1 Et Zedekiah (Sédécias), le fils de Josiah, régna à la place de Coniah, le fils de Jehoiakim, lequel Nebuchadnezzar, roi de Babylone, l’avait établi roi sur le pays de Juda .

 1 And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.

2 Mais ni lui, ni ses serviteurs, ni le peuple du pays n’écoutèrent les paroles du SEIGNEUR, lesquelles il avait prononcées par le prophète Jeremiah (Jérémie),.

 2 But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the LORD, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.

3 Et le roi Zedekiah (Sédécias) envoya Jehucal, le fils de Shelemiah et Zephaniah (Sophonie), le fils de Maaseiah, le prêtre, vers le prophète Jeremiah (Jérémie), disant : Intercède pour nous maintenant auprès du SEIGNEUR, notre Dieu.

 3 And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the LORD our God for us.

4 Or Jeremiah (Jérémie) allait et venait parmi le peuple, parce qu’on ne l’avait pas encore mis en prison.

 4 Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison.

5 Et l’armée de Pharaon était sortie d’Égypte, et quand les Chaldéens qui assiégeaient Jérusalem, en entendirent les nouvelles, ils se retirèrent de Jérusalem.

 5 Then Pharaoh’s army was come forth out of Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem.

6 ¶ Alors la parole du SEIGNEUR vint au prophète Jeremiah (Jérémie), en disant :

 6 ¶ Then came the word of the LORD unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying,

7 Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR, le Dieu d’Israël : Vous direz ainsi au roi de Juda, qui vous a envoyés vers moi pour m’interroger : Voici, l’armée de Pharaon, qui est sortie à votre secours, retournera dans son propre pays, en Égypte.

 7 Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.

8 Et les Chaldéens reviendront et combattront contre cette ville, et la prendront, et la brûleront par le feu.

 8 And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.

9 Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : Ne vous faites pas d’illusion, en disant : Les Chaldéens se retireront certainement de nous ; car ils ne se retireront pas.

 9 Thus saith the LORD; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.

10 Car même quand vous auriez frappé toute l’armée des Chaldéens qui combattent contre vous, et qu’il ne resterait parmi eux que des blessés, cependant ils se relèveront chaque homme dans sa tente, et brûleront cette ville par le feu.

 10 For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.

11 ¶ Or, il arrivera que, quand l’armée des Chaldéens se retira de Jérusalem, effrayée par l’armée de Pharaon,

 11 ¶ And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh’s army,

12 Alors Jeremiah (Jérémie) sortit de Jérusalem pour s’en aller dans le pays de Benjamin, pour se détacher de là parmi le peuple.

 12 Then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself thence in the midst of the people.

13 Mais lorsqu’il arriva à la porte de Benjamin, il y avait là un capitaine de la garde, dont le nom était Irijah, le fils de Shelemiah, fils de Hananiah, et il saisit Jeremiah (Jérémie), le prophète, disant : Tu vas te rendre aux Chaldéens !

 13 And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.

14 Et Jeremiah (Jérémie) répondit : C’est faux ! Je ne vais pas me rendre aux Chaldéens. Mais il ne l’écouta pas, et Irijah prit Jeremiah (Jérémie), et l’emmena aux princes.

 14 Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans. But he hearkened not to him: so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.

15 Alors les princes se mirent en colère contre Jeremiah (Jérémie), et le frappèrent et le mirent en prison dans la maison de Jonathan, le scribe ; car ils en avaient fait une prison.

 15 Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.

16 ¶ Lorsque Jeremiah (Jérémie) entra dans le donjon et dans les cachots, et Jeremiah (Jérémie) y resta beaucoup de jours.

 16 ¶ When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

17 Mais Zedekiah (Sédécias) le roi l’envoya chercher, et l’en tira ; et le roi et l’interrogea en secret dans sa maison, et lui dit : Y a-t-il quelque parole de la part du SEIGNEUR ? Et Jeremiah (Jérémie) dit : Il y en a une ; et lui dit : Il y en a une ; car, dit-il : Tu seras livré en la main du roi de Babylone.

 17 Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

18 De plus Jeremiah (Jérémie) dit au roi Zedekiah (Sédécias) : En quoi t’ai-je offensé, et tes serviteurs, et ce peuple, pour que vous m’ayez mis en prison ?

 18 Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?

19 Où sont maintenant vos prophètes qui vous prophétisaient, disant : Le roi de Babylone ne viendra pas contre vous, ni contre ce pays ?

 19 Where are now your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?

20 C’est pourquoi maintenant entend, je te prie, ô mon seigneur le roi : que ma supplication soit reçue devant toi, ne me fais pas retourner à la maison de Jonathan, le scribe, de peur que je n’y meure.

 20 Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.

21 Alors Zedekiah (Sédécias) le roi commanda qu’on garde Jeremiah (Jérémie) dans la cour de la prison, et qu’on lui donne chaque jour un morceau de pain de la rue des boulangers, jusqu’à ce que tout le pain de la ville soit consommé. Ainsi Jeremiah (Jérémie) resta dans la cour de la prison.

 21 Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers’ street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
