1 Or ce sont ici les paroles de la lettre que Jeremiah (Jérémie) le prophète, envoya de Jérusalem au reste des anciens qui avaient été emmenés captifs, et aux prêtres, aux prophètes et à tout le peuple, que Nebuchadnezzar avait emmenés en captivité de Jérusalem à Babylone,

 1 Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away captives, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;

2 (Après que Jeconiah (Jeconia), le roi, ainsi que la reine, et les eunuques, les princes de Juda et de Jérusalem, les charpentiers et les forgerons, étaient partis de Jérusalem).

 2 (After that Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem;)

3 Par la main d’Elasah (Éleasa), le fils de Shaphan, et Gemariah (Guémaria), fils de Hilkiah, (lesquels Zedekiah (Sédécias), roi de Juda, envoyait à Babylone, vers Nebuchadnezzar, roi de Babylone ), disant :

 3 By the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon) saying,

4 Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR des armées, le Dieu d’Israël, à tous ceux qui sont emmenés captifs, que j’ai fait emmener de Jérusalem à Babylone :

 4 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon;

5 Bâtissez des maisons, et demeurez-y ; et plantez des jardins, et mangez-en les fruits ;

 5 Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;

6 Prenez des femmes, et engendrez des fils et des filles ; prenez des femmes pour vos fils et donnez des maris à vos filles, afin qu’elles enfantent des fils et des filles ; afin que vous vous multipliez là, et ne diminuez pas.

 6 Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.

7 Et cherchez la paix de la ville dans laquelle je vous ai transportés captifs, et priez le SEIGNEUR pour elle ; car dans sa paix vous aurez la paix.

 7 And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

8 ¶ Car ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR des armées, le Dieu d’Israël : Que vos prophètes et vos devins qui sont parmi vous ne vous trompent pas, et n’écoutez pas vos rêves que vous suscitez à rêver. pas vos rêves que vous suscitez à rêver.

 8 ¶ For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.

9 Car ils vous prophétisent faussement en mon nom. Je ne les ai pas envoyés, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 9 For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the LORD.

10 ¶ Car ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : Lorsque soixante-dix ans seront accomplis à Babylone, je vous visiterai, et j’accomplirai ma bonne parole envers vous, en vous faisant retourner en ce lieu.

 10 ¶ For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

11 Car je connais les pensées que je pense pour vous, dit le SEIGNEUR, pensées de paix et non de mal, pour vous donner une issue attendue.

 11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

12 Alors vous m’appèlerez, et vous partirez ; vous me prierez, et je vous écouterai.

 12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

13 Et vous me chercherez, et vous me trouverez ; car vous m’aurez recherché de tout votre cœur.

 13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

14 Je me ferai trouver de vous, dit le SEIGNEUR, et je renverrai vos captifs, et je vous rassemblerai de toutes les nations et de tous les lieux où je vous ai chassés, dit le SEIGNEUR, et je vous ferai revenir au lieu d’où je vous ai transportés captifs.

 14 And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

15 ¶ Cependant si vous dites : Le SEIGNEUR nous a suscité des prophètes à Babylone ;

 15 ¶ Because ye have said, The LORD hath raised us up prophets in Babylon;

16 Sachez qu’ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR du roi qui est assis sur le trône de David, et de tout le peuple qui demeure en cette ville, et de vos frères qui ne sont pas allés avec vous en captivité,

 16 Know that thus saith the LORD of the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwelleth in this city, and of your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;

17 Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR des armées : Voici, je m’en vais envoyer sur eux, l’épée, la famine et la pestilence, et je les ferai devenir comme ces figues infâmes, qu’on ne peut manger tant elles sont si mauvaises.

 17 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.

