1 Et la parole du SEIGNEUR vint à moi, disant :

 1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

2 Fils de l’homme, propose une énigme et dit une parabole à la maison d'Israël.

 2 Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable unto the house of Israel;

3 Et dis : Ainsi dit le Seigneur DIEU : Un grand aigle, avec de grandes ailes, à longues pennes, plein de plumes, lesquelles étaient de couleurs variées, vint au Liban et prit la plus haute branche du cèdre.

 3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; A great eagle with great wings, longwinged, full of feathers, which had divers colours, came unto Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar:

4 Il coupa le bout de ses jeunes pousses, et le transporta dans un pays de commerce ; il le plaça dans une ville de marchands.

 4 He cropped off the top of his young twigs, and carried it into a land of traffick; he set it in a city of merchants.

5 Il prit aussi de la semence de la terre et la planta dans un champ fertile ; il le plaça près de grosses eaux et le mit comme un saule.

 5 He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a willow tree.

6 Et il grandit, et devint une vigne se propageant, de petite taille, dont les branches étaient tournées vers lui, et ses racines étaient sous lui ; ainsi il devint une vigne, et produisit des branches et poussa des rejetons.

 6 And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and the roots thereof were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs.

7 Il y avait aussi un autre grand aigle, aux grandes ailes, et avec beaucoup de plumes ; et voici, cette vigne tourna ses racines vers lui, et élança ses branches vers lui, afin qu'il puisse l’arroser près des sillons de sa plantation.

 7 There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend her roots toward him, and shot forth her branches toward him, that he might water it by the furrows of her plantation.

8 Elle était plantée dans un bon terrain, près des grosses eaux, afin qu'elle puisse donner des branches, et qu'elle puisse porter du fruit et qu'elle puissepuisse être une attrayabte vigne.

 8 It was planted in a good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.

9 Dis : Ainsi dit le Seigneur DIEU : Prospérera-t-elle ? N'arrachera-t-il pas ses racines, et ne coupera-t-il pas son fruit, pour qu’elle se dessèche ? Toutes ses feuilles printanières se dessécheront, sans même le grand pouvoir d’un peuple nombreux pour l'arracher par ses racines.

 9 Say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Shall it prosper? shall he not pull up the roots thereof, and cut off the fruit thereof, that it wither? it shall wither in all the leaves of her spring, even without great power or many people to pluck it up by the roots thereof.

10 Oui, voici, quoique plantée, prospérera-t-elle ? Ne se desséchera-t-elle pas entièrement lorsque le vent d'Est la touchera? Elle se desséchera dans les sillons où elle a poussé.

 10 Yea, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind toucheth it? it shall wither in the furrows where it grew.

11 ¶ De plus la parole du SEIGNEUR vint à moi, disant :

 11 ¶ Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

12 Dis maintenant à la maison rebelle : Ne savez-vous pas ce que signifient ces choses ? Dis leur : Voici, le roi de Babylone est venu à Jérusalem, et en a pris le roi et les princes, et les a emmenés avec lui à Babylone.

 12 Say now to the rebellious house, Know ye not what these things mean? tell them, Behold, the king of Babylon is come to Jerusalem, and hath taken the king thereof, and the princes thereof, and led them with him to Babylon;

13 Et il a pris un de la semence du roi et a fait une alliance avec lui et lui a fait prendre un serment ; il a aussi pris les puissants du pays,

 13 And hath taken of the king’s seed, and made a covenant with him, and hath taken an oath of him: he hath also taken the mighty of the land:

14 Pour que le royaume puisse être abaissé, pour qu'il ne puisse se relever, mais qu'en gardant son alliance, il puisse subsister.

 14 That the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping of his covenant it might stand.

15 Mais il s'est rebellé contre lui, en envoyant ses ambassadeurs en Égypte, afin qu'onpuisse lui donner des chevaux et un peuple nombreux . Prospérera-t-il ? Échappera-t-il, celui qui fait de telles choses ? Ou enfeindra -t-il l'alliance, et serait-il délivré ?

 15 But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape that doeth such things? or shall he break the covenant, and be delivered?

16 Comme je suis vivant, dit le Seigneur DIEU, assurément dans le lieu où le roi demeure qui l'a fait roi, dont il a méprisé le serment et dont il a enfreint l'alliance il mourra, dis-je avec luide lui, au milieu de Babylone.

 16 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely in the place where the king dwelleth that made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he brake, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die.

17 Pharaon non plus , avec sa puissante armée et une grande compagnie, ne fera rien pour lui dans la guerre, en élevant des monticules et construisant des forts, pour retrancher beaucoup de personnes.

 17 Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company make for him in the war, by casting up mounts, and building forts, to cut off many persons:

18 Puisqu'il a méprisé le serment, en enfreignant l'alliance : quand voici, il a donné sa main, et a fait toutes ces choses ; il n'échappera pas.

 18 Seeing he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, when, lo, he had given his hand, and hath done all these things, he shall not escape.

19 C'est pourquoi, ainsi dit le Seigneur DIEU : Comme je suis vivant, assurément mon serment qu'il a méprisé, et mon alliance qu'il a enfreinte , cela même, je lui rendrai sur sa propre tête.

 19 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely mine oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, even it will I recompense upon his own head.

20 Et j'étendrai mon filet sur lui, et il sera pris dans mon piège, et je l'emmènerai à Babylone où je plaiderai contre lui pour son délit qu'il a commis contre moi.

 20 And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will plead with him there for his trespass that he hath trespassed against me.

21 Et tous ses fugitifs avec toutes ses troupes tomberont par l'épée ; et ceux qui resteront seront dispersés à tous les vents ; et vous saurez que moi, le SEIGNEUR, je l'ai dit.

 21 And all his fugitives with all his bands shall fall by the sword, and they that remain shall be scattered toward all winds: and ye shall know that I the LORD have spoken it.

22 ¶ Ainsi dit le Seigneur DIEU : Je prendrai aussi la plus haute branche du cèdre élevé, et je la placerai ; je couperai du bout de ses jeunes pousses un tendre rameau, et je le planterai sur une montagne haute et éminente.

 22 ¶ Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also take of the highest branch of the high cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the top of his young twigs a tender one, and will plant it upon an high mountain and eminent:

23 Sur la montagne de la hauteur d'Israël, je le planterai ; et il portera des branches et produira du fruit, et sera un cèdre attrayant ; et sous lui demeureront des oiseaux de tout plumage ; à l'ombre de ses branches ils demeureront.

 23 In the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing; in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell.

24 Et tous les arbres des champs sauront que, moi le SEIGNEUR, j'ai abaissé l'arbrehaut , et élevé le petit arbre, j'ai fait dessécher l'arbre vert et fait fleurir l'arbre sec : moi le SEIGNEUR, l'ai dit, et l'ai fait.

 24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have done it.
