1 Alors donc Pilate prit Jésus, et le fouetta.

 1 Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.

2 Et les soldats tressèrent une couronne d’épines, et la posèrent sur sa tête, et lui mirent une robe pourpre,

 2 And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe,

3 Et disaient: Salut, Roi des Juifs! Et ils le frappaient avec leurs mains.

 3 And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.

4 Pilate donc sortit de nouveau et leur dit: Voici, je vous l’amène, afin que vous puissiez savoir que je ne trouve aucune faute en lui.

 4 Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him.

5 Puis Jésus sortit, portant la couronne d’épines et la robe pourpre. Et Pilate leur dit: Voici l’homme!

 5 Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!

6 Quand donc les principaux prêtres et les officiers le virent, ils s’écrièrent, disant: Crucifie-le, crucifie-le. Pilate leur dit: Prenez-le et crucifiez-le: car je ne trouve aucune faute en lui.

 6 When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.

7 Les Juifs lui répondirent: Nous avons une loi, et d’après notre loi il doit mourir, parce qu’il s’est fait le Fils de Dieu.

 7 The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.

8 ¶ Quand Pilate donc entendit ce propos, il eut encore plus peur;

 8 ¶ When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid;

9 Et il entra de nouveau dans la salle de jugement et dit à Jésus, D’où es-tu? Mais Jésus ne lui donna aucune réponse.

 9 And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.

10 Alors Pilate lui dit: Ne me parles-tu pas? Ne sais-tu pas que j’ai le pouvoir de te crucifier, et ai le pouvoir de te relâcher?

 10 Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?

11 Jésus répondit: Tu ne pourrais avoir aucun pouvoir contre moi, s’il ne t’était donné d’en haut: par conséquent celui qui m’a livré à toi, il a le plus grand péché.

 11 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.

12 Et désormais Pilate cherchait à le relâcher: mais les Juifs s’écriaient, disant: Si tu laisses cet homme partir, tu n’es pas l’ami de César: quiconque se fait roi parle contre César.

 12 And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Cæsar’s friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Cæsar.

13 ¶ Lorsque Pilate donc entendit ce propos, il fit sortir Jésus, et s’assit sur le siège de jugement dans un lieu appelé le Pavement, mais en hébreu Gabbatha.

 13 ¶ When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.

14 Et c’était la préparation de la pâque, et environ la sixième heure: et il dit aux Juifs, Voici votre Roi!

 14 And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!

15 Mais ils s’écrièrent: Ôte-le, Ôte-le, crucifie-le. Pilate leur dit: Crucifierai-je votre Roi? Les principaux prêtres répondirent: Nous n’avons pas d’autre roi que César.

 15 But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Cæsar.

16 Alors il le leur livra donc pour être crucifié. Et ils prirent Jésus et l’emmenèrent.

 16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.

17 Et lui portant sa croix, s’en alla à un lieu appelé le lieu du crâne, qui est appelé en hébreu Golgotha:

 17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:

18 Où ils le crucifièrent, et deux autres avec lui, un de chaque côté, et Jésus au milieu.

 18 Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.

19 ¶ Et Pilate écrivit un écriteau et le mit sur la croix. Et il était écrit, JÉSUS DE NAZARETH, LE ROI DES JUIFS.

 19 ¶ And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.

20 Cet écriteau fut alors lu par beaucoup de Juifs: car le lieu où Jésus était crucifié était près de la ville: et il était écrit en hébreu, et en grec, et en latin.

 20 This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.

21 Alors les principaux prêtres des Juifs dirent à Pilate: N’écris pas, Le Roi des Juifs; mais qu’il a dit, Je suis Roi des Juifs.

 21 Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.

22 Pilate répondit: Ce que j’ai écrit, j’ai écrit.

 22 Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.

23 ¶ Puis les soldats, lorsqu’ils eurent crucifié Jésus, prirent ses habits, et firent quatre parts, une part pour chaque soldat; et aussi son manteau: or le manteau était sans couture, tissé d’un bout à l’autre depuis le haut.

 23 ¶ Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.

24 Ils dirent donc entre eux: Ne le déchirons pas, mais tirons-le au sort, à qui il sera: afin que l’écriture puisse être réalisée, laquelle dit, Ils ont partagé mon habillement entre eux, et ils ont tiré au sort ma vesture. Les soldats firent donc ces choses.

 24 They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.

25 ¶ Or se tenaient près de la croix de Jésus, sa mère, et la sœur de sa mère, Marie, la femme de Cléopas, et Marie Magdeleine.

 25 ¶ Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.

26 Lorsque Jésus donc vit sa mère, et le disciple qu’il aimait se tenant là, il dit à sa mère: Femme, voici ton fils!

 26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

27 Puis il dit au disciple: Voilà ta mère! Et à partir de cette heure, ce disciple la prit dans sa propre maison.

 27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

28 ¶ Après cela, Jésus, sachant que toutes choses étaient maintenant accomplies, afin que l’écriture puisse être réalisée, dit: J’ai soif.

 28 ¶ After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

29 Or il y avait un récipient plein de vinaigre: et ils emplirent de vinaigre une éponge, et la mirent sur de l’hysope, et la mirent à sa bouche.

 29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.

30 Lorsque Jésus donc eut reçu le vinaigre, il dit: C’est fini: et il baissa sa tête, et rendit l’esprit.

 30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

31 Les Juifs donc, parce que c’était la préparation, afin que les corps ne restent pas sur la croix le jour du sabbat (car ce jour du sabbat était un grand jour), supplièrent Pilate que leurs jambes soient brisées, et qu’ils puissent être enlevés.

 31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

32 Alors les soldats vinrent et brisèrent les jambes du premier, et de l’autre qui était crucifié avec lui.

 32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.

33 Mais lorsqu’ils vinrent à Jésus, et virent qu’il était déjà mort, ils ne brisèrent pas ses jambes:

 33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:

34 Mais un des soldats perça son côté avec une lance, et tout de suite il en sortit du sang et de l’eau.

 34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.

35 Et celui qui l’a vu attesta, et son attestation est vraie: et il sait qu’il dit vrai, afin que vous puissiez croire.

 35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.

36 Car ces choses ont été faites afin que l’écriture soit réalisée, Pas un de ses os ne sera brisé.

 36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.

37 Et encore une autre écriture dit, Ils regarderont celui qu’ils ont percé.

 37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

38 ¶ Et après cela Joseph d’Arimathée, étant un disciple de Jésus, mais secrètement par crainte des Juifs, supplia Pilate afin qu’il puisse enlever le corps de Jésus: et Pilate le lui permit. Il vint donc et prit le corps de Jésus.

 38 ¶ And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.

39 Et Nicodème vint aussi, qui au commencement était venu à Jésus de nuit, et apporta un mélange de myrrhe et d’aloès, d’un poids d’environ cent livres.

 39 And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.

40 Puis ils prirent le corps de Jésus, et l’enveloppèrent de linges de lin, avec les aromates, selon la manière d’ensevelir des Juifs.

 40 Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.

41 Or il y avait au lieu où il avait été crucifié un jardin; et dans le jardin un sépulcre neuf, dans lequel personne encore n’avait été placé.

 41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.

42 Ils y placèrent donc Jésus à cause du jour de la préparation des Juifs; car le sépulcre était à portée de la main.

 42 There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews’ preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.
