1 Malheur à ceux qui décrètent des décrets iniques, et qui écrivent l'oppression qu'ils ont prescrites.

 1 Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed;

2 Pour écarter le nécessiteux du jugement, et pour ravir le droit aux pauvres de mon peuple, afin que les veuves soient leur proie, et qu'ils puissent voler les orphelins !

 2 To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!

3 Et que ferez-vous au jour de la visitation et de la désolation qui viendra de loin ? Vers qui fuirez-vous pour avoir du secours ? et où laisserez-vous votre gloire ?

 3 And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?

4 Sans moi, ils se courberont sous les prisonniers et ils tomberont sous les morts. Pour tout cela, son courroux ne s'est pas détourné, mais sa main est toujours tendue.

 4 Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

5 Ô l'Assyrien, le bâton de mon courroux, et la houlette dans leur main est mon indignation.

 5 ¶ O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.

6 Je l'enverrai contre une nation hypocrite, et je le dépêcherai contre le peuple de ma colère, pour piller et pour prendre le butin, et pour le piétiner comme la boue des rues.

 6 I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

7 Quoi qu'il en soit il ne l'estimera pas ainsi, et son cœur ne le pense pas ainsi ; mais c'est en son cœur de détruire, et d'exterminer des nations, et pas en petit nombre.

 7 Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.

8 Car il dit : Mes princes ne sont-ils pas tous des rois ?

 8 For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings?

9 Calno n'est-elle comme Carchemish (Carkémish) ? Hamath n'est-elle pas comme Arpad ? Samarie n'est-elle pas comme Damas ?

 9 Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus?

10 Comme ma main a trouvé les royaumes des idoles et dont les images taillées surpassaient celles de Jérusalem et de Samarie,

 10 As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria;

11 Ne ferai-je pas à Jérusalem et à ses idoles, comme j'ai fait à Samarie et à ses idoles ?

 11 Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?

12 C'est pourquoi il arrivera, que quand le Seigneur aura achevé toute son œuvre sur le mont Zion (Sion) et à Jérusalem, je punirai le fruit du cœur hautain du roi d'Assyrie, et la gloire de la fierté de ses yeux.

 12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.

13 Car il dit : Je l'ai fait par la puissance de ma main et par ma sagesse ; car je suis prudent ; et j'ai ôté les bornes des peuples, et j'ai volé leurs trésors ; et j'ai réprimé les habitants comme un homme vaillant.

 13 For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:

14 Et ma main a trouvé comme un nid les richesses des peuples, et comme on ramasse des œufs délaissés, ainsi ai-je ramassé toute la terre ; et il n'y a eu personne qui ait remué l'aile, ni ouvert le bec, ni jeter un coup d'œil.

 14 And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.

15 La hache se vantera-t-elle contre celui qui coupe avec ? Ou la scie s'élèvera-t-elle contre celui qui la manie ? Comme si le bâton voulait se secouer contre ceux qui le lèvent, ou comme si la verge voulait s'élever comme si elle n'était pas de bois.

 15 Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood.

16 C'est pourquoi le Seigneur, le Seigneur des armées, enverra la maigreur parmi ses hommes gras, et sous sa gloire il allumera un embrasement, tel que l'embrasement d'un feu.

 16 Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.

17 Et la lumière d'Israël sera un feu, et son Seul Saint, une flamme, et il brûlera et dévorera ses épines et ses ronces, en un seul jour ;

 17 And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day;

18 Et il consumera la gloire de sa forêt et de son champ fertile, à la fois l'âme et lr corps ; et ils seront comme un porte étendard quiand il défaille.

 18 And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when a standardbearer fainteth.

19 Et le reste des arbres de la forêt seront peu nombreux, si bien qu'un enfant pourra les écrire.

 19 And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may write them.

20 ¶ Et il arrivera en ce jour-là, que le résidu d’Israël et ceux qui se seront échappés de la maison de Jacob ne s’appuieront plus sur celui qui les frappait ; mais ils s’appuieront sur le SEIGNEUR, le Saint d’Israël, en vérité.

 20 ¶ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.

21 Le résidu retournera, c'est-à-dire le résidu de Jacob, au Dieu puissant.

 21 The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.

22 Car combien même ton peuple Israël serait comme le sable de la mer, cependant un résidu retournera ; la destruction décrétée débordera de rectitude.

 22 For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.

23 Car le Seigneur DIEU des armées exécutera une destruction, même déterminée, au milieu de tout le pays.

 23 For the Lord GOD of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, in the midst of all the land.

24 ¶ C'est pourquoi, ainsi dit le Seigneur DIEU des armées : Ô mon peuple qui habite en Zion, n'aie pas peur de l'Assyrien, il te frappera avec un bâton et lèvera sa houlette sur toi, à la manière de l'Égypte.

 24 ¶ Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.

25 Car encore un peu de temps, et l'indignation cessera, et mon courroux dans leur destruction.

 25 For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction.

26 Alors le SEIGNEUR des armées excitera sur lui un fouet, selon le carnage de Midian (Madian) au rocher d'Oreb ; et comme sa verge était sur la mer, lequel il lèvera aussi comme contre l'Égypte.

 26 And the LORD of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: and as his rod was upon the sea, so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.

27 Et il arrivera, en ce jour-là, que son fardeau sera ôté de dessus ton épaule, et son joug de dessus ton cou ; et le joug sera détruit à cause de l'onction.

 27 And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.

28 Il est arrivé à Aiath, il est passé à Migron, il a laissé à Michmash ses équipages.

 28 He is come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron; at Michmash he hath laid up his carriages:

29 Ils ont passé le défilé ; ils ont pris leur gîte à Geba (Guéba) ; Ramah (Rama) a peur ; Gibeah (Guibath) de Saul s'est enfuie.

 29 They are gone over the passage: they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled.

30 Élève ta voix, ô fille de Gallim. Fais-toi entendre jusqu'à Laish, ô pauvre Anathoth.

 30 Lift up thy voice, O daughter of Gallim: cause it to be heard unto Laish, O poor Anathoth.

31 Madmenah s'est écartée ; les habitants de Gebim (Guébim) s'assemblent pour fuir.

 31 Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee.

32 Jusqu'ici il restera à Nob ce jour-là, et il secouera sa main contre le mont de la fille de Zion, contre la colline de Jérusalem.

 32 As yet shall he remain at Nob that day: he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.

33 Voici, le Seigneur, le SEIGNEUR des armées, élaguera les rameaux avec violence, et ceux qui sont hauts de stature seront coupés, et les hautains seront abaissés.

 33 Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled.

34 Et il taillera avec le fer les taillis de la forêt, et le Liban tombera par un puissant.

 34 And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.