18 Et je les persécuterai avec l’épée, la famine et la pestilence ; et je les livrerai pour être déplacés vers tous les royaumes de la terre, et pour être une malédiction, et un étonnement, et un sifflement et un reproche parmi toutes les nations où je les aurai chassés ;

 18 And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, and an astonishment, and an hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them:

19 Parce qu’ils n’ont pas écouté mes paroles, dit le SEIGNEUR, que je leur ai envoyé mes serviteurs, les prophètes, en me levant tôt et les envoyant ; mais vous ne vouliez pas entendre, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 19 Because they have not hearkened to my words, saith the LORD, which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith the LORD.

20 ¶ Entendez donc la parole du SEIGNEUR, vous tous, de la captivité, que j’ai envoyés de Jérusalem à Babylone.

 20 ¶ Hear ye therefore the word of the LORD, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon:

21 Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR des armées, le Dieu d’Israël, sur Ahab (Achab), le fils de Kolaiah (Kolaïa), et sur Zedekiah (Sédécias), le fils de Maaseiah (Maascéïa), qui vous prophétisent le mensonge en mon nom : Voici, je m’en vais les livrer en la main de Nebuchadrezzar (Nebuchadnezzar), roi de Babylone, et il les tuera devant vos yeux.

 21 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, of Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, which prophesy a lie unto you in my name; Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes;

22 Et on prendra d’eux une malédiction, parmi toute la captivité de Juda qui sont à Babylone , disant : (Que) Le SEIGNEUR te fasse comme Zedekiah (Sédécias) et Ahab (Achab), que le roi de Babylone a fait grillés au feu :

 22 And of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Judah which are in Babylon, saying, The LORD make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;

23 Parce qu’ils ont commis l’infamie en Israël, et ont commis adultère avec les femmes de leurs voisins, et ont dit en mon nom des paroles mensongères que je ne leur avais pas commandées ; et je le sais, et j’en suis un témoin, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 23 Because they have committed villany in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbours’ wives, and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a witness, saith the LORD.

24 ¶ Et parle aussi à Shemaiah (Shemahia), le Nehelamite, disant :

 24 ¶ Thus shalt thou also speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,

25 Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR des armées, le Dieu d’Israël, disant : Parce que tu as envoyé en ton nom des lettres à tout le peuple qui est à Jérusalem, et à Zephaniah (Sophonie), fils de Maaseiah, le prêtre, et à tous les prêtres, disant :

25 Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

26 Le SEIGNEUR t’a établi prêtre à la place de Jehoiada (Jéhojada), le prêtre, afin que vous soyez officiers dans la maison du SEIGNEUR, sur tout homme qui est fou, et qui se fait prophète, pour que tu le mettes en prison et aux fers.

 26 The LORD hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks.

27 Et maintenant, pourquoi n’as-tu pas repris Jeremiah (Jérémie) d’Anathoth, qui se fait prophète envers vous ?

 27 Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himself a prophet to you?

28 Car à cause de cela il a envoyé vers nous, à Babylone, disant : Cette captivité sera longue ; bâtissez-vous des maisons, et demeurez dedans ; et plantez des jardins, et mangez-en les fruits.

 28 For therefore he sent unto us in Babylon, saying, This captivity is long: build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.

29 Et Zephaniah (Sophonie), le prêtre lut cette lettre aux oreilles de Jeremiah (Jérémie), le prophète.

 29 And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.

30 ¶ Et la parole du SEIGNEUR vint à Jeremiah (Jérémie), disant :

 30 ¶ Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,

31 Envoie à tous ceux de la captivité, disant : Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : au sujet de Shemaiah le Nehelamite : Parce que ce Shemaiah vous a prophétisé, quoique je ne l’aie pas envoyé, et qu’il vous a fait vous confier dans le mensonge ;

 31 Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith the LORD concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie:

32 C’est pourquoi, ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : Voici, je punirai Shemaiah le Nehelamite, et sa semence ; il n’aura pas un homme qui demeure parmi ce peuple ; et il ne contemplera pas le bien que je vais faire à mon peuple, dit le SEIGNEUR, parce qu’il a enseigné la rébellion contre le SEIGNEUR.

 32 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people, saith the LORD; because he hath taught rebellion against the LORD.
