1 Et il arriva, lorsque Isaac était âgé et que ses yeux s’étaient affaiblis, si bien qu’il ne pouvait plus voir, qu’il appela Esaü , son fils aîné, et lui dit: Mon fils, et il lui dit: Voici, je suis ici.

 1 And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, here am I.

2 Et il dit: Voici maintenant, je suis vieux, et je ne connais pas le jour de ma mort.

 2 And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death:

3 Maintenant donc, prends, je te prie, tes armes, ton carquois et ton arc, et sors dans les champs, et prends-moi de la venaison ;

 3 Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison;

4 Et prépare-moi un mets savoureux, comme je les aime, et apporte-le-moi, que je puisse manger ; afin que mon âme puisse te bénir avant que je meure.

 4 And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die.

5 Et Rebekah entendit lorsque Isaac parla à Esaü, son fils. Et Esaü alla dans les champs pour chasser de la venaison et l’apporter.

 5 And Rebekah heard when Isaac spake to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it.

6 ¶ Et Rebekah parla à Jacob, son fils, disant, Voici, j’ai entendu ton père parler à Esaü , ton frère, disant,

 6 ¶ And Rebekah spake unto Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard thy father speak unto Esau thy brother, saying,

7 Apporte-moi de la venaison, et prépare-moi un mets savoureux, pour que je puisse manger, et te bénir devant le SEIGNEUR avant ma mort.

 7 Bring me venison, and make me savoury meat, that I may eat, and bless thee before the LORD before my death.

8 Maintenant donc, mon fils, obéis à ma voix selon ce que je te commande.

 8 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command thee.

9 Va maintenant vers le troupeau et cherches-moi deux bons chevreaux ; et j’en ferai un mets savoureux pour ton père, comme il les aime:

 9 Go now to the flock, and fetch me from thence two good kids of the goats; and I will make them savoury meat for thy father, such as he loveth:

10 Et tu le porteras à ton père, pour qu’il puisse manger, et qu’il puisse te bénir avant sa mort.

 10 And thou shalt bring it to thy father, that he may eat, and that he may bless thee before his death.

11 Et Jacob dit à Rebekah sa mère: Voici, Esaü , mon frère, est un homme velu, et je suis un homme à la peau lisse.

 11 And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man:

12 Mon père si par aventure venait à me toucher, et je serai à ses yeux comme un trompeur ; et je ferai venir sur moi une malédiction, et non pas une bénédiction.

 12 My father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing.

13 Et sa mère lui dit: Que ta malédiction soit sur moi, mon fils: obéis seulement à ma voix et va me les chercher.

 13 And his mother said unto him, Upon me be thy curse, my son: only obey my voice, and go fetch me them.

14 Et il alla, et les chercher et les apporta à sa mère: et sa mère fit un mets savoureux, comme son père aimait.

 14 And he went, and fetched, and brought them to his mother: and his mother made savoury meat, such as his father loved.

15 Et Rebekah prit les beaux habillements de son fils aîné Esau, lesquels étaient avec elle dans la maison, et en revêtit Jacob, son fils le plus jeune :

 15 And Rebekah took goodly raiment of her eldest son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son:

16 Et elle mit les peaux de chevreaux sur ses mains et sur la partie lisse de son cou:

 16 And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck:

17 Et elle mit le mets savoureux et le pain qu’elle avait préparés, dans la main de son fils Jacob.

 17 And she gave the savoury meat and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.

18 ¶ Et il vint à son père, et dit: Mon père: et il dit: Je suis ici ; qui es-tu, mon fils ?

 18 ¶ And he came unto his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I; who art thou, my son?

19 Et Jacob dit à son père: Je suis Esaü, ton premier né ; j’ai fait selon ce que tu m’as demandé: Lève-toi, je te prie, assieds-toi et mange de ma venaison, afin que ton âme puisse me bénir.

 19 And Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau thy firstborn; I have done according as thou badest me: arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me.

20 Et Isaac dit à son fils: Comment se fait-il que tu l’as trouvée si rapidement mon fils ? Et il dit: Parce que le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu me l’a apportée.

 20 And Isaac said unto his son, How is it that thou hast found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the LORD thy God brought it to me.

21 Et Isaac dit à Jacob: Approche, je te prie, que je puisse te toucher, mon fils, pour savoir si tu es bien mon fils Esaü , ou non.

 21 And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be my very son Esau or not.

22 Et Jacob s’approcha d’Isaac, son père ; et il le toucha, et dit: La voix est la voix de Jacob ; mais les mains sont les mains d’Esaü .

 22 And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob’s voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.

23 Et il ne le reconnut pas, parce que ses mains étaient velues, comme les mains d’Esaü son frère: ainsi il le bénit.

 23 And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau’s hands: so he blessed him.

24 Et il dit: Es-tu vraiment mon fils Esau? Et il répondit, Je le suis.

 24 And he said, Art thou my very son Esau? And he said, I am.

25 Et il dit: Approche-la-moi, et je mangerai de la venaison de mon fils, pour que mon âme puisse te bénir. Et il l’apporta près de lui et il mangea: et il lui apporta du vin et il but.

