1 Et il arriva après ces choses, que quelqu’un dit à Joseph: Voici, ton père est malade: et il prit avec lui ses deux fils, Manasseh et Ephraim.

 1 And it came to pass after these things, that one told Joseph, Behold, thy father is sick: and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.

2 Et on le rapporta à Jacob, et on dit: Voici ton fils Joseph vient vers toi ; et Israël rassembla ses forces, et s’assit sur son lit.

 2 And one told Jacob, and said, Behold, thy son Joseph cometh unto thee: and Israel strengthened himself, and sat upon the bed.

3 Et Jacob dit à Joseph: Le Dieu Tout-Puissant m’apparut à Luz, dans la terre de Canaan, et me bénit,

 3 And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,

4 Et m’a dit: Voici, je veux te rendre fécond et te multiplier, et je veux faire de toi une multitude de peuples ; et je donnerai cette terre à ta semence après toi pour une possession sempiternelle.

 4 And said unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a multitude of people; and will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession.

5 ¶ Et maintenant tes deux fils Ephraim et Manasseh, lesquels te sont nés dans le pays d’Égypte avant que je vienne vers toi en Égypte, sont à moi ; comme Ruben et Simeon doivent être à moi.

 5 ¶ And now thy two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, which were born unto thee in the land of Egypt before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine.

6 Et ta descendance, laquelle tu auras engendrée après eux, doit être à toi, et doit être appelée suivant le nom de leurs frères dans leur patrimoine .

 6 And thy issue, which thou begettest after them, shall be thine, and shall be called after the name of their brethren in their inheritance.

7 Et quant à moi, lorsque je venais de Paddan, Rachel mourut près de moi dans la terre de Canaan en chemin, lorsqu’il y avait encore un peu de chemin pour arriver à Ephrath: et je l’enterrai là sur le chemin d’Ephrath  ; la même est Bethléem.

 7 And as for me, when I came from Padan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when yet there was but a little way to come unto Ephrath: and I buried her there in the way of Ephrath; the same is Bethlehem.

8 Et Israël regarda les fils de Joseph, et dit: Qui sont ceux-ci ?

 8 And Israel beheld Joseph’s sons, and said, Who are these?

9 Et Joseph dit à son père: Ce sont mes fils, que Dieu m’a donnés en ce lieu. Et il dit: Amène-les-moi, je te prie, et je les bénirai.

 9 And Joseph said unto his father, They are my sons, whom God hath given me in this place. And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless them.

10 Or les yeux d’Israël s’étaient affaiblis par l’âge ; si bien qu’il ne pouvait plus voir. Il les fit approcher de lui, et il les embrassa et les prit dans ses bras.

 10 Now the eyes of Israel were dim for age, so that he could not see. And he brought them near unto him; and he kissed them, and embraced them.

11 Et Israël dit à Joseph: Je n’avais pas pensé voir ton visage: et, voici, Dieu m’a montré aussi ta semence.

 11 And Israel said unto Joseph, I had not thought to see thy face: and, lo, God hath shewed me also thy seed.

12 Et Joseph les retira d’entre ses genoux, et il se courba son visage contre terre.

 12 And Joseph brought them out from between his knees, and he bowed himself with his face to the earth.

13 Et Joseph les prit tous deux, Ephraim à sa main droite vers la main gauche d’Israël, et Manasseh à sa main gauche vers la main droite d’Israël, et les fit approcher de lui.

 13 And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel’s left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel’s right hand, and brought them near unto him.

14 Et Israël étendit sa main droite, et la mit sur la tête d’Ephraim, qui était le plus jeune, et sa main gauche sur la tête de Manasseh, guidant ses mains délibérément ; car Manasseh était le premier-né.

 14 And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim’s head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh’s head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh was the firstborn.

15 ¶ Et il bénit Joseph, et dit: Dieu, devant lequel mes pères, Abraham et Isaac marchèrent, le Dieu qui m’a nourrit tout le long de ma vie jusqu’à ce jour,

 15 ¶ And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day,

16 Que l’Ange qui m’a racheté de tout mal, bénisse les jeunes garçons ; et mon nom soit appelés sur eux,et le nom de mes pères Abraham et Isaac ; et qu’ils croissent en une multitude au milieu de la terre.

 16 The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.

17 Et lorsque Joseph vit que son père mettait sa main droite sur la tête d’Ephra, cela lui déplut: et il soutint la main de son père, pour l'ôter de la tête d’Ephraim vers la tête de Manasseh .

 17 And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father’s hand, to remove it from Ephraim’s head unto Manasseh’s head.

18 Et Joseph dit à son père: Pas ainsi, mon père: car celui-ci est le premier-né ; mets ta main droite sur sa tête.

 18 And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father: for this is the firstborn; put thy right hand upon his head.

19 Et son père refusa, et dit, Je le sais, mon fils, je le sais: lui aussi doit devenir un peuple, et lui aussi doit être grand: mais en vérité son frère plus jeune doit être plus grand que lui, et sa semence doit devenir une multitude de nations.

 19 And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.

20 Et il les bénit ce jour-là, disant, En toi Israël doit être béni, disant, , Dieu te rende tel qu’Ephraim et Manasseh  : et il mit Ephraim avant Manasseh.

 20 And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee shall Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh.

21 Et Israël dit à Joseph, Voici, je meurs: mais Dieu doit être avec vous, et vous amènera de nouveau dans la terre de vos pères.

 21 And Israel said unto Joseph, Behold, I die: but God shall be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers.

22 De plus je t’ai donné une portion de plus qu’à tes frères, celle que j’ai prise de la main de l’Amorite, avec mon épée et mon arc.

 22 Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.
