions de la maison d’Rahab, et aussi que tu as tué tes frères de la maison de ton père, lesquels étaient meilleurs que toi,

 13 But hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a whoring, like to the whoredoms of the house of Ahab, and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father’s house, which were better than thyself:

14 Voici le SEIGNEUR frappera d’une grande plaie ton peuple, tes enfants, tes femmes et tous tes biens.

 14 Behold, with a great plague will the LORD smite thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy goods:

15 Et toi, tu auras de grands maux, par une maladie de tes entrailles ; jusqu’à ce que tes entrailles sortent par la conséquence du mal de jour en jour.

 15 And thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.

16 ¶ De plus le SEIGNEUR incita contre Jehoram l’esprit des Philistins et des Arabes, qui étaient près des Éthiopiens.

 16 ¶ Moreover the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, that were near the Ethiopians:

17 Et ils montèrent vers Judah (Juda), et y pénétrèrent, et emportèrent tous les biens qui furent trouvés dans la maison du roi, ainsi que ses fils et ses femmes ; de sorte qu’il ne lui demeura aucun fils, sinon Jehoahaz, le plus jeune de ses fils.

 17 And they came up into Judah, and brake into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king’s house, and his sons also, and his wives; so that there was never a son left him, save Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.

18 ¶ Et après tout cela, le SEIGNEUR le frappa dans ses entrailles, d’une maladie incurable.

 18 ¶ And after all this the LORD smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease.

19 Et il arriva qu'avec le temps, vers la fin de la seconde année,  ses entrailles sortirent par la conséquence de sa maladie ; et il mourut de maux douloureux. Et son peuple ne fit rien brûler pour lui, comme on avait fait brûler pour ses pères.

 19 And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.

20 Il était âgé de trente-deux ans quand il commença à régner, et il régna huit ans à Jérusalem. Il s’en alla sans être regretté. Néanmoins on l’enterra dans la cité de David, mais pas dans les sépulcres des rois.

 20 Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years, and departed without being desired. Howbeit they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings.
