1 De plus la parole du SEIGNEUR vint à moi, disant :

 1 Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

2 Va, et crie aux oreilles de Jérusalem, disant : Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : Je me souviens de toi, de la bonté de ta jeunesse, de l’amour de tes épousailles, quand tu venais après moi dans le désert, dans un pays qui n’était pas semé.

 2 Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.

3 Israël était sainteté au SEIGNEUR et les prémices de son revenu : tous ceux qui le dévorent seront coupables ; du mal viendra sur eux, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 3 Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.

4 Entendez la parole du SEIGNEUR, ô maison de Jacob, et vous, toutes les familles de la maison d’Israël.

 4 Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:

5 ¶ Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : Quelle iniquité vos pères ont-ils trouvée en moi, pour qu’ils se soient éloignés de moi, et qu’ils aient marché après la vanité et soient devenus vains ?

 5 ¶ Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?

6 Ils n’ont pas dit non plus : Où est le SEIGNEUR, qui nous a fait monter hors du pays d’Égypte, qui nous a conduits dans le désert, à travers un pays sauvage et de ravins, à travers un pays aride et d’ombre de la mort, à travers un pays où aucun homme ne passait et où aucun homme ne demeurait ?

 6 Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?

7 Et je vous ai amenés dans un pays fertile, pour en manger ses fruits et ses bonnes choses ; mais, quand vous y êtes entrés, vous avez souillé mon pays, et vous avez fait de mon héritage une abomination.

 7 And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.

8 Les prêtres n’ont pas dit : Où est le SEIGNEUR ? Et ceux qui expliquaient la loi ne m’ont pas connu ; les pasteurs aussi se sont rebellés contre moi, et les prophètes ont prophétisé par Baal, et ont marché après des choses qui ne profitent pas.

 8 The priests said not, Where is the LORD? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.

9 ¶ C’est pourquoi je contesterai avec vous, dit le SEIGNEUR, et je contesterai avec les enfants de vos enfants.

 9 ¶ Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the LORD, and with your children’s children will I plead.

10 Car passez par les îles de Chittim (Kittim), et voyez ; et envoyez en Kedar, et considérez bien, et voyez s’il y a eu pareille chose.

 10 For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there be such a thing.

11 Y a-t-il une nation qui ait changé ses dieux, lesquels toutefois ne sont pas des dieux ? Mais mon peuple a changé sa gloire contre ce qui n’est d’aucun profit.

 11 Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.

12 Ô vous cieux soyez étonnés de ceci, et soyez horriblement effrayés, soyez grandement dévastés, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 12 Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD.

13 Car mon peuple a commis deux maux ; ils m’ont abandonné, moi, la source d’eaux vives, et ceci pour se creuser des citernes, des citernes fêlées qui ne retiennent pas l’eau.

 13 For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

14 ¶ Israël est-il un serviteur ? Est-il un esclave né dans la maison ? Pourquoi est-il saccagé ?

 14 ¶ Is Israel a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he spoiled?

15 Les lionceaux ont rugi et crié sur lui, et ils ont fait de son pays une dévastation ; ses villes sont brûlées, et sans habitant.

 15 The young lions roared upon him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant.

16 Même les enfants de Noph et de Tahapanes (Taphnès) ont brisé le sommet de ta tête.

 16 Also the children of Noph and Tahapanes have broken the crown of thy head.

17 Ne t’es-tu pas fait cela toi-même parce que tu as abandonné le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu, quand il te conduisait par le chemin ?

 17 Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, when he led thee by the way?

18 Et maintenant qu’as-tu à faire d’aller en Égypte boire les eaux du Sihor ? Et qu’as-tu à faire d’aller en Assyrie pour boire les eaux du fleuve ?

 18 And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast thou to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?

19 Ta propre malveillance te corrigera, et tes relaps te reprendront ; afin que tu saches et vois que c’est une chose mauvaise et amère que tu aies abandonné le SEIGNEUR, ton Dieu, et que ma crainte ne soit pas en toi, dit le Seigneur DIEU des armées.

