1 La parole qui vint à Jeremiah (Jérémie) de la part du SEIGNEUR, disant :

 1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

2 Tiens-toi à la porte de la maison du SEIGNEUR, et là, proclame cette parole, et dis : Entendez la parole du SEIGNEUR, vous tous, de Juda, qui entrez par ces portes pour adorer le SEIGNEUR.

 2 Stand in the gate of the LORD’S house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD.

3 Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR des armées, le Dieu d’Israël : Amendez vos chemins et vos actions, et je vous ferai demeurer dans ce lieu.

 3 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.

4 Ne vous fiez pas à des paroles mensongères, disant : Le temple du SEIGNEUR, le temple du SEIGNEUR, le temple du SEIGNEUR sont celles-ci.

 4 Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these.

5 Car si vous amendez sérieusement vos chemins et vos actions ; si vous exécutez le jugement entre un homme et son voisin ;

 5 For if ye throughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye throughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbour;

6 Si vous n’opprimez pas l’étranger, l’orphelin, et la veuve, et ne versez pas de sang innocent dans ce lieu, et ne marchez pas non plus après d’autres dieux, pour votre préjudice ;

 6 If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt:

7 Alors je vous ferai demeurer en ce lieu, dans le pays que j’ai donné à vos pères, pour toujours et toujours.

 7 Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.

8 ¶ Voici, vous vous fiez en des paroles mensongères, qui ne procurent aucun profit.

 8 ¶ Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.

9 Vous volerez, tuerez, commettrez des adultères, et jurerez faussement, et brûlerez de l’encens à Baal, et marcherez après d’autres dieux lesquels, vous ne connaissez pas,

 9 Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;

10 Et vous viendrez et vous vous présenterez devant moi dans cette maison qui est appelée de mon nom et vous direz : Nous sommes délivrés pour faire toutes ces abominations-là ?

 10 And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?

11 Cette maison qui est appelée par mon nom, est-elle devenue une caverne de voleurs à vos yeux ? Voici, moi-même je l’ai vu, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 11 Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the LORD.

12 Mais allez maintenant à mon lieu, qui était à Shiloh (Silo), où j’avais placé mon nom au commencement, et voyez ce que je lui ai fait, à cause de la malice de mon peuple Israël.

 12 But go ye now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I set my name at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.

13 Et maintenant, parce que vous avez fait toutes ces actions, dit le SEIGNEUR, et que je vous ai parlé, me levant tôt et parlant, mais vous n’avez pas entendu ; et je vous ai appelés, mais vous n’avez pas répondu ;

 13 And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the LORD, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not;

14 C’est pourquoi je ferai à cette maison, qui est appelée de mon nom, en laquelle vous vous fiez, et à ce lieu que je vous ai donné, à vous et à vos pères, comme j’ai fait à Shiloh (Silo).

 14 Therefore will I do unto this house, which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.

15 Et je vous chasserai de devant ma vue, comme j’ai chassé tous vos frères, et même l’entière semence d’Ephraim (Éphraïm).

 15 And I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, even the whole seed of Ephraim.

16 C’est pourquoi, toi, ne prie pas pour ce peuple, n’élève pour eux, ni cri, ni prière, et n’intercède pas auprès de moi, car je ne t’entendrai pas.

 16 Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.

17 ¶ Ne vois-tu pas ce qu’ils font dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem ?

 17 ¶ Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

18 Les enfants ramassent le bois, et les pères allument le feu, et les femmes pétrissent leur pâte, pour faire des gâteaux à la reine du ciel et pour verser des offrandes liquides à d’autres dieux, afin de me provoquer au courroux.

 18 The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

19 Me provoquent-ils au courroux ? dit le SEIGNEUR. Ne provoquent-ils pas eux-mêmes, à la confusion de leurs propres visages ?

 19 Do they provoke me to anger? saith the LORD: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?

20 C’est pourquoi, ainsi dit le Seigneur DIEU Voici, mon courroux et ma fureur seront versés sur ce lieu, sur l’homme et sur la bête, sur les arbres des champs et sur le fruit de la terre ; et il brûlera et ne s’éteindra pas.

 20 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.

21 ¶ Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR des armées, le Dieu d’Israël : Ajoutez vos offrandes consumées à vos sacrifices, et mangez-en la chair.

 21 ¶ Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Put your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat flesh.

22 Car je n’ai pas parlé avec vos pères, ni ne leur ai commandé au jour où je les ai fait sortir du pays d’Égypte, au sujet des offrandes consumées et des sacrifices.

 22 For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices:

23 Mais je leur ai commandé cette chose, disant : Obéissez ma voix, et je serai votre Dieu, et vous serez mon peuple ; et marchez dans tous les chemins que je vous ai commandés, afin que tout soit bien avec vous.

 23 But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

24 Mais ils n’écoutèrent pas, et n’inclinèrent pas leur oreille ; mais ils marchèrent selon les conseils et l’obstination de leur mauvais cœur, et ont reculé au lieu d’avancer.

 24 But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.

25 Depuis le jour où vos pères sortirent du pays d’Égypte jusqu’à ce jour, je vous ai même envoyé tous mes serviteurs les prophètes ; me levant tôt chaque jour, et les envoyant.

 25 Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them:

26 Mais ils ne m’ont pas écouté, ni incliné leur oreille, mais ont raidi leur cou ; ils ont fait pis que leurs pères.

 26 Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers.

27 C’est pourquoi tu leur diras toutes ces paroles ; mais ils ne t’écouteront pas ; tu appelleras après eux ; mais ils ne te répondront pas.

 27 Therefore thou shalt speak all these words unto them; but they will not hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee.

28 Pourtant tu leur diras : C’est ici une nation qui n’obéit pas la voix du SEIGNEUR, son Dieu, et qui n’accepte pas la correction ; la vérité est périe, et est retranchée de leur bouche.

 28 But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.

29 ¶ Coupe ta chevelure, ô Jérusalem et jette-la au loin ; et fais monter une lamentation sur les lieux élevés, car le SEIGNEUR a rejeté et abandonné la génération de sa colère.

 29 ¶ Cut off thine hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on high places; for the LORD hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.

30 Car les enfants de Juda ont fait ce qui est mal à ma vue, dit le SEIGNEUR ; ils ont mis leurs abominations dans la maison qui est appelée de mon nom, afin de la souiller.

 30 For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the LORD: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to pollute it.

31 Et ils ont bâti les hauts lieux de Tophet, qui est dans la vallée du fils de Hinnom, pour brûler au feu leurs fils et leurs filles, ce que je ne leur ai pas commandé, ni n’est monté en mon cœur.

 31 And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart.

32 ¶ C’est pourquoi, voici, les jours viennent, dit le SEIGNEUR, qu’elle ne sera plus appelée Tophet, ni la vallée du fils de Hinnom, mais la vallée de l’abattoir ; car on enterrera à Tophet, jusqu’à ce qu’il n’y ait plus de place.

 32 ¶ Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be called Tophet, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall bury in Tophet, till there be no place.

33 Et les cadavres de ce peuple seront viande pour les volatiles du ciel et pour les bêtes de la terre, et personne ne les effarouchera.

 33 And the carcases of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall fray them away.

34 Alors je ferai cesser dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem, la voix de joie et la voix d’allégresse, la voix de l’époux et la voix de l’épouse ; car le pays sera une désolation.

 34 Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride: for the land shall be desolate.
