1 Et Dieu dit à Jacob, Lève-toi, monte à Bethel, et demeures-y: et fais-y un autel à Dieu, qui t’apparut lorsque tu fuyais de devant la face d’Esau, ton frère.

 1 And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.

2 Alors Jacob dit à sa maisonnée, et à tous ceux qui étaient avec lui: ôtez les dieux étrangers qui sont au milieu de vous, et soyez nets, et changez vos vêtements:

 2 Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:

3 Et levons-nous, et montons à Bethel ; et j’y ferai un autel au Dieu qui me répondit au jour de ma détresse, et était avec moi dans le chemin que je pris.

 3 And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.

4 Et ils donnèrent à Jacob tous les dieux étrangers qui étaient en leurs mains, et toutes leurs boucles d’oreilles qui étaient à leurs oreilles ; et Jacob les cacha sous le chêne qui était près de Shechem.

 4 And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.

5 Et ils voyagèrent: et la terreur de Dieu fut sur les villes qui étaient autour d’eux ; et ils ne poursuivirent pas les fils de Jacob.

 5 And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.

6 ¶ Ainsi Jacob arriva à Luz, laquelle est dans la terre de Canaan, c’est-à-dire Beth-el, lui et tout le peuple qui était avec lui.

 6 ¶ So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.

7 Et il y bâtit un autel, et il appela cet endroit El-beth-el: parce que là Dieu lui était apparu, lorsqu’il fuyait de devant la face de son frère.

 7 And he built there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.

8 Mais Deborah la nourrice de Rebekah mourut, et elle fut enterrée au-dessous de Bethel, sous un chêne: et son nom fut appelé Allon-bachuth.

 8 But Deborah Rebekah’s nurse died, and she was buried beneath Bethel under an oak: and the name of it was called Allonbachuth.

9 ¶ Et Dieu apparut à Jacob de nouveau, lorsqu’il revenait de Padan-aram ; et le bénit.

 9 ¶ And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padanaram, and blessed him.

10 Et Dieu lui dit, Ton nom est Jacob : ton nom ne doit plus être appelé Jacob, mais Israël doit être ton nom: et il appela son nom Israël.

 10 And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel.

11 Et Dieu lui dit, Je suis Dieu Tout-Puissant: sois fécond et multiplie ; une nation, et une compagnie de nations doivent venir de toi , et des rois doivent sortir de tes flancs ;

 11 And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;

12 Et la terre que j’ai donnée à Abraham et à Isaac, à toi je la donnerai et à ta semence après toi je donnerai la terre.

 12 And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.

13 Et Dieu monta d’auprès de lui du lieu où il avait parlé avec lui.

 13 And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him.

14 Et Jacob dressa une colonne au lieu où il avait parlé avec lui, à savoir, une colonne de pierre: et il répandit dessus une offrande liquide, et il répandit de l’huile dessus.

 14 And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon.

15 Et Jacob appela le nom du lieu où Dieu avait parlé avec lui, Beth-el.

 15 And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Bethel.

16 ¶ Et ils voyagèrent de Beth-el, et il y avait encore un peu de chemin pour arriver à Ephrath: et Rachel entra en travai, et elle eut beaucoup de peine à accoucher.

 16 ¶ And they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour.

17 Et il arriva, lorsqu’elle eut de grandes douleurs, la sage-femme lui dit: N’aie pas peur ;tu auras ce fils aussi.

 17 And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.

18 Et il arriva, comme son âme s’en allait, (car elle mourut), qu’elle appela son nom Ben-oni ; mais son père l’appela Benjamin.

 18 And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.

19 Et Rachel mourut, et fut enterrée sur le chemin d’Ephrath, qui est Bethlehem.

 19 And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.

20 Et Jacob dressa une colonne sur sa tombe: c’est la colonne de la tombe de Rachel, jusqu’à ce jour.

 20 And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel’s grave unto this day.

21 ¶ Et Israël voyagea, et installa sa tente au-delà de la tour d’Eder.

 21 ¶ And Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar.

22 Et il arriva, lorsqu’Israël demeurait dans cette terre, que Ruben alla et coucha avec Bilhah la concubine de son père: et Israël l’apprit. Or les fils de Jacob étaient au nombre de douze.

 22 And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:

23 Les fils de Leah ; Ruben, premier-né de Jacob, et Simeon, et Lévi, et Judah , et Issachar et Zebulun: .

 23 The sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun:

24 Les fils de Rachel ; Joseph et Benjamin:

 24 The sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin:

25 Et les fils de Bilhah, suivante de Rachel ; Dan et Naphtali.

 25 And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s handmaid; Dan, and Naphtali:

26 Et les fils de Zilpah, suivante de Leah ; Gad et Asher: ce sont là les fils de Jacob, qui lui furent nés à Padan-aram.

 26 And the sons of Zilpah, Leah’s handmaid; Gad, and Asher: these are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Padanaram.

27 ¶ Et Jacob arriva vers Isaac son père, à Mamre, à la ville d’Arbah, laquelle est Hebron, où Abraham et Isaac séjournèrent.

 27 ¶ And Jacob came unto Isaac his father unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.

28 Et les jours d’Isaac furent de cent quatre-vingts ans.

 28 And the days of Isaac were an hundred and fourscore years.

29 Et Isaac rendit l’esprit et mourut, et fut recueilli vers son peuple, étant âgé et rassasié de jours: et ses fils Esaü et Jacob, l’enterrèrent.

 29 And Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
