1 La parole que le SEIGNEUR dit contre Babylone, et contre le pays des Chaldéens, par Jeremiah (Jérémie), le prophète.

 1 The word that the LORD spake against Babylon and against the land of the Chaldeans by Jeremiah the prophet.

2 Déclarez parmi les nations, et publiez-le et levez l’étendard ; publiez, et ne le cachez pas ; dites : Babylone est prise ; Bel est décontenancé ; Merodach est brisé en morceaux ; ses idoles sont décontenancées, et ses faux dieux brisés en morceaux.

 2 Declare ye among the nations, and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and conceal not: say, Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.

3 Car du Nord une nation monte contre elle, qui mettra sa terre en désolation, et personne n’y demeurera ; hommes et bêtes seront ôtés, ils seront partis.

 3 For out of the north there cometh up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they shall remove, they shall depart, both man and beast.

4 ¶ En ces jours et en ce temps-là, dit le SEIGNEUR, les enfants d’Israël viendront ensemble ; allant et pleurant, ils iront et chercheront le SEIGNEUR, leur Dieu., eux et les enfants de Juda ensemble ; allant et pleurant, ils iront et chercheront le SEIGNEUR, leur Dieu.

 4 ¶ In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: they shall go, and seek the LORD their God.

5 Ils s’enquerront du chemin de Sion vers lequel leurs faces seront dressées, disant : Venez, et joignons-nous au SEIGNEUR, en une alliance perpétuelle laquelle ne sera jamais oubliée.

 5 They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces thitherward, saying, Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten.

6 Mon peuple a été comme des moutons perdus ; leurs bergers les ont fait égarer, ils les ont détournés sur les montagnes ; ils allaient de montagne en colline, ils ont oublié leur bercail.

 6 My people hath been lost sheep: their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their restingplace.

7 Tous ceux qui les ont trouvés les ont dévorés, et leurs ennemis disaient : Nous ne sommes pas coupables, parce qu’ils ont péché contre le SEIGNEUR, l’habitation de justice, c’est-à-dire le SEIGNEUR, l’espérance de leurs pères.

 7 All that found them have devoured them: and their adversaries said, We offend not, because they have sinned against the LORD, the habitation of justice, even the LORD, the hope of their fathers.

8 Ôtez-vous du milieu hors de Babylone, et sortez du pays des Chaldéens, et soyez comme les chèvres qui vont devant le troupeau

 8 Remove out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he goats before the flocks.

9 ¶ Car voici, je vais susciter et faire venir du pays du Nord, contre Babylone, une assemblée de grandes nations ; elles se déploieront contre elle, de là elle sera prise : Leurs flèches seront comme d’un expert homme puissant : aucune ne sera tirée en vain.

 9 ¶ For, lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country: and they shall set themselves in array against her; from thence she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of a mighty expert man; none shall return in vain.

10 Et la Chaldée sera mise au pillage ; tous ceux qui la pilleront seront rassasiés, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 10 And Chaldea shall be a spoil: all that spoil her shall be satisfied, saith the LORD.

11 Parce que vous vous êtes égayés, parce que vous vous êtes réjouis, ô vous dévastateurs de mon héritage, parce que vous vous êtes engraissés comme une génisse dans l’herbe, et que vous avez beuglé comme des taureaux ;

 11 Because ye were glad, because ye rejoiced, O ye destroyers of mine heritage, because ye are grown fat as the heifer at grass, and bellow as bulls;

12 Votre mère sera fort décontenancée, elle qui vous a enfantés sera honteuse ; voici, elle sera la dernière des nations : un désert, une terre sèche, et un lieu inhabité.

 12 Your mother shall be sore confounded; she that bare you shall be ashamed: behold, the hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.

13 À cause de la colère du SEIGNEUR, elle ne sera plus habitée, mais elle sera tout entière que désolation ; chaque personne qui passera près de Babylone sera stupéfiée, et sifflera à cause de toutes ses plaies.

 13 Because of the wrath of the LORD it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate: every one that goeth by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues.

14 Rangez-vous en bataille contre Babylone, tout autour, vous tous qui bandez l’arc, tirez sur elle, et n’épargnez pas les flèches ; car elle a péché contre le SEIGNEUR.

 14 Put yourselves in array against Babylon round about: all ye that bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows: for she hath sinned against the LORD.

15 Jetez des cris contre elle tout autour ; elle a donné sa main ; ses fondements sont tombés, ses murailles sont renversées ; car c’est la vengeance du SEIGNEUR : Vengez-vous sur elle ; faites-lui comme elle a fait.

