1 Ô vous, enfants de Benjamin, rassemblez vous pour vous enfuir du milieu de Jérusalem, et sonnez de la trompette à Tekoa, et élevez un signal vers Bethhaccerem ; car du Nord, le mal apparaît, et une grande destruction.

 1 O ye children of Benjamin, gather yourselves to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and set up a sign of fire in Bethhaccerem: for evil appeareth out of the north, and great destruction.

2 J’avais comparé la fille de Sion à une femme gracieuse et délicate.

 2 I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate woman.

3 Les bergers avec leurs troupeaux viendront à elle ; ils planteront contre elle leurs tentes tout autour ; ils se nourriront chacun en son lieu.

 3 The shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed every one in his place.

4 Préparez la guerre contre elle ; levez-vous, et montons en plein midi. Malheur à nous ! Car le jour décline, car les ombres du soir s’allongent.

 4 Prepare ye war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe unto us! for the day goeth away, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out.

5 Levez-vous, et montons de nuit, et détruisons ses palais.

 5 Arise, and let us go by night, and let us destroy her palaces.

6 ¶ Car ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR des armées : Coupez des arbres, et élevez un mont contre Jérusalem : c’est la ville qui doit être visitée punie, elle est tout entière oppression au milieu d’elle.

 6 ¶ For thus hath the LORD of hosts said, Hew ye down trees, and cast a mount against Jerusalem: this is the city to be visited; she is wholly oppression in the midst of her.

7 Comme une fontaine fait couler ses eaux, ainsi fait-elle couler sa malice ; violence et pillage sont entendus en elle ; il y a continuellement devant moi douleur et blessures.

 7 As a fountain casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her wickedness: violence and spoil is heard in her; before me continually is grief and wounds.

8 Reçois l’instruction, ô Jérusalem, de peur que mon âme ne se retire de toi ; de peur que je ne fasse de toi une désolation, une terre inhabitée.

 8 Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee; lest I make thee desolate, a land not inhabited.

9 ¶ Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR des armées : On grappillera entièrement comme une vigne, le reste d’Israël : Remets, comme un vendangeur, ta main dans les paniers.

 9 ¶ Thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall throughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine: turn back thine hand as a grapegatherer into the baskets.

10 À qui parlerai-je, et qui avertirai-je, pour qu’ils entendent ? Voici, leur oreille est incirconcise, et ils ne peuvent prêter attention ; voici la parole du SEIGNEUR est pour eux un reproche ; ils n’y prennent aucun plaisir.

 10 To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.

11 C’est pourquoi je suis rempli de la fureur du SEIGNEUR, je suis las de la retenir ; je la répandrai sur les enfants au-dehors, et sur l’assemblée des jeunes hommes aussi ; et même le mari avec sa femme seront pris, l’homme âgé avec celui qui est comblé de jours.

 11 Therefore I am full of the fury of the LORD; I am weary with holding in: I will pour it out upon the children abroad, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days.

12 Et leurs maisons passeront à d’autres, leurs champs et les femmes aussi ; car j’étendrai ma main sur les habitants du pays, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 12 And their houses shall be turned unto others, with their fields and wives together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.

13 Parce que depuis le plus petit d’entre eux jusqu’au plus grand, chacun s’adonne à la convoitise ; et depuis le prophète jusqu’au prêtre, tous agissent faussement.

 13 For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.

14 Et ils ont pansé la plaie de la fille de mon peuple à la légère, disant : Paix, paix, quand il n’y a pas de paix.

 14 They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.

15 Avaient-ils honte lorsqu’ils ont commis l’abomination ? Non, ils n’ont pas eu du tout honte, ils étaient même incapables de rougir : c’est pourquoi ils tomberont parmi ceux qui tombent ; au temps où je les visiterai, ils seront découragés, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 15 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.

16 Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : Tenez-vous sur les chemins, et regardez, et enquérez-vous des anciens sentiers, où est le bon chemin ; et marchez-y, et vous trouverez le repos de vos âmes. Mais ils ont dit : Nous n’y marcherons pas.

 16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

17 Et j’ai établi des sentinelles sur vous ; disant : Soyez attentifs au son de la trompette. Mais ils ont dit : Nous n’y serons pas attentifs.

 17 Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken.

18 ¶ C’est pourquoi entendez, vous nations, et sache, ô congrégation, ce qui est parmi eux.

 18 ¶ Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what is among them.

19 Entends, ô terre : Voici, je m’en vais faire venir un mal sur ce peuple, savoir le fruit de leurs pensées, parce qu’ils n’ont pas été attentifs à mes paroles, ni à ma loi, mais l’ont rejetée.

 19 Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.

20 À quoi me sert l’encens venu de Sheba, et la canne sucrée d’un pays éloigné ? Vos offrandes consumées ne sont pas acceptables, et vos sacrifices ne sont pas savoureux.

 20 To what purpose cometh there to me incense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto me.

21 C’est pourquoi ainsi dit le Seigneur : Voici, je vais mettre devant ce peuple des pierres d’achoppement, et les pères et les fils tomberont ensemble sur elles, le voisin et son ami périront.

 21 Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.

22 Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : Voici, un peuple vient du pays du Nord, et une grande nation sera levée du fin fond de la terre.

 22 Thus saith the LORD, Behold, a people cometh from the north country, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth.

23 Ils prendront l’arc et la lance ; ils sont cruels et n’ont aucune compassion ; leur voix rugit comme la mer, et, ils montent sur des chevaux, déployés comme des hommes de guerre contre toi, ô fille de Sion.

 23 They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roareth like the sea; and they ride upon horses, set in array as men for war against thee, O daughter of Zion.

24 Nous en avons entendu le bruit ; nos mains s’affaiblissent ; l’angoisse nous saisit, et une douleur comme celle d’une femme en travail.

 24 We have heard the fame thereof: our hands wax feeble: anguish hath taken hold of us, and pain, as of a woman in travail.

25 Ne sortez pas aux champs, et n’allez pas par les chemins car l’épée de l’ennemi, et la peur est de tout côté.

 25 Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy and fear is on every side.

26 ¶ Ô fille de mon peuple, ceins-toi d’un sac, et roule-toi dans la cendre ; mène deuil comme pour un seul fils, fais une lamentation des plus amères ; car le destructeur viendra subitement sur nous.

 26 ¶ O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes: make thee mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation: for the spoiler shall suddenly come upon us.

27 Je t’ai établi pour être une tour et une forteresse, au milieu de mon peuple, afin que tu saches et sondes leur chemin.

 27 I have set thee for a tower and a fortress among my people, that thou mayest know and try their way.

28 Ils sont tous les pires des rebelles, marchant en médisant, ils sont du bronze et du fer ; ils sont tous corrompus.

 28 They are all grievous revolters, walking with slanders: they are brass and iron; they are all corrupters.

29 Les soufflets sont brûlés ; le plomb est consumé par le feu ; le fondeur fond en vain car les méchants ne sont pas retirés.

 29 The bellows are burned, the lead is consumed of the fire; the founder melteth in vain: for the wicked are not plucked away.

30 On les appellera argent réprouvé ; parce que le SEIGNEUR les a rejetés.

 30 Reprobate silver shall men call them, because the LORD hath rejected them.
