1 Alors les prophètes, Haggai (Aggée), le prophète, et Zechariah (Zacharie), le fils d’Iddo, prophétisèrent aux Juifs qui étaient en Judah et à Jérusalem, au nom du Dieu d’Israël, à savoir à eux.

 1 Then the prophets, Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied unto the Jews that were in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, even unto them.

2 Alors Zerubbabel, le fils de Shealtiel, et Jeshua, le fils de Jozadak (Jotsadak), se levèrent et commencèrent à bâtir la maison de Dieu, qui est à Jérusalem ; et avec eux, étaient les prophètes de Dieu, qui les aidaient.

 2 Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: and with them were the prophets of God helping them.

3 ¶ En ce temps-là, Tatnai (Tatténaï), gouverneur de ce côté du fleuve, Shetharboznai (Shéthar‑Boznaï) et leurs compagnons, vinrent vers eux, et leur dirent ainsi : Qui vous a donné ordre de bâtir cette maison, et de relever cette muraille ?

 3 ¶ At the same time came to them Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shetharboznai, and their companions, and said thus unto them, Who hath commanded you to build this house, and to make up this wall?

4 Alors nous leur avons parlé en cette manière : Quels sont les noms des hommes qui bâtissent cet édifice ?

 4 Then said we unto them after this manner, What are the names of the men that make this building?

5 Mais l’œil de leur Dieu était sur les anciens des Juifs, si bien qu’on ne pu pas les faire cesser jusqu’à ce que l’affaire parvienne à Darius ; alors ils répondirent par lettre concernant cette affaire.

 5 But the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, that they could not cause them to cease, till the matter came to Darius: and then they returned answer by letter concerning this matter.

6 ¶ La copie de la lettre que Tatnai (Tatténaï), gouverneur de ce côté du fleuve, Shetharboznai, (Shéthar‑Boznaï) et ses compagnons les Apharsekites, qui étaient de ce côté du fleuve, envoyèrent à Darius, le roi ;

 6 ¶ The copy of the letter that Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shetharboznai, and his companions the Apharsachites, which were on this side the river, sent unto Darius the king:

7 Ils lui envoyèrent une lettre dans laquelle était ainsi écrit : Au roi Darius, toute paix.

 7 They sent a letter unto him, wherein was written thus; Unto Darius the king, all peace.

8 Qu’il soit connu du roi que nous sommes allés dans la province de Judah, à la maison du grand Dieu, laquelle on bâtit de grosses pierres, et le bois est posé sur les murs, et cet ouvrage se bâtit rapidement, et s’avance entre leurs mains.

 8 Be it known unto the king, that we went into the province of Judea, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls, and this work goeth fast on, and prospereth in their hands.

9 Alors nous avons interrogé les anciens, et nous leur avons dit ainsi : Qui vous a donné ordre de bâtir cette maison et de relever ces murs ?

 9 Then asked we those elders, and said unto them thus, Who commanded you to build this house, and to make up these walls?

10 Et même nous leur avons demandés leurs noms, pour te les faire connaître, afin d’écrire les noms des hommes qui sont à leur tête.

 10 We asked their names also, to certify thee, that we might write the names of the men that were the chief of them.

11 Et ils nous ont répondu ainsi, disant : Nous sommes les serviteurs du Dieu du ciel et de la terre, et nous bâtissons la maison qui avait été bâtie il y a bien des années, laquelle, un grand roi d’Israël avait bâtie et établie.

 11 And thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and build the house that was builded these many years ago, which a great king of Israel builded and set up.

12 Mais, après que nos pères eurent provoqué à la colère le Dieu du ciel, il les livra en la main de Nebuchadnezzar (Nébucadnetsar), le roi de Babylone, le Chaldéen, qui détruisit cette maison et transporta le peuple à Babylone.

 12 But after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven unto wrath, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into Babylon.

13 Mais en la première année de Cyrus, le roi de Babylone, ce même roi Cyrus fit un édit de bâtir cette maison de Dieu.

 13 But in the first year of Cyrus the king of Babylon the same king Cyrus made a decree to build this house of God.

14 Et aussi les ustensiles d’or et d’argent de la maison de Dieu, que Nebuchadnezzar (Nébucadnetsar) avait sortis du temple qui était à Jérusalem et les avait apportés au temple de Babylone, ceux-la, le roi Cyrus les sortit du temple de Babylone et ils furent délivrés à quelqu’un dont le nom était Sheshbazzar (Sheshbatsar), qu’il avait fait gouverneur,

 14 And the vessels also of gold and silver of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the temple that was in Jerusalem, and brought them into the temple of Babylon, those did Cyrus the king take out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered unto one, whose name was Sheshbazzar, whom he had made governor;

15 Et il lui dit : Prends ces ustensiles et va les porter dans le temple qui est à Jérusalem, et que la maison de Dieu soit bâtie sur son emplacement.

 15 And said unto him, Take these vessels, go, carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in his place.

16 Alors ce même Sheshbatsar (Sheshbatsar) vint et posa les fondements de la maison de Dieu, qui est à Jérusalem ; et depuis ce temps-là jusqu’à présent, elle est en train d’être bâtie, et elle n’est pas encore achevée.

 16 Then came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid the foundation of the house of God which is in Jerusalem: and since that time even until now hath it been in building, and yet it is not finished.

17 Maintenant donc, s’il semble bon au roi, qu’on cherche dans la maison des trésors du roi, laquelle est à Babylone, s’il est vrai qu’un décret ait été fait par le roi Cyrus de bâtir cette maison de Dieu à Jérusalem, et que le roi nous envoie sa volonté concernant cette affaire.

 17 Now therefore, if it seem good to the king, let there be search made in the king’s treasure house, which is there at Babylon, whether it be so, that a decree was made of Cyrus the king to build this house of God at Jerusalem, and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.
