1 Or au douzième mois, qui est le mois d’Adar, au treizième jour de celui-ci, lorsque l’ordre du roi et son décret étaient proches d’être exécutés, au jour où les ennemis des Juifs espéraient l’emporter sur eux, (ce fut le contraire qui arriva, les Juifs l’emportèrent sur ceux qui les haïssaient).

 1 Now in the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the king’s commandment and his decree drew near to be put in execution, in the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have power over them, (though it was turned to the contrary, that the Jews had rule over them that hated them;)

2 Les Juifs se réunirent ensemble dans leurs villes, dans toutes les provinces du roi Ahasuerus (Assuérus), pour mettre la main sur ceux qui cherchaient leur perte ; et nul ne put subsister devant eux, car la crainte qu’on avait d’eux tomba sur tous les peuples.

 2 The Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, to lay hand on such as sought their hurt: and no man could withstand them; for the fear of them fell upon all people.

3 Et tous les dirigeants des provinces, et les lieutenants, et les députés, et les officiers du roi, aidaient les Juifs parce que la crainte qu’on avait de Mordecai (Mardochée) tomba sur eux.

 3 And all the rulers of the provinces, and the lieutenants, and the deputies, and officers of the king, helped the Jews; because the fear of Mordecai fell upon them.

4 Car Mordecai (Mardochée) était grand dans la maison du roi ; et sa renommée se répandait à travers toutes les provinces, car cet homme, Mordecai (Mardochée) , devenait de plus en plus grand.

 4 For Mordecai was great in the king’s house, and his fame went out throughout all the provinces: for this man Mordecai waxed greater and greater.

5 Ainsi les Juifs frappèrent tous leurs ennemis à coups d’épée, ce fut un massacre et une destruction, et ils firent ce qu’ils voulurent à ceux qui les haïssaient.

 5 Thus the Jews smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and slaughter, and destruction, and did what they would unto those that hated them.

6 Et dans Shushan au palais, les Juifs tuèrent et firent périr cinq cents hommes.

 6 And in Shushan the palace the Jews slew and destroyed five hundred men.

7 Ainsi que Parshandatha, et Dalphon, et Aspatha,

 7 And Parshandatha, and Dalphon, and Aspatha,

8 Et Poratha, et Adalia, et Aridatha,

 8 And Poratha, and Adalia, and Aridatha,

9 Et Parmashta, et Arisai, et Aridai et Vajezatha,

 9 And Parmashta, and Arisai, and Aridai, and Vajezatha,

10 Les dix fils d’Haman, le fils d’Hammedatha, l’ennemi des Juifs ; mais ils ne mirent pas leur main au pillage.

 10 The ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews, slew they; but on the spoil laid they not their hand.

11 En ce jour-là, on rapporta au roi le nombre de ceux qui avaient été tués dans Shushan au palais.

 11 On that day the number of those that were slain in Shushan the palace was brought before the king.

12 ¶ Et le roi dit à la reine Esther : Dans Shushan le palais, les Juifs ont tué et détruit cinq cents hommes, et les dix fils d’Haman ; qu’ont-ils fait dans le reste des provinces du roi ? Quelle est maintenant ta demande ? Et elle te sera accordée et quelle est encore ta requête ?Et ce sera fait.

12 ¶ And the king said unto Esther the queen, The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in Shushan the palace, and the ten sons of Haman; what have they done in the rest of the king’s provinces? now what is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: or what is thy request further? and it shall be done.

13 Alors Esther dit : Si cela plaît au roi, qu’il soit permis demain encore, aux Juifs qui sont à Shushan de faire selon le décret d’aujourd’hui, et qu’on pende les dix fils d’Haman au gibet.

 13 Then said Esther, If it please the king, let it be granted to the Jews which are in Shushan to do to morrow also according unto this day’s decree, and let Haman’s ten sons be hanged upon the gallows.

14 Et le roi ordonna que cela soit ainsi fait ; et le décret fut rendu dans Shushan, et on pendit les dix fils d’Haman.

 14 And the king commanded it so to be done: and the decree was given at Shushan; and they hanged Haman’s ten sons.

15 Et les Juifs qui étaient à Shushan se réunirent ensemble aussi au quatorzième jour du mois d’Adar, et ils tuèrent à Shushan trois cents hommes ; mais ils ne mirent pas leur main sur le butin.

 15 For the Jews that were in Shushan gathered themselves together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and slew three hundred men at Shushan; but on the prey they laid not their hand.

16 Mais les autres Juifs, qui étaient dans les provinces du roi, se réunirent ensemble et défendirent leur vie ; et eurent du repos de leurs ennemis, et tuèrent soixante-quinze mille de ceux qui les haïssaient ; mais ils ne mirent pas leurs mains sur le butin.

 16 But the other Jews that were in the king’s provinces gathered themselves together, and stood for their lives, and had rest from their enemies, and slew of their foes seventy and five thousand, but they laid not their hands on the prey,

17 C’était le treizième jour du mois d’Adar ; et au quatorzième, ils se reposèrent, et en firent un jour de festin et de liesse.