 15 Shout against her round about: she hath given her hand: her foundations are fallen, her walls are thrown down: for it is the vengeance of the LORD: take vengeance upon her; as she hath done, do unto her.

16 Retranchez à Babylone le semeur, et celui qui tient la faucille au temps de la moisson ; par peur de l’épée de l’oppresseur ils retourneront chacun vers son peuple, et ils fuiront chacun vers son pays.

 16 Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him that handleth the sickle in the time of harvest: for fear of the oppressing sword they shall turn every one to his people, and they shall flee every one to his own land.

17 ¶ Israël est un mouton éparpillé, les lions l’ont chassé ; tout d’abord le roi d’Assyrie l’a dévoré ; et en dernier, Nebuchadrezzar (Nebuchadnezzar), roi de Babylone, a brisé ses os.

 17 ¶ Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria hath devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones.

18 C’est pourquoi, ainsi a dit le SEIGNEUR des armées, le Dieu d’Israël : Voici, je vais punir le roi de Babylone et son pays, comme j’ai puni le roi d’Assyrie.

 18 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.

19 Et je ramènerai Israël dans son habitation, et il se nourrira sur le Carmel et sur Bashan ; et son âme sera rassasiée sur le mont Ephraim (Éphraïm) et sur Gilead (Galaad).

 19 And I will bring Israel again to his habitation, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon mount Ephraim and Gilead.

20 En ces jours-là et en ce temps-là, dit le SEIGNEUR, on cherchera l’iniquité d’Israël, et il n’y en aura aucune ; et les péchés de Juda, et ils ne se trouveront pas ; car je pardonnerai ceux que je réserve.

 20 In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve.

21 ¶ Monte contre le pays de Merathaim (Merathaïm), contre lui, et contre les habitants de Pekod ; dévaste, et détruis entièrement après eux, dit le SEIGNEUR, et fais selon tout ce que je t’ai commandé.

 21 ¶ Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: waste and utterly destroy after them, saith the LORD, and do according to all that I have commanded thee.

22 Un cri de guerre est dans le pays, ainsi qu’une grande destruction.

 22 A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction.

23 Comme le marteau de toute la terre est rompu en deux et brisé ! Comme Babylone est devenue une désolation parmi les nations !

 23 How is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken! how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!

24 Je t’ai tendu un piège et tu es prise aussi, ô Babylone, et tu n’en savais rien ; tu as été trouvée, et même attrapée, parce que tu as lutté contre le SEIGNEUR.

 24 I have laid a snare for thee, and thou art also taken, O Babylon, and thou wast not aware: thou art found, and also caught, because thou hast striven against the LORD.

25 Le SEIGNEUR a ouvert son arsenal, et en a tiré les armes de son indignation ; car car c’est ici l’oeuvre du Seigneur DIEU dans le pays des Chaldéens.

 25 The LORD hath opened his armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons of his indignation: for this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans.

26 Venez contre elle de la frontière la plus lointaine ; ouvrez ses granges ; entassez-la en monceaux, et détruisez-la entièrement, qu’elle n’ait rien de reste

 26 Come against her from the utmost border, open her storehouses: cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly: let nothing of her be left.

27 Égorgez tous ses taureaux ; qu’ils descendent à l’abattoir : Malheur à eux ! car leur jour est venu, le temps de leur visitation.

 27 Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter: woe unto them! for their day is come, the time of their visitation.

28 La voix de ceux qui fuient, qui s’échappent du pays de Babylone, pour déclarer dans Sion la vengeance du SEIGNEUR, notre Dieu, la vengeance de son temple.

 28 The voice of them that flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance of his temple.

29 Convoquez les archers contre Babylone ; vous tous qui tirez de l’arc, campez contre elle tout autour ; que personne n’échappe ; rendez-lui selon son œuvre ; faites-lui selon tout ce qu’elle a fait ; car elle s’est montrée fière contre le SEIGNEUR, contre le Saint d’Israël.

 29 Call together the archers against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none thereof escape: recompense her according to her work; according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.

30 C’est pourquoi ses jeunes hommes tomberont dans ses rues, et tous ses hommes de guerre seront retranchés en ce jour-là, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 30 Therefore shall her young men fall in the streets, and all her men of war shall be cut off in that day, saith the LORD.

31 Voici, je suis contre toi, ô toi, la plus orgueilleuse, dit le SEIGNEUR des armées ; car ton jour est venu, le temps auquel je te visiterai.

