1 Entendez la parole que le SEIGNEUR vous parle, ô maison d’Israël :

 1 Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:

2 Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : N’apprenez pas le chemin des païens, et ne soyez pas consternés des signes du ciel, parce que les païens en sont consternés.

 2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

3 Car les coutumes des peuples sont vaines : parce que quelqu’un coupe un arbre de la forêt, l’ouvrage des mains de l’ouvrier avec la hache ;

 3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.

4 On l’embellit avec de l’argent et de l’or ; on le fixe avec des clous et des marteaux, pour qu’il ne se déplace pas.

 4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

5 Ils sont tout droits comme un palmier, mais ils ne parlent pas, ils ont besoin d’être portés, parce qu’ils ne peuvent pas marcher. N’ayez pas peur ; car ils ne peuvent faire de mal, et aussi il n’est pas en leur pouvoir de faire du bien.

 5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

6 D’autant plus qu’il n’y a personne semblable à toi, ô SEIGNEUR ; tu es grand, et ton nom est grand en puissance.

 6 Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might.

7 Qui ne te craindrait, ô Roi des nations ? Car cela t’appartient ; d’autant qu’entre tous les plus sages hommes des nations et dans tous leurs royaumes, il n’y en a pas de semblable à toi.

 7 Who would not fear thee, O King of nations? for to thee doth it appertain: forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee.

8 Mais ils sont tous ensemble abrutis et insensés ; le bois est une doctrine de vanités.

 8 But they are altogether brutish and foolish: the stock is a doctrine of vanities.

9 L’argent plaqué en lames, est apporté de Tarshish (Tarsis), et l’or d’Uphaz ; l’ouvrage de l’artisan et des mains du fondeur ; le bleu et la pourpre sont leur vêtement ; ils sont tous l’ouvrage d’hommes habiles.

 9 Silver spread into plates is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the workman, and of the hands of the founder: blue and purple is their clothing: they are all the work of cunning men.

10 Mais le SEIGNEUR est le vrai Dieu ; il est le Dieu vivant et un roi éternel ; la terre sera ébranlée par sa colère, et les nations ne pourront supporter son indignation.

 10 But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation.

11 Ainsi leur direz vous : Les dieux qui n’ont pas fait les cieux et la terre, eux-mêmes, ils périront de dessus la terre, et de dessous ces cieux.

 11 Thus shall ye say unto them, The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens.

12 Il a fait la terre par son pouvoir, il a établi le monde par sa sagesse, il a étendu les cieux par son discernement.

 12 He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion.

13 Lorsqu’il fait retentir sa voix, il y a une multitude d’eaux dans les cieux, et il fait monter les vapeurs des bouts de la terre ; il fait les éclairs avec la pluie, et tire le vent de ses trésors.

 13 When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.

14 Tout homme est abruti dans sa connaissance, tout fondeur est décontenancé par son image taillée ; car son image fondue est tromperie, et il n’y a aucune respiration en elles.

 14 Every man is brutish in his knowledge: every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

15 Elles sont vanité, et l’ouvrage de désillusion ; elles périront au temps de leur visitation.

 15 They are vanity, and the work of errors: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

16 La portion de Jacob n’est pas comme elles ; car lui, a formé toutes les choses, et Israël est le bâton de son héritage ; le SEIGNEUR des armées est son nom.

 16 The portion of Jacob is not like them: for he is the former of all things; and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: The LORD of hosts is his name.

17 ¶ Rassemble et plie tes bagages hors du pays, ô habitante de la forteresse.

 17 ¶ Gather up thy wares out of the land, O inhabitant of the fortress.

18 Car ainsi dit le Seigneur : Voici, cette fois je vais jeter au loin les habitants du pays, et je les affligerai, afin qu’ils puissent le trouver ainsi.

 18 For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will sling out the inhabitants of the land at this once, and will distress them, that they may find it so.

19 ¶ Malheur à moi, à cause de mon mal ! Ma blessure est grave, mais j’ai dit : assurément, c’est une douleur qu’il faut que je porte.

 19 ¶ Woe is me for my hurt! my wound is grievous: but I said, Truly this is a grief, and I must bear it.

20 Mon tabernacle est dévasté, et tous mes cordages sont rompus ; mes enfants sont sortis d’auprès de moi, et ne sont plus ; il n’y a plus personne pour dresser ma tente, et pour placer mes tentures.

 20 My tabernacle is spoiled, and all my cords are broken: my children are gone forth of me, and they are not: there is none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.

21 Car les pasteurs sont abrutis, et n’ont pas cherché le SEIGNEUR c’est pourquoi ils n’ont pas prospéré, et tous leurs troupeaux seront dispersés.

 21 For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the LORD: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered.

22 Voici, le bourdonnement d’un bruit est arrivé, et une grande commotion du pays du Nord, pour faire des villes de Juda une dévastation, et un repaire de dragons.

 22 Behold, the noise of the bruit is come, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah desolate, and a den of dragons.

23 ¶ Ô SEIGNEUR, je sais que le chemin de l’homme n’est pas en lui, et ce n’est pas en l’homme qui marche, de diriger ses pas.

 23 ¶ O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.

24 Ô SEIGNEUR, corrige-moi, mais avec jugement ; non en ton courroux, de peur que tu ne me réduises à rien.

 24 O LORD, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.

25 Répands ta fureur sur les païens qui ne te connaissent pas, et sur les familles qui n’appellent pas ton nom car elles ont mangé Jacob, et l’ont dévoré, et l’ont consumé, et elles ont dévasté son habitation.

 25 Pour out thy fury upon the heathen that know thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name: for they have eaten up Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and have made his habitation desolate.
