1 Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : Je vais faire lever un vent destructeur contre Babylone, et contre ceux qui demeurent au milieu de ceux qui s’élèvent contre moi.

 1 Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in the midst of them that rise up against me, a destroying wind;

2 Et j’enverrai contre Babylone des vanneurs qui la vanneront, et qui videront son pays ; car ils seront contre elle de tous côtés, au jour de la détresse.

 2 And will send unto Babylon fanners, that shall fan her, and shall empty her land: for in the day of trouble they shall be against her round about.

3 Que l’archer bande son arc contre celui qui bande l’arc, et contre celui qui s’enorgueillit dans sa cotte de mailles, et n’épargnez pas ses jeunes hommes ; détruisez entièrement toute son armée ;

 3 Against him that bendeth let the archer bend his bow, and against him that lifteth himself up in his brigandine: and spare ye not her young men; destroy ye utterly all her host.

4 Ainsi les morts tomberont dans le pays des Chaldéens, et ceux qui sont transpercés à travers ses rues

 4 Thus the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and they that are thrust through in her streets.

5 Car Israël n’a pas été abandonné, ni Juda de leur Dieu, du SEIGNEUR des armées, quoique leur pays ait été rempli de péché devant le Seul Saint d’Israël.

 5 For Israel hath not been forsaken, nor Judah of his God, of the LORD of hosts; though their land was filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel.

6 Fuyez du milieu de Babylone, et que chacun délivre son âme ; ne soyez pas retranchés dans son iniquité : car c’est le temps de la vengeance du SEIGNEUR ; il lui rendra sa récompense.

 6 Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the LORD’S vengeance; he will render unto her a recompence.

7 Babylone a été une coupe d’or dans la main du SEIGNEUR, qui a rendu toute la terre ivre ; les nations ont bu de son vin, c’est pourquoi les nations sont devenues folles.

 7 Babylon hath been a golden cup in the LORD’S hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

8 Babylone est soudainement tombée et a été détruite ; hurlez sur elle ; prenez du baume pour sa douleur ; peut-être guérira-t-elle.

 8 Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: howl for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.

9 Nous aurions guéri Babylone, mais elle n’est pas guérie ; abandonnez-la ; et allons-nous-en, chacun dans son pays ; car son jugement atteint le ciel, et s’élève même jusqu’aux nues.

 9 We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country: for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.

10 Le SEIGNEUR a mis en évidence notre rectitude ; venez, et déclarons dans Sion l’œuvre du SEIGNEUR, notre Dieu.

 10 The LORD hath brought forth our righteousness: come, and let us declare in Zion the work of the LORD our God.

11 Fourbissez les flèches, assemblez les boucliers ; le SEIGNEUR a réveillé l’esprit des rois des Medes (Mèdes) : car sa pensée est contre Babylone, pour la détruire, parce que c’est ici la vengeance du SEIGNEUR, la vengeance de son temple.

 11 Make bright the arrows; gather the shields: the LORD hath raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes: for his device is against Babylon, to destroy it; because it is the vengeance of the LORD, the vengeance of his temple.

12 Élevez étendard sur les murailles de Babylone, renforcez la garde, placez les sentinelles ; préparez des embûches : Car le SEIGNEUR a projeté, fait ce qu’il a dit contre les habitants de Babylone.

 12 Set up the standard upon the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set up the watchmen, prepare the ambushes: for the LORD hath both devised and done that which he spake against the inhabitants of Babylon.

13 Ô toi qui es assise sur beaucoup d’eaux, abondante en trésors, ta fin est venue, ainsi que la mesure de ta convoitise.

 13 O thou that dwellest upon many waters, abundant in treasures, thine end is come, and the measure of thy covetousness.

14 Le SEIGNEUR des armées l’a juré par lui-même, en disant : Certainement je te remplirai d’hommes comme de chenilles, et ils pousseront un cri contre toi.

 14 The LORD of hosts hath sworn by himself, saying, Surely I will fill thee with men, as with caterpillers; and they shall lift up a shout against thee.

15 Il a fait la terre par sa puissance, il a établi le monde par sa sagesse, et a étendu le ciel par son intelligence.

 15 He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heaven by his understanding.

16 Quand il fait retentir sa voix, il y a une multitude d’eaux dans les cieux ; et il fait monter les vapeurs des bouts de la terre, il tourne les éclairs en pluie, et produit le vent hors de ses trésors.

 16 When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens; and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth: he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.

