1 Et Abraham partit de là vers le Sud du pays, et demeura entre Kadesh et Shur, et il séjourna à Gerar.

 1 And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.

2 Et Abraham dit de Sarah sa femme: Elle est ma sœur: et Abimelech, roi de Gerar, envoya chercher,et prit Sarah.

 2 And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.

3 Mais Dieu vint à Abimelech dans un rêve de nuit, et lui dit: Voici, tu n’es qu’un homme mort, pour la femme que tu as prise ; car elle a un mari.

 3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man’s wife.

4 Mais Abimelech ne s’était pas approché d’elle: et il dit: Seigneur, tueras-tu aussi une nation droite ?

 4 But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation?

5 Ne m’a-t-il pas dit: Elle est ma sœur ? Et elle, elle-même a dit: Il est mon frère: dans l’intégrité de mon cœur, et dans l’innocence de mes mains, j’ai fait cela.

 5 Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.

6 Et Dieu lui dit dans un rêve: Oui, je sais que tu as fait cela dans l’intégrité de ton cœur ; car je t’ai aussi retenu de pécher contre moi: Par conséquent je n’ai pas permis de la toucher.

 6 And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.

7 Maintenant donc rends à l’homme sa femme ; car il est un prophète ; et il priera pour toi, et tu vivras : et si tu ne la rends pas, sache que tu dois sûrement, mourir, toi et tous ceux qui sont à toi.

 7 Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.

8 Par conséquent Abimelech se leva tôt le matin, et appela tous ses serviteurs, et raconta toutes ces choses à leurs oreilles: et les hommes furent fort effrayés.

 8 Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid.

9 Puis Abimelech appela Abraham et lui dit, Que nous as-tu fait ? Et en quoi t’ai-je offensé, que tu aies amené sur moi et sur mon royaume un grand péché ? Tu as fait envers moi des actions qui n’auraient pas dû être faites.

 9 Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.

10 Et Abimelech dit à Abraham, Qu’as-tu vu que tu aies fait cette chose ?

 10 And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?

11 Et Abraham dit, Parce que j’ai pensé, Sûrement la crainte de Dieu n’est pas dans ce lieu ; et ils me tueront à cause de ma femme.

 11 And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife’s sake.

12 Et cependant, en effet elle est ma sœur ; elle est la fille de mon père ; mais non la fille de ma mère ; et elle est devenue ma femme.

 12 And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.

13 Et il arriva lorsque Dieu me fit errer de la maison de mon père, que je lui ai dit, Voici ta gentillesse que tu dois me montrer ; partout où nous devons aller, dis de moi, Il est mon frère.

 13 And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father’s house, that I said unto her, This is thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.

14 Et Abimelech prit des moutons et des bœufs, des serviteurs et des servantes, et les donna à Abraham, et il lui rendit Sarah sa femme.

 14 And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.

15 Et Abimelech dit, Voici, mon pays est devant toi: demeure où il te plaira.

 15 And Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee.

16 Et à Sarah il dit, Voici, j’ai donné à ton frère mille pièces d’argent: voici, il est pour toi une couverture des yeux, à tous ceux qui sont avec toi, et pour tous les autres: ainsi elle fut réprouvée.

 16 And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver: behold, he is to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with thee, and with all other: thus she was reproved.

17 ¶ Ainsi Abraham pria Dieu: et Dieu guérit Abimelech, et sa femme et ses servantes ; et elles enfantèrent des enfants.

 17 ¶ So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children.

18 Car le SEIGNEUR avait entièrement fermé tous les utérus de la maison d’Abimelech, à cause de Sarah, femme d’Abraham.

 18 For the LORD had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham’s wife.
