1 Ils disent : Si un homme répudie sa femme, et qu’elle le quitte et qu’elle devienne la femme d’un autre homme, retournera-t-il vers elle ? Ce pays n’en sera-t-il pas vraiment souillé ? Or toi, qui t’es prostituée à beaucoup d’amants, toutefois retourne vers moi, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 1 They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man’s, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.

2 Lève tes yeux vers les hauts lieux, et regarde où tu ne t’es pas abandonnée. Tu t’asseyais les attendant sur les chemins comme l’Arabe dans le désert, et tu as souillé le pays par tes prostitutions et par ta méchanceté.

 2 Lift up thine eyes unto the high places, and see where thou hast not been lien with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness.

3 C’est pourquoi les pluies ont été retenues, et il n’y a pas eu de pluie de la dernière saison. Et tu as un front de prostituée, tu as refusé d’avoir honte.

 3 Therefore the showers have been withholden, and there hath been no latter rain; and thou hadst a whore’s forehead, thou refusedst to be ashamed.

4 Ne crieras-tu pas désormais vers moi : Mon père, tu es le guide de ma jeunesse ?

 4 Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, My father, thou art the guide of my youth?

5 Retiendra-t-il à toujours son courroux à toujours ? Le gardera-t-il jusqu’à la fin ? Voici, tu as parlé et tu as fais les mauvaises choses autant que tu as pu.

 5 Will he reserve his anger for ever? will he keep it to the end? Behold, thou hast spoken and done evil things as thou couldest.

6 ¶ Le SEIGNEUR m’a aussi dit aux jours du roi Josiah (Josias) : As-tu vu ce qu’a fait Israël, l’apostate ? Elle est montée sur toute haute montagne, et sous tout arbre vert, et elle s’y est prostituée.

 6 ¶ The LORD said also unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot.

7 Et je disais après qu’elle a fait toutes ces choses : Retourne-toi vers moi. Mais elle n’est pas revenue. Et sa sœur, Juda la perfide l’a vu.

 7 And I said after she had done all these things, Turn thou unto me. But she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.

8 Et j’ai vu que, quand pour toutes les causes par lesquelles Israël l’apostate avait commis adultère, je l’ai répudiée, et lui ai donné sa lettre de divorce, cependant sa sœur Juda, la perfide n’a pas eu peur, mais est allée et s’est aussi prostituée.

 8 And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.

9 Et il est arrivé que par la légèreté de sa prostitution, elle a souillé le pays, et a commis adultère avec les pierres et le bois.

 9 And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks.

10 Et néanmoins pour tout cela, sa sœur Juda, la perfide, n’est pas retournée à moi de tout son cœur, mais en le feignant, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 10 And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not turned unto me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith the LORD.

11 Et le SEIGNEUR m’a dit : Israël l’apostate s’est plus justifiée que Juda la perfide.

 11 And the LORD said unto me, The backsliding Israel hath justified herself more than treacherous Judah.

12 ¶ Va, et proclame ces paroles vers le Nord, et dis : Retourne, toi apostate Israël, dit le SEIGNEUR ; et je ne ferai pas tomber mon courroux sur vous ; car je suis miséricordieux, dit le SEIGNEUR ; je ne garderai pas mon courroux à toujours.

 12 ¶ Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the LORD, and I will not keep anger for ever.

13 Seulement reconnais ton iniquité, que tu as transgressé contre le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu, que tu as dispersé tes chemins vers les étrangers sous tout arbre vert, et que vous n’avez pas obéi à ma voix, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 13 Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the LORD thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the LORD.

14 Revenez, ô enfants apostats, dit le SEIGNEUR ; car je vous ai épousés, et je vous prendrai, un d’une ville et deux d’une famille, et je vous ramènerai dans Sion ;

 14 Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

15 Et je vous donnerai des pasteurs selon mon cœur, lesquels vous nourriront avec connaissance et intelligence.

 15 And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

16 Et il arrivera que, quand vous serez multipliés et accrus dans le pays, en ces jours-là, dit le SEIGNEUR, on ne dira plus : L’arche de l’alliance du SEIGNEUR : Elle ne viendra plus à la pensée ; ils ne s’en souviendront plus ; ils ne la visiteront plus, et cela ne se fera plus.

 16 And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.

17 En ce temps-là, on appellera Jérusalem, le trône du SEIGNEUR, et toutes les nations s’assembleront vers elle au nom du SEIGNEUR, à Jérusalem, et elles ne marcheront plus suivant l’imagination de leur mauvais cœur.

 17 At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.

18 En ces jours-là, la maison de Juda marchera avec la maison d’Israël, et elles viendront ensemble du pays du Nord au pays que j’ai donné en héritage à vos pères.

 18 In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.

19 Mais j’ai dit : Comment te mettrai-je parmi les enfants, et te donnerai-je un pays désirable, un bel héritage des armées des nations? Et j’ai dit : Tu m’appelleras : Mon père, et tu ne te détourneras plus de moi.

 19 But I said, How shall I put thee among the children, and give thee a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the hosts of nations? and I said, Thou shalt call me, My father; and shalt not turn away from me.

20 ¶ Certainement, comme une épouse perfide quitte son mari, ainsi vous avez agi perfidement avec moi, ô maison d’Israël, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 20 ¶ Surely as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith the LORD.

21 Une voix a été entendue sur les hauts lieux, les pleurs et les supplications des enfants d’Israël, car ils ont perverti leur chemin, et ils ont oublié le SEIGNEUR leur Dieu.

 21 A voice was heard upon the high places, weeping and supplications of the children of Israel: for they have perverted their way, and they have forgotten the LORD their God.

22 Retournez, vous enfants apostats, et je guérirai vos relaps. Voici, nous venons à toi car tu es le SEIGNEUR notre Dieu.

 22 Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the LORD our God.

23 Certainement, c’est en vain qu’on attend le salut des collines et de la multitude des montagnes ; véritablement c’est en le SEIGNEUR notre Dieu qu’est le salut d’Israël.

 23 Truly in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills, and from the multitude of mountains: truly in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel.

24 Car la honte a dévoré le travail de nos pères depuis notre jeunesse, leurs moutons s et leurs bœufs, leurs fils et leurs filles.

 24 For shame hath devoured the labour of our fathers from our youth; their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.

25 Nous nous coucherons dans notre honte, et que notre confusion nous couvre ; car nous avons péché contre le SEIGNEUR notre Dieu, nous et nos pères, depuis notre jeunesse et jusqu’à ce jour ; et nous n’avons pas obéi à la voix du SEIGNEUR notre Dieu.

 25 We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covereth us: for we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.