17 Tout homme est abruti par sa connaissance ; tout orfèvre est décontenancé par l’image taillée ; car son image fondue est mensonge, et il n’y a aucune respiration en elles.

 17 Every man is brutish by his knowledge; every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

18 Elles sont vanité, l’ouvrage de méprises : Elles périront, au temps de leur visitation.

 18 They are vanity, the work of errors: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

19 La portion de Jacob n’est pas comme elles ; car il est celui qui a formé toutes choses, et Israël est le bâton de son héritage ; le SEIGNEUR des armées est son nom.

 19 The portion of Jacob is not like them; for he is the former of all things: and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: the LORD of hosts is his name.

20 Tu es ma hache de bataille et mes armes de guerre : car avec toi je mettrai en pièces les nations, et avec toi je détruirai les royaumes.

 20 Thou art my battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms;

21 Et avec toi je mettrai en pièces le cheval et son cavalier ; et avec toi je mettrai en pièces le chariot et celui qui le monte.

 21 And with thee will I break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with thee will I break in pieces the chariot and his rider;

22 avec toi je mettrai aussi en pièces l’homme et la femme ; et avec toi je mettrai en pièces l’homme âgé et le jeune ; et avec toi je mettrai en pièces le jeune homme et la jeune fille.

 22 With thee also will I break in pieces man and woman; and with thee will I break in pieces old and young; and with thee will I break in pieces the young man and the maid;

23 Je mettrai aussi en pièces avec toi le berger et son troupeau ; et avec toi je mettrai en pièces le laboureur et son attelage ; et avec toi je mettrai en pièces capitaines et dirigeants.

 23 I will also break in pieces with thee the shepherd and his flock; and with thee will I break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee will I break in pieces captains and rulers.

24 Et je rendrai à Babylone et à tous les habitants de la Chaldea (Caldée), sous vos yeux, tout leur mal qu’ils ont fait dans Sion, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 24 And I will render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, saith the LORD.

25 Voici, je suis contre toi, dit le SEIGNEUR, ô montagne de destruction, qui détruis toute la terre ; et j’étendrai ma main sur toi, et je te roulerai du haut des rochers, et je ferai de toi une montagne brûlée.

 25 Behold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith the LORD, which destroyest all the earth: and I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and roll thee down from the rocks, and will make thee a burnt mountain.

26 Et on ne prendra de toi aucune pierre pour un coin, ni une pierre pour des fondements, mais tu seras réduite en désolation pour toujours, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 26 And they shall not take of thee a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but thou shalt be desolate for ever, saith the LORD.

27 Élevez un étendard dans le pays, sonnez de la trompette parmi les nations ; préparez les nations contre elle, appelez contre elle les royaumes d’Ararat, de Minni et d’Ashkénaz, assignez un capitaine contre elle ; faites monter les chevaux comme des chenilles au poil hérissé.

 27 Set ye up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz; appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough caterpillers.

28 Préparez contre elle des nations, les rois des Medes (Mèdes), ses capitaines, et tous ses dirigeants, et tout le pays de sa domination.

 28 Prepare against her the nations with the kings of the Medes, the captains thereof, and all the rulers thereof, and all the land of his dominion.

29 Et le pays tremblera, et sera dans la douleur ; car chaque projet du SEIGNEUR s’accomplira contre Babylone, pour réduire le pays de Babylone en désolation sans un habitant.

 29 And the land shall tremble and sorrow: for every purpose of the LORD shall be performed against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without an inhabitant.

30 Les hommes puissants de Babylone ont cessé de se battre, ils sont restés dans leurs forteresses ; leur puissance a manqué ; ils sont devenus comme des femmes ; on a brûlé ses demeures ; ses barres sont brisées.

 30 The mighty men of Babylon have forborn to fight, they have remained in their holds: their might hath failed; they became as women: they have burned her dwellingplaces; her bars are broken.

31 Un courrier viendra à la rencontre de l’autre, et un messager viendra à la rencontre de l’autre, pour annoncer au roi de Babylone, que sa ville est prise par un bout.

 31 One post shall run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to shew the king of Babylon that his city is taken at one end,

32 Et que les passages sont saisis, et que les roseaux sont brûlés par le feu, et que les hommes de guerre sont épouvantés.

 32 And that the passages are stopped, and the reeds they have burned with fire, and the men of war are affrighted.

33 Car ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR des armées, le Dieu d’Israël : La fille de Babylone est comme l’aire au temps où on la foule ; encore un peu, et le temps de la moisson sera venu.

