1 Néanmoins l'obscurcissement ne sera pas autant qu'il avait été dans son humiliation, quand au commencement, il affligea légèrement la terre de Zebulon (Zabulon) et la terre de Naphtali (Nephthali) et ensuite, l'affligea plus sévèrement près de la mer, au-delà du Jourdain, en la Galilée des nations.

 1 Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.

2 Le peuple qui marchait dans l'obscurité a vu une grande lumière ; et ceux qui demeurent dans le pays de l'ombre mort, sur eux la lumière a resplendi.

 2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.

3 Tu as multiplié la nation, et tu n'as pas accru la joie ; ils se réjouissent devant toi, comme on se réjouit dans la moisson, et comme on se réjouit quand on partage le butin.

 3 Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

4 Car tu as brisé le joug dont il était chargé, et la verge qui frappait ses épaules, le bâton de son oppresseur, comme au jour de Midian (Madian).

 4 For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.

5 Car chaque bataille du guerrier se fait dans un bruit confus, et les vêtements sont roulés dans le sang ; mais ceci sera un embrasement et alimentera le feu.

 5 For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.

6 Car un enfant nous est né, un fils nous est donné, et le gouvernement sera sur son épaule son nom s'appellera Merveilleux, Conseiller, le Dieu puissant, le Père éternel, le Prince de Paix.

 6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

7 À l'accroissement de son gouvernement et à la paix, il n'y aura pas de fin, sur le trône de David et sur son royaume, pour le diriger et l'établir avec jugement et avec justice, dès maintenant et à toujours. Le zèle du SEIGNEUR des armées fera cela.

 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

8 ¶ Le Seigneur a envoyé une parole à Jacob et elle est descendue sur Israël.

 8 ¶ The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel.

9 Et le peuple entier le saura, c'est-à-dire Ephraim (Éphraïm) et les habitants de Samarie, qui disent avec orgueil et avec un cœur hautain.

 9 And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, that say in the pride and stoutness of heart,

10 Les briques sont tombées, mais nous bâtirons en pierres de taille ; les sycomores ont été coupés, mais nous les remplacerons par des cèdres.

 10 The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars.

11 C'est pourquoi le SEIGNEUR élèvera les adversaires de Rezin (Retsin) contre lui, et assemblera ses ennemis.

 11 Therefore the LORD shall set up the adversaries of Rezin against him, and join his enemies together;

12 Les Syriens par-devant, et les Philistins par-derrière ; et ils dévoreront Israël à gueule ouverte. Et malgré tout cela, son courroux ne s'est pas détourné, mais sa main est toujours tendue.

 12 The Syrians before, and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

13 ¶ Car le peuple ne retourne pas à celui qui le frappe, ils ne cherchent pas non plus le SEIGNEUR des armées.

 13 ¶ For the people turneth not unto him that smiteth them, neither do they seek the LORD of hosts.

14 C'est pourquoi le SEIGNEUR retranchera d'Israël la tête et la queue, la branche et le jonc en un jour.

 14 Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day.

15 L'ancien et l'homme considéré, lui est la tête, et le prophète qui enseigne le mensonge, lui, est la queue.

 15 The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail.

16 Car les conducteurs de ce peuple le font égarer, et ceux qui sont conduits par eux sont anéantis.

 16 For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.

17 C'est pourquoi le Seigneur n'aura aucune joie en leurs jeunes gens, n'aura pas non plus miséricorde sur ses orphelins ni des veuves ; car ce sont tous des hypocrites et des malfaiteurs, et toute bouche profère la bêtise. À cause de tout cela, son courroux ne s'est pas détourné, mais sa main est toujours tendue.

 17 Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is an hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

18 ¶ Car la méchanceté brûle comme un feu, elle dévorera les ronces et les épines, et embrasera les taillis de la forêt, et ils monteront comme la fumée qui s'élève.

 18 ¶ For wickedness burneth as the fire: it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke.

19 Par la fureur du SEIGNEUR des armées le pays est obscurci, et le peuple sera comme ce qui alimente le feu ; nul n'épargne son frère.

 19 Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts is the land darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: no man shall spare his brother.

20 On arrachera à droite, et l'on aura faim ; et on mangera à gauche, et l'on ne sera pas rassasié ; chacun mangera la chair de son propre bras.

 20 And he shall snatch on the right hand, and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied: they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm:

21 Manasseh (Manassé), Ephraim (Éphraïm) ; et Ephraim (Éphraïm), Manasseh (Manassé) ; et ensemble ils seront contre Judah. Pour tout cela, son courroux ne s'est pas détourné, mais sa main reste tendue.

 21 Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh: and they together shall be against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
