1 Et Isaac appela Jacob, et le bénit et lui commanda, et lui dit: Tu ne prendras pas une femme d’entre les filles de Canaan.

 1 And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.

2 Lève-toi, va à Padan-aram, à la maison de Bethuel, le père de ta mère ; et prends toi une femme de là-bas d’entre les filles de Laban, frère de ta mère.

 2 Arise, go to Padanaram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother’s father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother’s brother.

3 Et que le Dieu Tout-Puissant te bénisse, et te rende fécond, et te multiplie, afin que tu puisses devenir une multitude de peuples ;

 3 And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people;

4 Et te donne la bénédiction d’Abraham, à toi et à ta semence avec toi ; afin que tu puisses hériter la terre dans laquelle tu es un étranger, laquelle Dieu donna à Abraham.

 4 And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham.

5 Et Isaac envoya Jacob: et il alla à Padan-aram, vers Laban, fils de Bethuel, le Syrien, le frère de Rebekah, mère de Jacob et d’Esaü .

 5 And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padanaram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.

6 ¶ Lorsque Esaü vit qu’Isaac avait béni Jacob, et l’avait envoyé à Padan-aram pour prendre une femme de là ; et qu’en le bénissant il lui avait commandé, disant, Tu ne prendras pas une femme d’entre les filles de Canaan ;

 6 ¶ When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padanaram, to take him a wife from thence; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;

7 Et que Jacob obéit à son père et à sa mère, et était allé à Padan-aram ;

 7 And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padanaram;

8 Esaü voyant que les filles de Canaan ne plaisaient pas à Isaac, son père ;

 8 And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father;

9 Alors Esaü alla vers Ismaël, et prit en plus des femmes qu’il avait, Mahalath, la fille d’Ismaël, fils d’Abraham, la sœur de Nebajoth pour être sa femme.

 9 Then went Esau unto Ishmael, and took unto the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife.

10 ¶ Et Jacob partit de Beer-Sheba, et alla à Haran.

 10 ¶ And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.

11 Et il tomba sur un certain endroit et y resta toute la nuit, parce que le soleil était couché ; et il prit des pierres de cet endroit, et les mit pour son oreiller, et se coucha à cet endroit.

 11 And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.

12 Et il rêva ; et voici une échelle était dressée sur la terre, et son sommet atteignait le ciel: et voici les anges de Dieu montaient et descendaient sur elle.

 12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

13 Et, voici, le SEIGNEUR se tenait au-dessus d’elle, et il dit: Je suis le SEIGNEUR Dieu d’Abraham ton père, et le Dieu d’Isaac: la terre sur laquelle tu es couché, à toi je la donnerai, et à ta semence ;

 13 And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;

14 Et ta semence doit être comme la poussière de la terre, et tu dois te disperser de tous côtés, à l’ouest, et à l’est, au nord et au sud: et en toi et en ta semence toutes les familles de la terre doivent être bénies.

 14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

15 Et, voici, je suis avec toi, et je te garderai dans tous les lieux où tu iras, et je te ramènerai dans cette terre ; car je ne te laisserai pas, jusqu’à ce que j’aie fait ce dont je t’ai parlé.

 15 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.

16 ¶ Et Jacob se réveilla de son sommeil, et il dit: Assurément le SEIGNEUR est en ce lieu ; et je ne le savais pas.

 16 ¶ And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.

17 Et il fut effrayé, et dit: Combien ce lieu est effroyable ! Ce ne peut être que la maison de Dieu, et c’est ici le portail du ciel.

 17 And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

18 Et Jacob se leva tôt le matin, et prit la pierre qu’il avait prise pour ses oreillers, et la plaça pour faire une colonne, et répandit de l’huile sur son dessus.

 18 And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.

19 Et il appela le nom de ce lieu Beth-el : mais le nom de cette ville était préalablement Luz.

 19 And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.

20 Et Jacob voua un vœu, disant, Si Dieu est avec moi, et me garde dans ce chemin où je vais, et me donne du pain pour manger, et un habillement à me mettre,

 20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,

21 Pour que je revienne à la maison de mon père en paix ; alors le SEIGNEUR sera mon Dieu :

 21 So that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:

22 Et cette pierre, laquelle j’ai dressée pour un pilier doit être la maison de Dieu : et de tout ce que tu dois me donner je t’en donnerai sûrement la dîme.

 22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.