 33 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; The daughter of Babylon is like a threshingfloor, it is time to thresh her: yet a little while, and the time of her harvest shall come.

34 Nebuchadrezzar (Nebuchadnezzar), le roi de Babylone , m’a dévorée, il m’a écrasée, il a fait de moi un vase vide ; il m’a avalée comme un dragon ; il a rempli son ventre de ce que j’avais de plus excellent ; il m’a chassée.

 34 Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon hath devoured me, he hath crushed me, he hath made me an empty vessel, he hath swallowed me up like a dragon, he hath filled his belly with my delicates, he hath cast me out.

35 La violence qui m’est faite, et à ma chair, soit sur Babylone, dira l’habitante de Sion ; et mon sang soit sur les habitants de la Chaldée, dira Jérusalem.

 35 The violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon, shall the inhabitant of Zion say; and my blood upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say.

36 C’est pourquoi, ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : Voici, je plaiderai ta cause, et ferai vengeance pour toi ; je dessécherai sa mer, et ferai tarir sa source.

 36 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will plead thy cause, and take vengeance for thee; and I will dry up her sea, and make her springs dry.

37 Et Babylone deviendra des monceaux, un repaire de dragons, un étonnement et un sifflement, sans aucun habitant.

 37 And Babylon shall become heaps, a dwellingplace for dragons, an astonishment, and an hissing, without an inhabitant.

38 Ils rugiront ensemble comme des lions, ils gronderont comme des lionceaux.

 38 They shall roar together like lions: they shall yell as lions’ whelps.

39 Je les ferai échauffer dans leurs festins, et je les enivrerai, afin qu’ils se réjouissent, et s’endorment d’un sommeil perpétuel, et ne se réveillent plus, dit le SEIGNEUR..

 39 In their heat I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the LORD.

40 Je les ferai descendre comme des agneaux à l’abattoir, et comme des béliers avec des boucs.

 40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with he goats.

41 Voyez Comment Sheshach est prise ! et comment la louange de toute la terre est surprise ! Comment Babylone est devenue un étonnement parmi les nations !

 41 How is Sheshach taken! and how is the praise of the whole earth surprised! how is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations!

42 La mer est montée sur Babylone ; elle est couverte par la multitude de ses flots.

 42 The sea is come up upon Babylon: she is covered with the multitude of the waves thereof.

43 Ses villes sont désolation, une terre sèche et un désert, une terre où aucun hommee demeure et où aucun fils d’homme ne passe par là..

 43 Her cities are a desolation, a dry land, and a wilderness, a land wherein no man dwelleth, neither doth any son of man pass thereby.

44 Et je punirai Bel à Babylone, et je ferai sortir de sa bouche ce qu’il a englouti, et les nations n’afflueront plus vers lui ; même la muraille même de tombera.

 44 And I will punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he hath swallowed up: and the nations shall not flow together any more unto him: yea, the wall of Babylon shall fall.

45 Mon peuple sortez du milieu d’elle, et que chacun délivre son âme de l’ardent courroux du SEIGNEUR

 45 My people, go ye out of the midst of her, and deliver ye every man his soul from the fierce anger of the LORD.

46 De peur que votre cœur ne faiblisse, et que vous n’ayez peur de la rumeur qui sera entendue dans le pays ; une rumeur viendra une année, et après cela une rumeur viendra une autre année,et la violence dans le pays, dirigeant contre dirigeant.

 46 And lest your heart faint, and ye fear for the rumour that shall be heard in the land; a rumour shall both come one year, and after that in another year shall come a rumour, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler.

47 C’est pourquoi, voici, les jours viennent où j’apporterai jugement sur les images taillées de Babylone ; et tout son pays sera décontenancé, et tous ses tués tomberont au milieu d’elle.

 47 Therefore, behold, the days come, that I will do judgment upon the graven images of Babylon: and her whole land shall be confounded, and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.

48 Alors le ciel, et la terre, et tout ce qui est en eux, chanteront sur Babylone, car les dévastateurs viendront du Nord contre elle, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 48 Then the heaven and the earth, and all that is therein, shall sing for Babylon: for the spoilers shall come unto her from the north, saith the LORD.

