1 Oh, si ma tête était toute en eaux, et mes yeux, une fontaine de larmes, afin que je puisse pleurer jour et nuit pour les morts de la fille de mon peuple !

 1 Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!

2 Oh si j’avais dans le désert une cabane de voyageurs ; afin que je puisse laisser mon peuple et me séparer d’eux ! Car ils sont tous des adultères, une assemblée d’hommes perfides.

 2 Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place of wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! for they be all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.

3 Et ils bandent leurs langues comme leur arc pour décocher des mensonges ; mais ils ne sont pas vaillants pour la vérité sur la terre ; car ils vont de malice en malice, et ils ne me connaissent pas, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 3 And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies: but they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith the LORD.

4 Gardez-vous chacun de son voisin, et ne vous fiez à aucun de vos frères ; car tout frère supplantera entièrement, et tout voisin marchera en médisant.

 4 Take ye heed every one of his neighbour, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbour will walk with slanders.

5 Et chacun trompera son voisin ; et ne dira pas la vérité ; ils ont appris leur langue à dire des mensonges, et ils se fatiguent à commettre l’iniquité.

 5 And they will deceive every one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity.

6 Ton habitation est au milieu de la tromperie ; à cause de la tromperie, ils refusent de me connaître, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 6 Thine habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith the LORD.

7 C’est pourquoi, ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR des armées : Voici je vais les fondre, et les éprouver, car comment agirais-je à l’égard de la fille de mon peuple ?

 7 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, I will melt them, and try them; for how shall I do for the daughter of my people?

8 Leur langue est comme une flèche décochée ; elle profère la tromperie ; de sa bouche, il parle de paix avec son voisin, mais en son cœur il lui dresse des embûches.

 8 Their tongue is as an arrow shot out; it speaketh deceit: one speaketh peaceably to his neighbour with his mouth, but in heart he layeth his wait.

9 ¶ Ne les visiterais-je pas pour ces choses ? dit le SEIGNEUR ; mon âme ne se vengerait-elle pas d’une telle nation ?

 9 ¶ Shall I not visit them for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

10 Pour les montagnes j’élèverai des pleurs et des gémissements, et pour les habitations dans le désert une lamentation, parce qu’elles sont brûlées, de sorte que personne n’y passe, et qu’on n’y entend plus la voix des troupeaux ; les oiseaux des cieux et les bêtes ont fui ; ils sont partis.

 10 For the mountains will I take up a weeping and wailing, and for the habitations of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up, so that none can pass through them; neither can men hear the voice of the cattle; both the fowl of the heavens and the beast are fled; they are gone.

11 Et je ferai de Jérusalem des monceaux (de ruines), et un repaire de dragons ; et je réduirai les villes de Juda en désolation, sans un habitant.

 11 And I will make Jerusalem heaps, and a den of dragons; and I will make the cities of Judah desolate, without an inhabitant.

12 ¶ Qui est l’homme sage qui puisse comprendre ceci ? Qui est celui auquel la bouche du SEIGNEUR ait parlé, qu’il le déclare, pourquoi le pays périt-il, et est brûlé comme un désert, de sorte que personne n’y passe ?

 12 ¶ Who is the wise man, that may understand this? and who is he to whom the mouth of the LORD hath spoken, that he may declare it, for what the land perisheth and is burned up like a wilderness, that none passeth through?

13 Et le SEIGNEUR dit : Parce qu’ils ont abandonné ma loi que j’avais mise devant eux, et qu’ils n’ont pas obéi à ma voix et n’ont pas marché selon elle ;

 13 And the LORD saith, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, neither walked therein;

14 Mais qu’ils ont marché après l’imagination de leur cœur et après les Baalim, ce que leurs pères leur ont enseigné.

 14 But have walked after the imagination of their own heart, and after Baalim, which their fathers taught them:

15 C’est pourquoi, ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR des armées, le Dieu d’Israël : Voici, je m’en vais leur donner à manger, à savoir, à ce peuple-ci, de l’absinthe et je leur donnerai à boire de l’eau de fiel.

 15 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink.

16 Et je les disperserai parmi les païens qu’ils n’ont ni eux, ni leurs pères connus ; et j’enverrai après eux une épée, jusqu’à ce que je les aie consumés.

 16 I will scatter them also among the heathen, whom neither they nor their fathers have known: and I will send a sword after them, till I have consumed them.

17 ¶ Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR des armées : Considérez, et appelez des pleureuses, afin qu’elles viennent ; et envoyez vers les femmes adroites, et qu’elles viennent.

 17 ¶ Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Consider ye, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for cunning women, that they may come:

18 Et qu’elles se hâtent, et qu’elles prononcent sur nous une lamentation, afin que nos yeux fondent en larmes, que l’eau coule de nos paupières.

 18 And let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters.

19 Car une voix de gémissement est entendue de Sion : Comme nous sommes saccagés ! Nous sommes grandement honteux, parce que nous avons abandonné le pays, parce que nos demeures nous ont jetés dehors.

 19 For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How are we spoiled! we are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, because our dwellings have cast us out.

20 Cependant, ô vous femmes, écoutez la parole du SEIGNEUR ; et que votre oreille reçoive la parole de sa bouche ; et enseignez vos filles à gémir, et chacune à sa voisine la lamentation.

 20 Yet hear the word of the LORD, O ye women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth, and teach your daughters wailing, and every one her neighbour lamentation.

21 Car la mort est montée par nos fenêtres ; et est entrée dans nos palais, pour retrancher les enfants au dehors, et les jeunes hommes dans les rues.

 21 For death is come up into our windows, and is entered into our palaces, to cut off the children from without, and the young men from the streets.

22 Dis : Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : Même les cadavres des hommes tomberont comme des excréments sur le dessus des champs, et comme une poignée d’épis après le moissonneur, et personne ne les ramassera.

 22 Speak, Thus saith the LORD, Even the carcases of men shall fall as dung upon the open field, and as the handful after the harvestman, and none shall gather them.

23 ¶ Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : Que le sage ne se glorifie pas dans sa sagesse, que le puissant homme ne se glorifie pas dans sa puissance, et que le riche ne se glorifie pas dans ses richesses.

 23 ¶ Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:

24 Mais que celui qui se glorifie, se glorifie en ceci, qu’il me comprend, et qu’il me connaît, car je suis le SEIGNEUR qui exerce bonté compatissante, jugement et rectitude sur la terre ; car en ces choses je prends plaisir dit le SEIGNEUR.

 24 But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.

25 ¶ Voici, les jours viennent, dit le SEIGNEUR, quand je punirai tous ceux qui sont circoncis avec les incirconcis ;

 25 ¶ Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will punish all them which are circumcised with the uncircumcised;

26 L’Égypte, et Juda, et Édom, et les enfants d’Ammon, et Moab, et tous ceux qui sont aux extrêmes coins, qui demeurent dans le désert car toutes ces nations sont incirconcises, et toute la maison d’Israël est incirconcise de cœur.

 26 Egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all that are in the utmost corners, that dwell in the wilderness: for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart.
