1 Ce sont ici les chefs des pères et la généalogie de ceux qui montèrent avec moi, de Babylone, pendant le règne du roi Artaxerxes.

 1 These are now the chief of their fathers, and this is the genealogy of them that went up with me from Babylon, in the reign of Artaxerxes the king.

2 Des fils de Phineas (Phinées), Gershom (Guershom) ; des fils d’Ithamar, Daniel ; des fils de David, Hattush ;

 2 Of the sons of Phinehas; Gershom: of the sons of Ithamar; Daniel: of the sons of David; Hattush.

3 Des fils de Shechaniah, des fils de Pharosh, Zechariah (Zacharie), et avec lui furent comptés par généalogie des mâles, cent cinquante.

 3 Of the sons of Shechaniah, of the sons of Pharosh; Zechariah: and with him were reckoned by genealogy of the males an hundred and fifty.

4 Des fils de Pahathmoab, Elioenai, le fils de Zerahiah, et avec lui deux cents hommes ;

 4 Of the sons of Pahathmoab; Elihoenai the son of Zerahiah, and with him two hundred males.

5 Des fils de Shechaniah, le fils de Jahaziel, et avec lui, trois cents hommes ;

 5 Of the sons of Shechaniah; the son of Jahaziel, and with him three hundred males.

6 Et aussi des fils d’Adin, Ebed, le fils de Jonathan, et avec lui, cinquante hommes ;

 6 Of the sons also of Adin; Ebed the son of Jonathan, and with him fifty males.

7 Et des fils d’Elam, Jeshaiah, le fils d’Athalia (Athalie), et avec lui, soixante-dix hommes ;

 7 And of the sons of Elam; Jeshaiah the son of Athaliah, and with him seventy males.

8 Et des fils de Shephatiah, Zebadiah, le fils de Michael, et avec lui, quatre-vingts hommes ;

 8 And of the sons of Shephatiah; Zebadiah the son of Michael, and with him fourscore males.

9 Et des fils de Joab, Obadiah (Abdias), le fils de Jehiel, et avec lui, deux cent dix-huit hommes ;

 9 Of the sons of Joab; Obadiah the son of Jehiel, and with him two hundred and eighteen males.

10 Et des fils de Shelomith, le fils de Josiphiah, et avec lui, soixante hommes ;

 10 And of the sons of Shelomith; the son of Josiphiah, and with him an hundred and threescore males.

11 Et des fils de Bebai, Zechariah (Zacharie), le fils de Bebai, et avec lui, vingt-huit hommes ;

 11 And of the sons of Bebai; Zechariah the son of Bebai, and with him twenty and eight males.

12 Et des fils d’Azgad, Johanan, le fils de Hakkatan, et avec lui, cent dix hommes ;

 12 And of the sons of Azgad; Johanan the son of Hakkatan, and with him an hundred and ten males.

13 Et des fils d’Adonikam, les derniers, dont les noms sont, Eliphelet, Jeiel et Shemaiah, et avec eux soixante hommes ;

 13 And of the last sons of Adonikam, whose names are these, Eliphelet, Jeiel, and Shemaiah, and with them threescore males.

14 Et des fils de Bigvai, Uthai et Zabbud, et avec eux, soixante-dix hommes.

 14 Of the sons also of Bigvai; Uthai, and Zabbud, and with them seventy males.

15 ¶ Et je les réunis ensemble vers la rivière qui coule vers Ahava, et nous y restèrent dans des tentes trois jours ; et je considérai le peuple et les prêtres, et je n’y trouvai personne des fils de Levi (Lévi).

 15 ¶ And I gathered them together to the river that runneth to Ahava; and there abode we in tents three days: and I viewed the people, and the priests, and found there none of the sons of Levi.

16 Alors j’envoyai chercher Eliezer (Éliézer), Ariel, Shemaiah, et Elnathan, et Jarib, et Elnathan, et Nathan, et Zechariah (Zacharie) et Meshullam, les chefs, et Joiarib et Elnathan, hommes intelligents.

 16 Then sent I for Eliezer, for Ariel, for Shemaiah, and for Elnathan, and for Jarib, and for Elnathan, and for Nathan, and for Zechariah, and for Meshullam, chief men; also for Joiarib, and for Elnathan, men of understanding.

17 Et je les envoyai avec ce commandement pour Iddo, le chef du lieu Casiphia, et je leur dit ce qu’ils devaient dire à Iddo et à ses frères, les Nethinims (Néthiniens), dans le lieu de Casiphia, afin qu’ils nous amènent des ministres pour la maison de notre Dieu.

 17 And I sent them with commandment unto Iddo the chief at the place Casiphia, and I told them what they should say unto Iddo, and to his brethren the Nethinims, at the place Casiphia, that they should bring unto us ministers for the house of our God.

18 Et par la bonne main de notre Dieu sur nous, ils nous amenèrent un homme intelligent, d’entre les fils de Mahli, fils de Levi (Lévi), fils d’Israël, et Sherebiah, avec ses fils, et ses frères, dix-huit ;

 18 And by the good hand of our God upon us they brought us a man of understanding, of the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel; and Sherebiah, with his sons and his brethren, eighteen;

19 Et Hashabiah, et avec lui, Jeshaiah, d’entre les fils de Merari, ses frères, et leurs fils, vingt ;

 19 And Hashabiah, and with him Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, his brethren and their sons, twenty;

20 Aussi des Nethinims (Néthiniens), que David et les princes avaient désignés pour le service des Lévites, deux cent vingt Nethinims (Néthiniens), tous nommés par leurs noms.