49 Comme Babylone a fait tomber les tués d’Israël, ainsi tomberont à Babylone les tués de toute la terre.

 49 As Babylon hath caused the slain of Israel to fall, so at Babylon shall fall the slain of all the earth.

50 Vous qui avez échappé à l’épée, partez, ne vous arrêtez pas ; de loin souvenez-vous du SEIGNEUR, et que Jérusalem vienne à votre pensée.

 50 Ye that have escaped the sword, go away, stand not still: remember the LORD afar off, and let Jerusalem come into your mind.

51 Nous sommes décontenancés, parce que nous avons entendu des reproches ; la honte a couvert nos visages, car des étrangers sont venus dans les sanctuaires de la maison du SEIGNEUR.

 51 We are confounded, because we have heard reproach: shame hath covered our faces: for strangers are come into the sanctuaries of the LORD’S house.

52 C’est pourquoi, voici les jours viennent, dit le SEIGNEUR où j’apporterai jugement sur ses images taillées, et à travers tout son pays, les blessés gémiront.

 52 Wherefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will do judgment upon her graven images: and through all her land the wounded shall groan.

53 Même si Babylone serait montée jusqu’au ciel, et même si elle aurait fortifié la hauteur de sa puissance, toutefois par moi, les dévastateurs y entreront, dit le SEIGNEUR

 53 Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall spoilers come unto her, saith the LORD.

54 Le son d’un cri vient de Babylone, et une grande destruction, du pays des Chaldéens.

 54 A sound of a cry cometh from Babylon, and great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans:

55 Parce que le SEIGNEUR a saccagé Babylone, et détruit du milieu d’elle la grande voix ; lorsque leurs flots mugiront comme de grandes eaux ; l’éclat de leur voix est proféré.

 55 Because the LORD hath spoiled Babylon, and destroyed out of her the great voice; when her waves do roar like great waters, a noise of their voice is uttered:

56 Parce que le dévastateur est venu sur elle, à savoir sur Babylone, et ses puissants hommes sont pris, et chacun a son arc brisé : car le SEIGNEUR Dieu des rétributions rendra certainement ce qui est dû.

 56 Because the spoiler is come upon her, even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, every one of their bows is broken: for the LORD God of recompences shall surely requite.

57 Et je rendrai ivres ses princes et ses hommes sages, ses capitaines, ses gouvernants et ses puissants hommes : et ils dormiront d’un sommeil perpétuel et ne se réveilleront pas, dit le Roi, dont le nom est le SEIGNEUR des armées.

 57 And I will make drunk her princes, and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men: and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.

58 Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR des armées : Les larges murailles de Babylone, seront entièrement détruites, et ses hautes portes seront brûlées par le feu ; ainsi les peuples auront travaillé en vain, et les gens à cause du feu, se lasseront.

 58 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the people shall labour in vain, and the folk in the fire, and they shall be weary.

59 ¶ La parole dont Jeremiah (Jérémie) le prophète commanda à Seraiah, le fils de Neriah, le fils de Maaseiah, quand il alla avec Zedekiah (Sédécias), le roi de Juda alla à Babylone, en la quatrième année de son règne. Or ce Seraiah était un prince paisible.

 59 ¶ The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah into Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. And this Seraiah was a quiet prince.

60 Ainsi Jeremiah (Jérémie) écrivit, dans un livre, tout le mal qui devait venir sur Babylone, c'est-à-dire toutes ces paroles qui sont écrites contre Babylone.

 60 So Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that should come upon Babylon, even all these words that are written against Babylon.

61 Et Jeremiah (Jérémie) dit à Seraiah : Quand tu seras arrivé à Babylone, tu verras et tu liras toutes ces paroles,

 61 And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When thou comest to Babylon, and shalt see, and shalt read all these words;

62 Et tu diras : Ô SEIGNEUR, tu as parlé contre ce lieu pour le retrancher, en sorte que personne n’y restera, ni homme ni bête, mais qu’il sera réduit en désolation pour toujours.

 62 Then shalt thou say, O LORD, thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate for ever.

63 Et il arrivera, lorsque tu auras achevé de lire ce livre, que tu y attacheras une pierre et tu le jetteras au milieu de l’Euphrate ;

 63 And it shall be, when thou hast made an end of reading this book, that thou shalt bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of Euphrates:

64 Et tu diras : Ainsi coulera Babylone, et elle ne se relèvera pas du mal que je vais faire venir sur elle ; et ils seront accablés ! Jusqu’ici sont les paroles de Jeremiah (Jérémie).

 64 And thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her: and they shall be weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.