 19 Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

20 ¶ Parce que depuis longtemps j’ai brisé ton joug et rompu tes liens, et tu as dit : Je ne transgresserai pas ; quand sur toute haute colline et sous tout arbre vert, tu trottines en te prostituant.

 20 ¶ For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot.

21 Cependant je t’avais plantée comme une vigne exquise, une semence entièrement de vérité ; comment donc t’es-tu détournée de moi en sarments dégénérés de vigne étrangère ?

 21 Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?

22 Même si tu te laverais avec du nitre, et que tu prendrais beaucoup de savon, malgré tout ton iniquité est marquée devant moi, dit le Seigneur, DIEU.

 22 For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD.

23 Comment peux-tu dire : Je ne me suis pas souillée, je ne suis pas allée après les Baalim? Regarde ton chemin dans la vallée, reconnais ce que tu as fait, tu es un dromadaire rapide, entrecroisant ses chemins ;

 23 How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways;

24 Anesse sauvage, accoutumée au désert, qui, hume le vent à son plaisir ; qui pourrait la détourner dans sa course ? Tous ceux qui la cherchent ne se lasseront pas ; ils la trouveront en son mois.

 24 A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.

25 Retiens ton pied de se déchausser, et ta gorge d’avoir soif ; mais tu dis : C’est en vain ; non, car j’aime les étrangers, et j’irai après eux.

 25 Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.

26 Comme un voleur est honteux quand il est surpris, ainsi est honteuse la maison d’Israël ; eux, leurs rois, leurs princes, et leurs prêtres, et leurs prophètes.

 26 As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets,

27 Ils disent au bois : Tu es mon père, et à une pierre : Tu m’as enfanté. Car ils m’ont tourné le dos et non leur visage ; mais ils diront, au temps de leur détresse : Lève-toi, et sauve-nous.

 27 Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.

28 Et où sont les dieux que tu t’es faits ? Qu’ils se lèvent, s’ils peuvent te sauver au temps de ta détresse : Car le nombre de tes dieux est le même que celui de tes villes, ô Juda .

 28 But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.

29 Pourquoi plaideriez-vous avec moi? Vous avez tous transgressé contre moi, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 29 Wherefore will ye plead with me? ye all have transgressed against me, saith the LORD.

30 En vain j’ai frappé vos enfants ; ils n’ont reçu aucune correction ; votre propre épée a dévoré vos prophètes, comme un lion destructeur.

 30 In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

31 ¶ Ô génération, voyez la parole du SEIGNEUR. Ai-je été un désert pour Israël ? Ou une terre d’obscurité ? Pourquoi mon peuple a-t-il dit : Nous sommes seigneurs ; nous ne viendrons plus à toi ?

 31 ¶ O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?

32 Une jeune fille peut-elle oublier ses ornements, ou une mariée ses atours ? Toutefois mon peuple m’a oublié durant des jours sans nombre.

 32 Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.

33 Pourquoi uses-tu tant d’artifice dans ton comportement pour chercher l’amour ? C’est pourquoi aussi tu as enseigné tes habitudes aux malfaisants.

 33 Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? therefore hast thou also taught the wicked ones thy ways.

34 Même dans tes pans a été trouvé le sang des âmes des pauvres innocents ; je ne l’ai pas trouvé en fouillant secrètement, mais par ceux-là mêmes.

 34 Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.

35 Malgré tout tu dis : Parce que je suis innocente, certainement son courroux se détournera de moi. Voici, je contesterai avec toi parce que tu dis : Je n’ai pas péché.

 35 Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.

36 Pourquoi cours-tu tant pour changer ton chemin ? Tu seras aussi honteuse de l’Égypte que tu as été honteuse de l’Assyrie.

 36 Why gaddest thou about so much to change thy way? thou also shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.

37 Oui, de celui-ci tu sortiras avec tes mains sur la tête, parce que le SEIGNEUR a rejeté les fondements de de ta confiance, et tu ne prospéreras pas par eux.

 37 Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and thine hands upon thine head: for the LORD hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not prosper in them.