 20 Also of the Nethinims, whom David and the princes had appointed for the service of the Levites, two hundred and twenty Nethinims: all of them were expressed by name.

21 ¶ Puis je publiai un jeûne là, près de la rivière Ahava, afin que nous nous humilions devant notre Dieu, recherchant de lui le droit chemin pour nous, et pour nos petits enfants, et pour tous nos biens.

 21 ¶ Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.

22 Car j’avais honte de demander au roi des soldats et des cavaliers pour nous aider en chemin contre l’ennemi ; parce que nous avions parlé au roi, disant : La main de notre Dieu est pour le bien sur tous ceux qui le cherchent ; mais sa puissance et sa colère sont contre tous ceux qui l’abandonnent.

 22 For I was ashamed to require of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way: because we had spoken unto the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all them for good that seek him; but his power and his wrath is against all them that forsake him.

23 Ainsi nous avons jeûné, et avons imploré notre Dieu pour cela, et il nous exauça.

 23 So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he was intreated of us.

24 ¶ Alors je séparai douze des chefs des prêtres : Sherebiah, Hashabiah, et avec eux dix de leurs frères.

 24 ¶ Then I separated twelve of the chief of the priests, Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brethren with them,

25 Et je leur pesai l’argent, l’or et les ustensiles, c’est-à-dire, l’offrande de la maison de notre Dieu, que le roi et ses conseillers, e tses seigneurs et tout Israël ici présent avaient offerte.

 25 And weighed unto them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offering of the house of our God, which the king, and his counsellors, and his lords, and all Israel there present, had offered:

26 Je leur pesai en leur main six cent cinquante talents d’argent, et des ustensiles d’argent cent talents, et des ustensiles d’or cent talents,

 26 I even weighed unto their hand six hundred and fifty talents of silver, and silver vessels an hundred talents, and of gold an hundred talents;

27 Ainsi que vingt bassins d’or de mille dariques, et deux ustensiles de cuivre fin, précieux comme l’or.

 27 Also twenty basons of gold, of a thousand drams; and two vessels of fine copper, precious as gold.

28 Et je leur dis : Vous êtes saints au SEIGNEUR, les ustensiles sont saints aussi ; et l’argent et l’or sont une offrande volontaire au SEIGNEUR Dieu de vos pères.

 28 And I said unto them, Ye are holy unto the LORD; the vessels are holy also; and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering unto the LORD God of your fathers.

29 Veillez, et gardez-les jusqu’à ce que vous les pesiez en la présence des chefs des prêtres et des Lévites, et devant les chefs des pères d’Israël, à Jérusalem, dans les chambres de la maison du SEIGNEUR.

 29 Watch ye, and keep them, until ye weigh them before the chief of the priests and the Levites, and chief of the fathers of Israel, at Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of the LORD.

30 Ainsi les prêtres et les Lévites prirent le poids d’argent, et d’or et les ustensiles, pour les porter à Jérusalem à la maison de notre Dieu.

 30 So took the priests and the Levites the weight of the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem unto the house of our God.

31 ¶ Puis nous sommes partis de la rivière Ahava., le douzième jour du premier mois, pour aller à Jérusalem ; et la main de notre Dieu était sur nous, et il nous délivra de la main de l’ennemi et de toute embûche sur le chemin.

 31 ¶ Then we departed from the river of Ahava on the twelfth day of the first month, to go unto Jerusalem: and the hand of our God was upon us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy, and of such as lay in wait by the way.

32 Et nous sommes arrivés à Jérusalem ; et y restâmes trois jours,

 32 And we came to Jerusalem, and abode there three days.

33 ¶ Au quatrième jour, furent pesés l’argent et l’or et les ustensiles dans la maison de notre Dieu par la main de Meremoth, le fils d’Uriah (Urie), le prêtre ; avec lui était Eleazar, le fils de Phineas ; et avec eux était Jozabad, le fils de Jeshua, et Noadiah le fils de Binnui, Lévites,

 33 ¶ Now on the fourth day was the silver and the gold and the vessels weighed in the house of our God by the hand of Meremoth the son of Uriah the priest; and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas; and with them was Jozabad the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah the son of Binnui, Levites;

34 Selon le nombre et le poids de chaque chose ; et en même temps, tout le poids en fut écrit.

 34 By number and by weight of every one: and all the weight was written at that time.

35 Les enfants, de ceux qui avaient été transportés, et qui étaient revenus de la captivité, offrirent des offrandes consumées au Dieu d’Israël, douze taureaux pour tout Israël, quatre-vingt-seize béliers, soixante-dix-sept agneaux, et douze boucs en offrande pour le péché ; le tout en une offrande consumée au SEIGNEUR.

 35 Also the children of those that had been carried away, which were come out of the captivity, offered burnt offerings unto the God of Israel, twelve bullocks for all Israel, ninety and six rams, seventy and seven lambs, twelve he goats for a sin offering: all this was a burnt offering unto the LORD.

36 ¶ Et ils remirent les édits du roi aux lieutenants du roi, et aux gouverneurs de ce côté du fleuve et ils secondèrent le peuple et la maison de Dieu.

 36 ¶ And they delivered the king’s commissions unto the king’s lieutenants, and to the governors on this side the river: and they furthered the people, and the house of God.
