1 Or après ces choses, sous le règne d’Artaxerxes, roi de Perse, Ezra (Esdras), le fils de Seraiah, fils d’Azariah, fils de Hilkiah,

 1 Now after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra the son of Seraiah, the son of Azariah, the son of Hilkiah,

2 Fils de Shallum, fils de Zadok (Tsadok), fils d’Ahitub,

 2 The son of Shallum, the son of Zadok, the son of Ahitub,

3 Fils d’Amariah, fils d’Azariah, fils de Meraioth,

 3 The son of Amariah, the son of Azariah, the son of Meraioth,

4 Fils de Zerahiah, fils d’Uzzi, fils de Bukki,

 4 The son of Zerahiah, the son of Uzzi, the son of Bukki,

5 Fils d’Abishua, fils de Phineas, fils d’Eleazar, fils d’Aaron, le prêtre principal,

 5 The son of Abishua, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the chief priest:

6 Cet Ezra (Esdras) monta de Babylone, et il était un scribe versé dans la loi de Moïse, laquelle le SEIGNEUR Dieu d’Israël, avait donnée ; et le roi lui accorda toute sa demande, selon que la main du SEIGNEUR son Dieu était sur lui.

 6 This Ezra went up from Babylon; and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which the LORD God of Israel had given: and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the LORD his God upon him.

7 Et quelques-uns des enfants d’Israël, et des prêtres, et des Lévites, et des chanteurs, et des portiers, et des Nethinims montèrent à Jérusalem, la septième année du roi Artaxerxes.

 7 And there went up some of the children of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king.

8 Et il arriva à Jérusalem au cinquième mois qui était la septième année du roi.

 8 And he came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was in the seventh year of the king.

9 Car, au premier jour du premier mois il commença de remonter depuis Babylone, et au premier jour du cinquième mois, il arriva à Jérusalem, selon que la bonne main de son Dieu était sur lui.

 9 For upon the first day of the first month began he to go up from Babylon, and on the first day of the fifth month came he to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him.

10 Car Ezra (Esdras) avait préparé son cœur à rechercher la loi du SEIGNEUR, et à l’appliquer et à enseigner en Israël les statuts et les jugements.

 10 For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.

11 ¶ Or c’est ici la copie de la lettre que le roi Artaxerxes donna à Ezra (Esdras) le prêtre, le scribe, c’est-à-dire un scribe des paroles des commandements du SEIGNEUR et de ses statuts pour Israël :

 11 ¶ Now this is the copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave unto Ezra the priest, the scribe, even a scribe of the words of the commandments of the LORD, and of his statutes to Israel.

12 Artaxerxès, roi des rois, à Ezra (Esdras) le prêtre, un scribe de la loi du Dieu du ciel, parfaite paix et de telle date.

 12 Artaxerxes, king of kings, unto Ezra the priest, a scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect peace, and at such a time.

13 Je fais un décret, que tous ceux du peuple d’Israël, et de ses prêtres, et des Lévites, qui dans mon royaume, veulent de leur plein gré monter à Jérusalem, aillent avec toi ;

 13 I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and of his priests and Levites, in my realm, which are minded of their own freewill to go up to Jerusalem, go with thee.

14 D’autant que tu es envoyé de la part du roi et de ses sept conseillers, pour t’enquérir au sujet de Judah et de Jérusalem, selon la loi de ton Dieu, laquelle est en ta main,

 14 Forasmuch as thou art sent of the king, and of his seven counsellors, to enquire concerning Judah and Jerusalem, according to the law of thy God which is in thine hand;

15 Et pour porter l’argent et l’or que le roi et ses conseillers ont de leur plein gré offert au Dieu d’Israël, dont l’habitation est à Jérusalem,

 15 And to carry the silver and gold, which the king and his counsellors have freely offered unto the God of Israel, whose habitation is in Jerusalem,

16 Et tout l’argent et l’or que tu trouveras dans toute la province de Babylone, avec l’offrande volontaire du peuple et des prêtres, offrant volontairement pour la maison de leur Dieu qui est à Jérusalem.

 16 And all the silver and gold that thou canst find in all the province of Babylon, with the freewill offering of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly for the house of their God which is in Jerusalem:

17 Afin que tu puisses acheter promptement avec cet argent, des taureaux, des béliers, des agneaux, ainsi que leurs offrandes de farine et leurs offrandes liquides, et tu les offriras sur l’autel de la maison de votre Dieu, qui est à Jérusalem.

