1 Élève la voix, ne te retiens pas ; élève ta voix comme une trompette ; et montre à mon peuple leur transgression, et à la maison de Jacob leurs péchés.

 1 Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.

2 Cependant ils me cherchent chaque jour et prennent plaisir à connaître mes chemins, comme une nation qui pratiquerait la rectitude et n'aurait pas abandonné l'ordonnance de son Dieu ; ils me demandent des ordonnances de justice, ils prennent plaisir à s'approcher de Dieu

 2 Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching to God.

3 ¶ Pourquoi donc avons-nous jeûné, disent-ils, et tu ne l'as pas vu ? Pourquoi donc avons-nous affligé nos âmes, et tu n'en a pas connaissance ? Voici, au jour de votre jeûne, vous trouvez votre plaisir et vous extorquez tous vos travailleurs.

 3 ¶ Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not? wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours.

4 Voici, vous jeûnez pour quereller et disputer, et pour frapper du poing de méchanceté ; vous ne jeûnerez pas comme vous le faites ce jour, pour que votre voix soit entendue en haut.

 4 Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye shall not fast as ye do this day, to make your voice to be heard on high.

5 Est-ce là le jeûne que j'ai choisi ? un jour où un homme afflige son âme ? Est-ce de courber sa tête comme un jonc, et en étendant le sac et la cendre sous soi ? Appelleras-tu cela un jeûne, et un jour acceptable au SEIGNEUR ?

 5 Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?

6 N'est-ce pas le jeûne que j'ai choisi ? De détacher les liens de perversité, de délier les lourds fardeaux, de renvoyer libres les opprimés, et que vous brisiez tout joug ?

 6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?

7 N'est-ce pas que tu rompes ton pain avec l'affamé, et que tu fasses entrer dans ta maison les pauvres qui sont chassés ? quand tu vois un homme nu, que tu le couvres, et que tu ne te caches pas de ta propre chair ?

 7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?

8 ¶ Alors ta lumière éclorera comme l'aube du jour, et ta santé surgira rapidement ; et ta rectitude ira devant toi ; et la gloire du SEIGNEUR sera ton arrière-garde.

 8 ¶ Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward.

9 Alors tu appelleras, et le SEIGNEUR répondra ; tu crieras, et il dira.Je suis ici. Si tu ôtes du milieu de toi le joug, ainsi que le doigt levé, et les paroles vaines ;

 9 Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;

10 Et si tu tires hors ton âme pour l'affamé, et que tu rassasies l'âme affligée, alors ta lumière se lèvera dans l'obscurité, et tes ténèbres seront comme le midi.

 10 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday:

11 Et le SEIGNEUR te conduira continuellement, et rassasiera ton âme dans la sécheresse, et fortifiera tes os, et tu seras comme un jardin arrosé, et comme une source dont les eaux ne manquent jamais.

 11 And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

12 Et ceux qui sortiront de toi rebâtiront les anciens lieux dévastés, tu rétabliras les fondements de beaucoup de générations ; et tu seras appelé le réparateur de brèche, le restaurateur des sentiers où l'on demeure.

 12 And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.

13 ¶ Si tu détournes ton pied le shabbat, pour ne pas faire ce qui te plait dans mon saint jour ; si tu appelles le shabbat un délice, et honorable ce qui est saint au SEIGNEUR ; si tu l'honores en ne suivant pas tes propres chemins, ne cherchant pas ton propre plaisir, ni ne disant : tes propres paroles

 13 ¶ If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:

14 Alors tu trouveras des délices dans le SEIGNEUR ; et je te ferai chevaucher sur les lieux haut élevés du pays, et je te nourrirai de l'héritage de Jacob, ton père ; car la bouche du SEIGNEUR a parlé.

 14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
