1 Alors tous les capitaines des forces militaires, et Johanan, le fils de Kareah, et Jezaniah, le fils de Hoshaiah, et tout le peuple, depuis le plus petit jusqu’au plus grand, s’approchèrent,

 1 Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near,

2 Et dirent à Jeremiah (Jérémie), le prophète : Que notre supplication, nous te supplions, soit acceptée devant toi et prie SEIGNEUR ton Dieu pour nous, c’est-à-dire pour tout ce reste, (car de beaucoup nous sommes restés en petit nombre, comme tes yeux nous voient).

 2 And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:)

3 Et que le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu nous montre le chemin par lequel nous devons marcher et ce que nous devons faire.

 3 That the LORD thy God may shew us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do.

4 Alors Jeremiah (Jérémie), le prophète, leur dit : Je vous ai entendu ; voici, je vais prier Le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu, selon vos paroles ; et il arrivera que, tout ce que le SEIGNEUR vous répondra, je vous le déclarerai ; je ne vous en cacherai rien.

 4 Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.

5 Et ils dirent à Jeremiah (Jérémie) : Que le SEIGNEUR soit un témoin véritable et fidèle entre nous, si nous ne faisons toutes les choses pour lesquelles le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu t’enverra vers nous.

 5 Then they said to Jeremiah, The LORD be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the LORD thy God shall send thee to us.

6 Que ce soit du bien ou que ce soit du mal, nous obéirons à la voix du SEIGNEUR, notre Dieu, vers qui nous t’envoyons, afin que tout soit bien avec nous quand nous aurons obéi à la voix du SEIGNEUR, notre Dieu.

 6 Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.

7 ¶ Et il arriva, au bout de dix jours, que la parole du SEIGNEUR vint à Jeremiah (Jérémie).

 7 ¶ And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah.

8 Il appela donc Johanan, le fils de Kareah, et tous capitaines des forces qui étaient avec lui, ainsi que tout le peuple, depuis le plus petit jusqu’au plus grand.

 8 Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces which were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,

9 Et il leur dit : Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR, le Dieu d’Israël, vers lequel vous m’avez envoyé pour présenter vos supplications devant lui

 9 And said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me to present your supplication before him;

10 Si vous continuez à demeurer dans ce pays, alors je vous y rebâtirai, et je ne vous abaisserai pas, et je vous planterai, et je ne vous arracherai pas ; car je me repens du mal que je vous ai fait.

 10 If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up: for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you.

11 N’ayez pas peur du roi de Babylone, dont vous avez peur ; n’ayez pas peur de lui, dit le SEIGNEUR, car je suis avec vous pour vous sauver et pour vous délivrer de sa main.

 11 Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

12 Je vous montrerai miséricordes, tellement qu’il aura miséricorde de vous et qu’il vous fera retourner dans votre pays.

 12 And I will shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.

13 ¶ Mais si vous dites : Nous ne demeurerons pas dans ce pays ; et n’obéiront pas à la voix du SEIGNEUR votre Dieu,

 13 ¶ But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land, neither obey the voice of the LORD your God,

14 En disant : Non ; mais nous irons dans le pays d’Égypte, où nous ne verrons pas de guerre, où nous n’entendrons pas le son de la trompette, où nous ne manquerons pas de pain, et là nous demeurerons ;

 14 Saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell:

15 À cause de cela, entendez maintenant la parole du SEIGNEUR, vous, reste de Juda : Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR des armées, le Dieu d’Israël : Si vous tournez vos visages résolument pour entrer en Égypte, et que vous y alliez pour y séjourner,

 15 And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye remnant of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;

16 Il arrivera alors que l’épée dont vous avez peur vous atteindra là, dans le pays d’Égypte, et la famine dont vous aviez peur vous suivra de près là en Égypte, et vous y mourrez

 16 Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye were afraid, shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.

17 Ainsi il arrivera que tous les hommes qui auront dressé leurs visages pour aller en Égypte, afin d’y séjourner, mourront par l’épée, par la famine et par la pestilence ; et aucun d’eux ne restera ni n’échappera devant le mal que je vais faire venir sur eux.

 17 So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.

18 Car ainsi a dit le SEIGNEUR des armées, le Dieu d’Israël : Comme mon courroux, et ma fureur ont été versés sur les habitants de Jérusalem, ainsi ma fureur sera versée sur vous quand vous entrerez en Égypte ; et vous serez une exécration et un étonnement, et une malédiction et un reproche ; et vous ne verrez plus ce lieu.

 18 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As mine anger and my fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.

19 ¶ Le SEIGNEUR a dit à votre sujet : Ô vous reste de Juda : N’allez pas en Égypte ; sachez certainement que je vous ai averti aujourd’hui.

 19 ¶ The LORD hath said concerning you, O ye remnant of Judah; Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have admonished you this day.

20 Car vous feigniez en vos cœurs, quand vous m’avez envoyé vers le SEIGNEUR, votre Dieu, en disant : Prie pour nous auprès du SEIGNEUR, notre Dieu, et selon tout ce que le SEIGNEUR notre Dieu, dira, ainsi déclare-nous, et nous le ferons.

 20 For ye dissembled in your hearts, when ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it.

21 Et je vous l’ai maintenant déclaré aujourd’hui ; mais vous n’avez pas obéi la voix du SEIGNEUR votre Dieu, ni aucune des choses pour lesquelles il m’a envoyé vers vous.

 21 And now I have this day declared it to you; but ye have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God, nor any thing for the which he hath sent me unto you.

22 Maintenant donc, sachez certainement que vous mourrez par l’épée, par la famine et par la pestilence, au lieu auquel vous avez désiré d’aller pour y séjourner.

 22 Now therefore know certainly that ye shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place whither ye desire to go and to sojourn.
