1 Il plut à Darius d’établir sur le royaume cent vingt princes, qui devaient être sur tout le royaume,

 1 It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;

2 Et au-dessus d’eux trois présidents, au nombre desquels Daniel était le premier, afin que les princes leur rendent compte, et que le roi ne souffre aucun dommage.

 2 And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.

3 Et ce Daniel surpassait les présidents et les princes, parce qu’un excellent esprit était en lui ; et le roi pensait à l’établir sur le royaume entier.

 3 Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

4 ¶ Alors les présidents et les princes cherchaient à trouver quelque occasion contre Daniel concernant les affaires du royaume ; mais ils ne purent trouver aucune occasion, ni aucune faute, parce qu’il était fidèle ; et ni erreur ni faute ne se trouvait en lui.

 4 ¶ Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

5 Alors ces hommes dirent : Nous ne trouverons pas d’occasion contre ce Daniel, à moins que nous n’en trouvions contre lui concernant la loi de son Dieu.

 5 Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.

6 Alors ces présidents et princes s’assemblèrent vers le roi, et lui dirent ainsi : Roi Darius, vis pour toujours.

 6 Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever.

7 Tous les présidents du royaume, les gouverneurs, et les princes, les conseillers et les capitaines ont pris conseil pour établir un statut royal et de faire un décret ferme que quiconque fera une requête à quelque dieu ou à quelque homme que ce soit pendant trente jours, excepté à toi, ô roi, sera jeté dans la fosse aux lions.

 7 All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

8 Maintenant, ô roi, établi ce décret, et signe l’écrit, afin qu’il ne soit pas changé, selon la loi des Mèdes et des Perses, qui ne peut être changée.

 8 Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.

9 C’est pourquoi le roi Darius signa l’écrit et le décret.

 9 Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.

10 ¶ Or quand Daniel apprit que l’écrit était signé, il alla dans sa maison, et, les fenêtres de sa chambre étant ouvertes du côté de Jérusalem, il s’agenouillait trois fois par jour, et il priait et remerciait devant son Dieu, comme il faisait auparavant.

 10 ¶ Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.

11 Alors ces hommes s’assemblèrent, et trouvèrent Daniel priant et faisant des supplications devant son Dieu.

 11 Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.

12 Alors ils s’approchèrent et parlèrent devant le roi, concernant le décret du roi N’as-tu pas signé un décret, que tout homme qui ferait requête à quelque dieu ou à quelque homme pendant trente jours, excepté à toi, ô roi, serait jeté dans la fosse aux lions ? Le roi répondit, et dit : La chose est vraie, selon la loi des Mèdes et des Perses, qui ne peut être changée.

 12 Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king’s decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.

13 Alors Ils répondirent et dirent devant le roi : Daniel, qui est un des enfants de la captivité de Judah (Juda), ne tient pas compte de toi, ô roi, ni du décret que tu as écrit ; mais il fait sa requête trois fois par jour.

 13 Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.

14 Alors le roi, lorsqu’il entendit ces paroles, en eut en lui-même un grand déplaisir, et appliqua son cœur à délivrer Daniel, et, jusqu’au coucher du soleil, il œuvra à le délivrer.

 14 Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.

15 Alors ces hommes s’assemblèrent vers le roi et dirent au roi : Sache, ô roi, que c’est la loi des Mèdes et des Perses qu’aucun décret ou statut que le roi a établi ne peut être changé.

 15 Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.

16 Alors le roi commanda qu’on amène Daniel, et qu’on le jette dans antre aux lions. Et le roi parla, et dit à Daniel : Ton Dieu, lequel tu sers continuellement, lui, te délivrera.

 16 Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.

17 Et on apporta une pierre qui fut mise sur l’ouverture de la fosse, et le roi la scella de son cachet et du cachet de ses seigneurs, afin que rien ne soit changé concernant Daniel.

 17 And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.

18 ¶ Alors le roi s’en alla à son palais, et il passa la nuit en jeûnant ; il ne fit pas venir d’instruments de musique, et son sommeil s’éloigna de lui.

 18 ¶ Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him.

19 Alors le roi se leva très tôt le matin, et alla en hâte à la fosse aux lions.

 19 Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions.

20 Et comme il approchait de la fosse, il cria d’une voix triste à Daniel ; et le roi parla et dit à Daniel : Ô Daniel, serviteur du Dieu vivant, est-ce que ton Dieu, que tu sers continuellement, est capable de te délivrer des lions ?

 20 And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?

21 Alors Daniel dit au roi : Ô roi, vis pour toujours.

 21 Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.

22 Mon Dieu a envoyé son ange et a fermé la gueule des lions, si bien qu’ils ne m’ont fait aucun mal, d’autant que devant lui l’innocence a été trouvée en moi ; et devant toi aussi, ô roi, je n’ai commis aucun mal.

 22 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.

23 Alors le roi fut extrêmement heureux pour lui et il commanda qu’on fasse retirer Daniel de la fosse. Ainsi Daniel fut retiré de la fosse, et on ne trouva sur lui aucun mal, parce qu’il avait cru en son Dieu.

 23 Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.

24 ¶ Et le roi ordonna, et on amena ces hommes qui avaient accusé Daniel, et on les jeta dans la fosse aux lions, eux, leurs enfants et leurs femmes ; et avant qu’ils aient atteint le fond de la fosse, les lions se rendirent maîtres d’eux et brisèrent tous leurs os.

 24 ¶ And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.

25 ¶ Alors le roi Darius écrivit à tous les peuples, nations et langues, qui habitent sur toute la terre ; Que la paix vous soit multipliée.

 25 ¶ Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.

26 J’établis un décret, que dans tout territoire de mon royaume on tremble et on ait de la crainte devant le Dieu de Daniel, car il est le Dieu vivant, et il est constant pour toujours, et son royaume celui-là même qui ne sera pas détruit, et sa domination durera même jusqu’à la fin.

 26 I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.

27 Il délivre et secourt, et il accomplit des signes et des prodiges dans le ciel et sur la terre ; et il a délivré Daniel de la puissance des lions.

 27 He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.

28 Ainsi ce Daniel prospéra durant le règne de Darius, et durant le règne de Cyrus, le Perse.

 28 So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
