1 Et Jacob leva ses yeux et regarda, et, voici, Esaü venait, et avec lui quatre cents hommes. Et il partagea les enfants entre Leah, et Rachel, et les deux suivantes.

 1 And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau came, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah, and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids.

2 Et il mit les suivantes et leurs enfants en tête, et Leah et ses enfants après, et Rachel et Joseph les derniers.

 2 And he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindermost.

3 Et il passa devant eux, et se courba jusqu’au sol sept fois, jusqu’à ce qu’il arrive près de son frère.

 3 And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.

4 Et Esaü courut à sa rencontre, et le prit dans ses bras, et tomba sur son cou, et l’embrassa: et ils pleurèrent.

 4 And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.

5 Et il leva ses yeux, et vit les femmes et les enfants ; et dit: Qui sont ceux-ci avec toi ? Et il dit: Les enfants que Dieu a gracieusement donnés à ton serviteur.

 5 And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath graciously given thy servant.

6 Puis les suivantes s’approchèrent, elles et leurs enfants, et elles se courbèrent.

 6 Then the handmaidens came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves.

7 Et Leah aussi avec ses enfants s’approchèrent, et se courbèrent ; et après s’approchèrent Joseph et Rachel, et se courbèrent.

 7 And Leah also with her children came near, and bowed themselves: and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed themselves.

8 Et Esaü dit: Que signifie tout ce troupeau que j’ai rencontré ? Et il dit: C’est pour trouver grâce à la vue de mon seigneur.

 8 And he said, What meanest thou by all this drove which I met? And he said, These are to find grace in the sight of my lord.

9 Et Esaü dit: J’ai assez, mon frère ; garde ce qui est à toi.

 9 And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep that thou hast unto thyself.

10 Et Jacob dit, Non, je te prie, si maintenant j’ai trouvé grâce à ta vue, alors reçois mon présent de ma main : car pour cette raison j’ai vu ta face comme si j’avais vu la face de Dieu, et que tu as été aimable envers moi.

 10 And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me.

11 Prends, je te prie, ma bénédiction qui t’est amenée ; parce que Dieu a agi gracieusement envers moi, et parce que j’ai assez. Et il le pressa et il la prit.

 11 Take, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it.

12 Et il dit, Continuons notre voyage, et allons, et j’irai devant toi.

 12 And he said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before thee.

13 Et il lui dit, Mon seigneur sait que les enfants sont jeunes, et les troupeaux de moutons et de bœufs avec leurs petits sont avec moi: et si on les presse un seul jour, tout le troupeau mourra.

 13 And he said unto him, My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds with young are with me: and if men should overdrive them one day, all the flock will die.

14 Que mon seigneur, je te prie, passe devant son serviteur: et je conduirai doucement, selon le bétail qui va devant moi et ce que les enfants peuvent endurer, jusqu’à ce que j’arrive chez mon seigneur à Seir.

 14 Let my lord, I pray thee, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on softly, according as the cattle that goeth before me and the children be able to endure, until I come unto my lord unto Seir.

15 Et Esaü dit, Ne m’empêche pas maintenant de te laisser quelques-unes des personnes qui sont avec moi. Et il dit, Pourquoi faire ? Que je trouve grâce à la vue de mon seigneur.

 15 And Esau said, Let me now leave with thee some of the folk that are with me. And he said, What needeth it? let me find grace in the sight of my lord.

16 ¶ Ainsi Esaü reprit ce jour-là son chemin vers Seir.

 16 ¶ So Esau returned that day on his way unto Seir.

17 Et Jacob alla à Succoth et bâtit une maison pour lui, et fit des cabanes pour son bétail: par conséquent le nom du lieu est appelé Succoth.

 17 And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him an house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.

18 ¶ Et Jacob arriva à Shalem, une ville de Shechem, laquelle est dans la terre de Canaan, lorsqu’il arriva de Padan-aram ; et il dressa sa tente devant la ville.

 18 ¶ And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padanaram; and pitched his tent before the city.

19 Et il acheta une parcelle d’un champ où il avait installé sa tente, de la main des enfants d’Hamor, père de Shechem, pour cent pièces d’argent.

 19 And he bought a parcel of a field, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for an hundred pieces of money.

20 Et il érigea là un autel, et l’appela El-elohe-Israel.

 20 And he erected there an altar, and called it EleloheIsrael.