 31 Behold, I am against thee, O thou most proud, saith the Lord GOD of hosts: for thy day is come, the time that I will visit thee.

32 Et la plus orgueilleuse trébuchera et tombera, et personne ne la relèvera ; et j’allumerai un feu en ses villes et il dévorera tout autour d’elle.

 32 And the most proud shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up: and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all round about him.

33 ¶ Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR des armées : Les enfants d’Israël et les enfants de Juda ont été ensemble opprimés ; et tous ceux qui les ont emmenés captifs les retiennent fermes, ils ont refusé de les laisser aller.

 33 ¶ Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The children of Israel and the children of Judah were oppressed together: and all that took them captives held them fast; they refused to let them go.

34 Leur Rédempteur est robuste ; le SEIGNEUR des armées est son nom ; il plaidera entièrement leur cause, afin qu’il donne le repos au pays et mette dans l’inquiétude les habitants de Babylone.

 34 Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is his name: he shall throughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

35 ¶ Une épée est sur les Chaldéens, dit le SEIGNEUR, et sur les habitants de Babylone , et sur ses princes et sur ses hommes sages.

 35 ¶ A sword is upon the Chaldeans, saith the LORD, and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men.

36 Une épée est sur ses menteurs ; et ils deviendront insensés ; une épée est sur ses vaillants hommes ; et ils en seront consternés.

 36 A sword is upon the liars; and they shall dote: a sword is upon her mighty men; and they shall be dismayed.

37 Une épée est sur ses chevaux, et sur ses chariots, et sur tout l’amalgame des peuples qui sont au milieu d’elle ; et ils deviendront comme des femmes ; une épée est sur ses trésors ; et ils seront volés.

 37 A sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the mingled people that are in the midst of her; and they shall become as women: a sword is upon her treasures; and they shall be robbed.

38 La sécheresse est sur ses eaux ; et elles tariront : car c’est le pays des images taillées, et ils sont fous de leurs idoles.

 38 A drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: for it is the land of graven images, and they are mad upon their idols.

39 C’est pourquoi les bêtes sauvages des lieux inhabités ainsi que les bêtes sauvages des îles y demeureront, et les hiboux y demeureront ; et elle ne sera plus jamais habitée, et on n’y demeurera plus de génération en génération..

 39 Therefore the wild beasts of the desert with the wild beasts of the islands shall dwell there, and the owls shall dwell therein: and it shall be no more inhabited for ever; neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation.

40 Comme dans la subversion que Dieu a faite de Sodome et de Gomorrhe et de ses villes voisines, dit le SEIGNEUR, ainsi personne n’y habitera et aucun fils d’homme n’y demeurera.

 40 As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour cities thereof, saith the LORD; so shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell therein.

41 Voici, un peuple viendra du Nord, et une grande nation et beaucoup de se lèveront des confins de la terre.

 41 Behold, a people shall come from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.

42 Ils prendront l’arc et la lance ; ils sont cruels et ne montreront pas de pitié ; leur voix grondera comme la mer ; et ils seront montés sur des chevaux, chacun d’eux déployé comme un homme pour la bataille, contre toi, ô fille de Babylone.

 42 They shall hold the bow and the lance: they are cruel, and will not shew mercy: their voice shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride upon horses, every one put in array, like a man to the battle, against thee, O daughter of Babylon.

43 Le roi de Babylone en a entendu le bruit, et ses mains sont devenues faibles ; l’angoisse l’a saisi, ainsi que des douleurs comme celles d’une femme en travail.

 43 The king of Babylon hath heard the report of them, and his hands waxed feeble: anguish took hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in travail.

44 Voici, il montera comme un lion à cause du débordement du Jourdain contre l’habitation du fort ; mais en un moment, je les ferai courir loin d’elle, et qui est l’homme choisi que j’assignerai sur elle ? Car qui est semblable à moi ? Et qui m’assignera le temps ? Et qui est le berger qui se tiendra devant moi ?

 44 Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan unto the habitation of the strong: but I will make them suddenly run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will appoint me the time? and who is that shepherd that will stand before me?

45 C’est pourquoi entendez le conseil du SEIGNEUR, qu’il a décrété contre Babylone, et les projets qu’il a projeté contre le pays des Chaldéens : Assurément les plus petits du troupeau les feront avancer ; assurément il réduira en désolation leurs habitations ainsi qu’eux.

 45 Therefore hear ye the counsel of the LORD, that he hath taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their habitation desolate with them.

46 Au bruit de la prise de Babylone, la est remuée, et le cri est entendu parmi les nations.

 46 At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations.