 17 On the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of the same rested they, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.

18 Mais les Juifs qui étaient à Shushan, se réunirent ensemble le treizième jour et le quatorzième jour ; et le quinzième jour ils se reposèrent, et en firent un jour de festin et de liesse.

 18 But the Jews that were at Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth day thereof, and on the fourteenth thereof; and on the fifteenth day of the same they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.

19 C’est pourquoi les Juifs des villages qui demeuraient dans les villes sans murailles, ont fait du quatorzième jour du mois d’Adar un jour de liesse, et de festin, un bon jour, s’envoyant des portions l’un à l’autre.

 19 Therefore the Jews of the villages, that dwelt in the unwalled towns, made the fourteenth day of the month Adar a day of gladness and feasting, and a good day, and of sending portions one to another.

20 ¶ Et Mordecai (Mardochée) écrivit ces choses, et envoya des lettres à tous les Juifs qui étaient dans toutes les provinces du roi Ahasuerus (Assuérus), de près comme de loin,

 20 ¶ And Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters unto all the Jews that were in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, both nigh and far,

21 Afin d’établir ceci parmi eux qu’ils devaient célébrer le quatorzième jour du mois d’Adar ainsi que le quinzième jour, chaque année,

 21 To stablish this among them, that they should keep the fourteenth day of the month Adar, and the fifteenth day of the same, yearly,

22 Parce qu’en ces jours, les Juifs avaient eu du repos de leurs ennemis, et le mois où leur détresse fut changée en joie, et leur deuil en un bon jour, afin qu’ils en fassent des jours de festin et de joie, s’envoyant des portions l’un à l’autre, et des dons aux pauvres.

 22 As the days wherein the Jews rested from their enemies, and the month which was turned unto them from sorrow to joy, and from mourning into a good day: that they should make them days of feasting and joy, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor.

23 Et les Juifs s’engagèrent à faire ce qu’ils avaient commencé, et ce que Mordecai (Mardochée) leur avait écrit.

 23 And the Jews undertook to do as they had begun, and as Mordecai had written unto them;

24 Parce qu’Haman, le fils d’Hammedatha, l’Agagite, l’ennemi de tous les Juifs, avait projeté contre les Juifs de les détruire, et avait jeté le Pur, c’est-à-dire le sort, pour les exterminer et les détruire.

 24 Because Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had devised against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur, that is, the lot, to consume them, and to destroy them;

25 Mais quand Esther vint devant le roi, il commanda par lettres que le méchant dessein qu’il avait projeté contre les Juifs, retombe sur sa propre tête, et qu’on le pende, lui et ses fils, au gibet.

 25 But when Esther came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he devised against the Jews, should return upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

26 Donc ils appelèrent ces jours Purim, du nom de Pur. C’est pourquoi suivant tous les mots de cette lettre, et d’après ce qu’ils avaient vu concernant cette affaire et ce qui leur était arrivé,

 26 Wherefore they called these days Purim after the name of Pur. Therefore for all the words of this letter, and of that which they had seen concerning this matter, and which had come unto them,

27 Les Juifs établirent et acceptèrent pour eux et pour leur semence, et pour tous ceux qui se joindraient à eux, de ne pas manquer de célébrer, chaque année, ces deux jours, selon ce qui était écrit et selon leur temps déterminé.

 27 The Jews ordained, and took upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all such as joined themselves unto them, so as it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to their writing, and according to their appointed time every year;

28 Et qu’on se souviendrait de ces jours et qu’on les célébrerait dans chaque génération, dans chaque famille, dans chaque province et dans chaque ville ; et que ces jours de Purim ne seraient pas abolis parmi les Juifs, et que leur mémoire ne périrait pas parmi leur semence.

 28 And that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor the memorial of them perish from their seed.

29 Alors la reine Esther, la fille d’Abihail, et le Juif Mordecai (Mardochée) , écrivirent avec toute autorité, pour confirmer cette seconde lettre sur les Purim.

 29 Then Esther the queen, the daughter of Abihail, and Mordecai the Jew, wrote with all authority, to confirm this second letter of Purim.

30 Et il envoya des lettres à tous les Juifs, dans les cent vingt-sept provinces du royaume d’Ahasuerus (Assuérus), avec des paroles de paix et de vérité,

 30 And he sent the letters unto all the Jews, to the hundred twenty and seven provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, with words of peace and truth,

31 Pour confirmer ces jours de Purim à leurs périodes déterminées, comme Mordecai (Mardochée), le Juif et la reine Esther les avaient prescrits pour eux, et comme ils les avaient décrétés pour eux-mêmes et pour leur semence, l’institution de jeûnes et de leurs pleurs.

 31 To confirm these days of Purim in their times appointed, according as Mordecai the Jew and Esther the queen had enjoined them, and as they had decreed for themselves and for their seed, the matters of the fastings and their cry.

32 Ainsi le décret d’Esther confirma cette institution des Purim, et cela est écrit dans le livre.

 32 And the decree of Esther confirmed these matters of Purim; and it was written in the book.