 25 And he said, Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son’s venison, that my soul may bless thee. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat: and he brought him wine, and he drank.

26 Et son père Isaac lui dit: Approche maintenant, et embrasse-moi, mon fils.

 26 And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son.

27 Et il s’approcha, et l’embrassa: et il sentit l’odeur de son habillement, et il le bénit, et dit: Regarde, l’odeur de mon fils est comme l’odeur d’un champ que le SEIGNEUR a béni :

 27 And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed:

28 Par conséquent que Dieu te donne de la rosée du ciel et de la graisse de la terre, et abondance de maïs et de vin :

 28 Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:

29 Que des peuples te servent, et que des nations se courbent devant toi: sois seigneur sur tes frères, et que les fils de ta mère se courbent devant toi: maudit soit quiconque te maudit, et béni soit quiconque te bénit.

 29 Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother’s sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.

30 ¶ Et il arriva, qu’aussitôt qu’Isaac eut achevé de bénir Jacob, et que Jacob était à peine sorti de la présence d’Isaac, son père, qu’Esau, son frère, revint de sa chasse.

 30 ¶ And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

31 Et lui aussi lui aussi avait préparé un mets savoureux, et l’apporta à son père, et il dit à son père: Que mon père se lève, et mange de la venaison de son fils, afin que ton âme puisse me bénir.

 31 And he also had made savoury meat, and brought it unto his father, and said unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son’s venison, that thy soul may bless me.

32 Et Isaac, son père lui dit: Qui es-tu ? Et il dit: Je suis ton fils, ton premier-né, Esaü .

 32 And Isaac his father said unto him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy son, thy firstborn Esau.

33 Et Isaac trembla extrêmement, et dit, Qui ? Où est celui qui a pris de la venaison, et me l’a apportée, et j’ai mangé de tout, avant que tu ne viennes, et je l’ai béni ? Oui, et il doit être béni.

 33 And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that hath taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? yea, and he shall be blessed.

34 Et lorsque Esaü entendit les paroles de son père, il s’écria d’un cri grand et extrêmement amer, et dit à son père: Bénis-moi, à savoir moi aussi, ô mon père.

 34 And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father.

35 Et il dit: Ton frère est venu subrepticement, et a pris ta bénédiction.

 35 And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and hath taken away thy blessing.

36 Et il dit: N’est-il pas appelé justement Jacob ? Car il m’a supplanté ces deux fois: Il a pris mon droit d’aînesse ; et, voici, maintenant il a pris ma bénédiction. Et il dit: N’as-tu pas réservé une bénédiction pour moi ?

 36 And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?

37 Et Isaac répondit et dit à Esau: Voici, je l’ai établi ton seigneur, et tous ses frères je lui ai donné pour serviteurs ; et je l’ai pourvu de maïs et de vin: et que ferais-je maintenant pour toi, mon fils ?

 37 And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?

38 Et Esaü dit à son père, N’as-tu qu’une seule bénédiction, mon père ? Bénis-moi, à savoir moi aussi, ô mon père. Et Esaü éleva sa voix, et pleura.

 38 And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.

39 Et Isaac son père répondit et lui dit, Voici, ta demeure doit être la graisse de la terre, et de la rosée du ciel d’en haut ;

 39 And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above;

40 Et par ton épée tu dois vivre, et dois servir ton frère ; et il arrivera lorsque tu auras la domination, que tu briseras son joug de dessus ton cou.

 40 And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.

41 ¶ Et Esaü prit Jacob en haine à cause de la bénédiction avec laquelle son père l’avait béni: et Esaü dit en son cœur, Les jours du deuil de mon père sont à portée de la main ; alors je tuerai mon frère Jacob.

 41 ¶ And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.

42 Et ces paroles d’Esaü son fils aîné furent rapportées à Rebekah : et elle envoya appeler Jacob, son plus jeune fils, et lui dit, Voici, ton frère Esaü , se réconforte à ton sujet, ayant l’intention de te tuer.

 42 And these words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah: and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, thy brother Esau, as touching thee, doth comfort himself, purposing to kill thee.

43 Maintenant donc, mon fils, obéis à ma voix ; et lève-toi, enfuis-toi chez Laban, mon frère à Haran ;

 43 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; and arise, flee thou to Laban my brother to Haran;

44 Et reste avec lui quelques jours, jusqu’à ce que la fureur de ton frère se détourne,

 44 And tarry with him a few days, until thy brother’s fury turn away;

45 Jusqu’à ce que la colère de ton frère se détourne de toi, et qu’il oublie ce que tu lui as fait: alors je t’enverrai chercher de là-bas: pourquoi serais-je privée de vous deux en un seul jour ?

 45 Until thy brother’s anger turn away from thee, and he forget that which thou hast done to him: then I will send, and fetch thee from thence: why should I be deprived also of you both in one day?

46 Et Rebekah dit à Isaac, Je suis lassée de la vie à cause des filles de Heth: Si Jacob prend une femme d’entre les filles de Heth, telles que celles-ci, lesquelles sont les filles du pays, à quoi bon ma vie me sert-elle ?

 46 And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth: if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?