 17 That thou mayest buy speedily with this money bullocks, rams, lambs, with their meat offerings and their drink offerings, and offer them upon the altar of the house of your God which is in Jerusalem.

18 Et ce qu’il semblera bon à toi et à tes frères de faire avec le reste de l’argent et de l’or, que vous le fassiez selon la volonté de votre Dieu.

 18 And whatsoever shall seem good to thee, and to thy brethren, to do with the rest of the silver and the gold, that do after the will of your God.

19 Et les ustensiles qui te sont donnés pour le service de la maison de ton Dieu, remets-les devant le Dieu de Jérusalem.

 19 The vessels also that are given thee for the service of the house of thy God, those deliver thou before the God of Jerusalem.

20 Et quoi que ce soit d’autre qui sera nécessaire pour la maison de ton Dieu, que tu auras l’occasion de donner, tu le donneras de la maison des trésors du roi.

 20 And whatsoever more shall be needful for the house of thy God, which thou shalt have occasion to bestow, bestow it out of the king’s treasure house.

21 Et moi, savoir Artaxerxes, roi, fait un édit à tous les trésoriers qui sont de l’autre côté du fleuve, que tout ce qu’Ezra (Esdras), le prêtre, le scribe de la loi du Dieu du ciel, vous demandera, soit fait promptement,

 21 And I, even I Artaxerxes the king, do make a decree to all the treasurers which are beyond the river, that whatsoever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it be done speedily,

22 Jusqu’à cent talents d’argent, et jusqu’à cent mesures de blé, et jusqu’à cent baths de vin, et jusqu’à cent baths d’huile, et du sel sans en définir la mesure..

 22 Unto an hundred talents of silver, and to an hundred measures of wheat, and to an hundred baths of wine, and to an hundred baths of oil, and salt without prescribing how much.

23 Que tout ce qui est commandé par le Dieu du ciel soit fait exactement pour la maison du Dieu du ciel ; car pourquoi y aurait-il colère contre le royaume, le roi et ses fils ?

 23 Whatsoever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be diligently done for the house of the God of heaven: for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons?

24 De plus, nous vous notifions qu’il ne sera pas permis d’imposer ni péage ni tribut, ni douane, sur aucun des prêtres, des Lévites, des chanteurs, des portiers, des Nethinims (Nethiniens) et des serviteurs de cette maison de Dieu.

 24 Also we certify you, that touching any of the priests and Levites, singers, porters, Nethinims, or ministers of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose toll, tribute, or custom, upon them.

25 Et toi, Ezra (Esdras), selon la sagesse de ton Dieu, laquelle tu as en ta main, établis des magistrats et des juges, qui puissent juger tout le peuple qui est de l’autre côté du fleuve, tous ceux qui connaissent les lois de ton Dieu ; et apprenez-les à ceux qui ne les connaissent pas.

 25 And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, that is in thine hand, set magistrates and judges, which may judge all the people that are beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye them that know them not.

26 Et quiconque n’observera pas la loi de ton Dieu et la loi du roi, qu’un jugement soit promptement exécuté sur lui, soit par la mort, soit par l’exil, soit par la confiscation de biens, soit par l’emprisonnement.

 26 And whosoever will not do the law of thy God, and the law of the king, let judgment be executed speedily upon him, whether it be unto death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment.

27 ¶ Béni soit le SEIGNEUR Dieu de nos pères, qui a mis une telle chose dans le cœur du roi, pour embellir la maison du SEIGNEUR, qui est à Jérusalem ;

 27 ¶ Blessed be the LORD God of our fathers, which hath put such a thing as this in the king’s heart, to beautify the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem:

28 Et il a étendu vers moi sa miséricorde devant le roi, et ses conseillers, et devant tous les puissants princes du roi. Et j’étais fortifié selon que la main du SEIGNEUR, mon Dieu était sur moi, et je rassemblai d’Israël les chefs, pour monter avec moi.

 28 And hath extended mercy unto me before the king, and his counsellors, and before all the king’s mighty princes. And I was strengthened as the hand of the LORD my God was upon me, and I gathered together out of Israel chief men to go up with me.
