1 La parole qui vint à Jeremiah (Jérémie) de la part du SEIGNEUR après que Nebuzaradan, le capitaine des gardes, l’eut renvoyé de Ramah ; après l’avoir pris lorsqu’il était lié de chaînes parmi tous les captifs de Jérusalem et de Juda emmenait captifs à Babylone.

 1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all that were carried away captive of Jerusalem and Judah, which were carried away captive unto Babylon.

2 Et le capitaine des gardes prit Jeremiah (Jérémie), et lui dit le Seigneur ton Dieu a prononcé ce mal contre ce lieu ;

 2 And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said unto him, The LORD thy God hath pronounced this evil upon this place.

3 Et le SEIGNEUR l’a fait venir, et il a fait comme il avait dit, parce que vous avez péché contre le SEIGNEUR, et que vous n’avez pas obéi à sa voix, c’est pourquoi cette chose vous est arrivée.

 3 Now the LORD hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.

4 Et maintenant, voici, je te délie aujourd’hui des chaînes qui étaient sur ta main. S’il te semble bon de venir avec moi à Babylone, viens, et je prendrai bien soin de toi ; mais s’il te semble mauvais de venir avec moi à Babylone, abstiens-toi ; regarde, tout le pays est devant toi ; va où il te semble bon et convenable d’aller.

 4 And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thine hand. If it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well unto thee: but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon, forbear: behold, all the land is before thee: whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go.

5 Et comme il n’était pas encore retourné, il disait : Retourne donc, vers Gedaliah, le fils d’Ahikam, le fils de Shaphan, que le roi de Babylone a établi gouverneur sur les villes de Juda, et demeure avec lui parmi le peuple ; ou va partout où il te semble bon d’aller. Et le capitaine des gardes lui donna des vivres et un présent, et le renvoya..

 5 Now while he was not yet gone back, he said, Go back also to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people: or go wheresoever it seemeth convenient unto thee to go. So the captain of the guard gave him victuals and a reward, and let him go.

6 Jeremiah (Jérémie) alla donc vers Gedaliah, le fils d’Ahikam, à Mizpah (Mizpeh), et demeura avec lui au milieu du peuple qui était resté dans le pays.

 6 Then went Jeremiah unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and dwelt with him among the people that were left in the land.

7 ¶ Or tous les capitaines des forces militaires qui étaient dans les champs, savoir eux et leurs hommes, entendirent que le roi de Babylone avait établi Gedaliah, le fils d’Ahikam, gouverneur du pays, et qu’il lui avait commis hommes, femmes et enfants, et des pauvres du pays, de ceux qui n’avaient pas été transportés captifs à Babylone.

 7 ¶ Now when all the captains of the forces which were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed unto him men, and women, and children, and of the poor of the land, of them that were not carried away captive to Babylon;

8 Alors ils vinrent vers Gedaliah, à Mizpah (Mizpeh), savoir Ishmael (Ismaël), le fils de Nethaniah, Johanan et Jonathan, les fils de Kareah, et Seraiah, le fils de Tanhumeth, et les fils d’Ephai (Ephaï), le Netophathite, et Jezaniah, le fils du Maachahite, eux et leurs hommes.

 8 Then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their men.

9 Et Gedaliah, le fils d’Ahikam, le fils de Shaphan, leur jura, à eux et à leurs hommes, disant : Ne craignez pas de servir les Chaldéens ; demeurez dans le pays, et servez le roi de Babylone ; et tout ira bien pour vous.

 9 And Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan sware unto them and to their men, saying, Fear not to serve the Chaldeans: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.

10 Quant à moi, voici, je demeurerai à Mizpah (Mizpeh), pour servir les Chaldéens qui viendront vers nous ; mais vous, recueillez le vin, les fruits d’été et l’huile, mettez-les dans vos récipients, et demeurez dans les villes que vous avez prises.

 10 As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah to serve the Chaldeans, which will come unto us: but ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.

11 Pareillement quand tous les Juifs qui étaient au pays de Moab, et parmi les Ammonites et en Edom, et ceux qui étaient dans tous ces pays-là, entendirent que le roi de Babylone avait laissé un reste à Juda, et qu’il leur avait établi sur eux Gedaliah, le fils d’Ahikam, le fils de Shaphan,

 11 Likewise when all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan;

12 Tous les Juifs retournèrent de tous les lieux où ils avaient été chassés, et se allèrent dans le pays de Juda, vers Gedaliah, à Mizpah (Mizpeh) ; et ils recueillirent du vin et des fruits d’été en grande abondance.

 12 Even all the Jews returned out of all places whither they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, unto Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits very much.

13 ¶ De plus Johanan, le fils de Kareah, et tous les capitaines des forces militaires qui étaient dans les champs, à Mizpah (Mizpeh),

 13 ¶ Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were in the fields, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,

14 Et lui dirent : Tu dois certainement savoir que Baalis, le roi des Ammonites a envoyé Ishmael (Ismaël), le fils de Nethaniah, pour te tuer ? Mais Gedaliah, le fils d’Ahikam, ne les crut pas.

 14 And said unto him, Dost thou certainly know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites hath sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to slay thee? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam believed them not.

15 Alors Johanan, le fils de Kareah, parla en : secret à Gedaliah, à Mizpah (Mizpeh), disant : Laisse-moi, je te prie et je frapperai Ishmael (Ismaël), le fils de Nethaniah, et nul ne le saura ; pourquoi te tuerait-il, afin que tous les Juifs qui se sont rassemblés vers toi, soient dispersés, et que le reste de Juda périsse ?

 15 Then Johanan the son of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me go, I pray thee, and I will slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it: wherefore should he slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered unto thee should be scattered, and the remnant in Judah perish?

16 Mais Gedaliah, fils d’Ahikam, dit à Johanan, lr fils de Kareah : Tu ne feras pas cette chose, car tu parles faussement d’Ishmael (Ismaël).

 16 But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said unto Johanan the son of Kareah, Thou shalt not do this thing: for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.
