1 Lorsque Jésus eut dit ces paroles, il alla avec ses disciples au-delà du ruisseau Cédron, où il y avait un jardin, dans lequel il entra, et ses disciples.

 1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.

2 Et Judas aussi, qui le trahissait, connaissait l’endroit: car Jésus s’y était souvent rendu avec ses disciples.

 2 And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.

3 Judas donc, ayant pris une bande d’hommes ainsi que des officiers des principaux prêtres et des Pharisiens, vient là avec des lanternes, et des torches et des armes.

 3 Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.

4 Jésus donc, sachant toutes choses qui devaient lui arriver, s’avança et leur dit: Qui cherchez-vous?

 4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?

5 Ils lui répondirent: Jésus de Nazareth. Jésus leur dit: Je le suis. Et Judas aussi, lequel le trahissait, se tenait avec eux.

 5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.

6 Dès qu’il leur eut dit, Je le suis, ils reculèrent et tombèrent à terre.

 6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.

7 Alors il leur demanda de nouveau: Qui cherchez-vous? Et ils dirent: Jésus de Nazareth.

 7 Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.

8 Jésus répondit: Je vous ai dit que je le suis: si donc vous me cherchez, laissez ceux-ci partir:

 8 Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:

9 Afin que le propos qu’il avait dit puisse être réalisé, Je n’ai perdu aucun de ceux que tu m’as donnés.

 9 That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none.

10 Alors Simon Pierre ayant une épée, la tira et en frappa le serviteur du grand prêtre, et coupa son oreille droite. Le nom du serviteur était Malchus.

 10 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.

11 Alors Jésus dit à Pierre, Remets ton épée dans le fourreau: la coupe que mon Père m’a donnée, ne la boirai-je pas?

 11 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?

12 Alors la bande et le capitaine et les officiers des Juifs prirent Jésus, et le lièrent,

 12 Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,

13 Et l’emmenèrent d’abord chez Anne; car il était le beau-père de Caïphe, lequel était le grand prêtre cette année-là.

 13 And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.

14 Or Caïphe était celui, qui avait donné conseil aux Juifs, qu’il était opportun qu’un seul homme meure pour le peuple.

 14 Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.

15 ¶ Et Simon Pierre suivait Jésus, ainsi qu’un autre disciple: ce disciple était connu du grand prêtre, et entra avec Jésus dans le palais du grand prêtre.

 15 ¶ And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.

16 Mais Pierre se tenait dehors à la porte. Alors l’autre disciple, qui était connu du grand prêtre, sortit et parla à celle qui gardait la porte, et fit entrer Pierre.

 16 But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.

17 Alors la jeune fille qui gardait la porte dit à Pierre, N’es-tu pas aussi un des disciples de cet homme? Il dit: Je n’en suis pas.

 17 Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples? He saith, I am not.

18 Et les serviteurs et les officiers se tenaient là, lesquels avaient fait un feu de charbon; car il faisait froid: et ils se chauffaient: et Pierre se tenait avec eux, et se chauffait.

 18 And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.

19 ¶ Le grand prêtre alors demanda à Jésus au sujet de ses disciples, et de sa doctrine.

 19 ¶ The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.

20 Jésus lui répondit: J’ai parlé ouvertement au monde; j’ai toujours enseigné dans la synagogue, et dans le temple, où les Juifs se rendent toujours; et en.secret je n’ai rien dit.

 20 Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.

21 Pourquoi m’interroges-tu? Interroge ceux qui m’ont entendu, sur ce que je leur ai dit: voici, ils savent ce que j’ai dit.

 21 Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.

22 Et lorsqu’il eut ainsi parlé, un des officiers qui se tenait là frappa Jésus avec la paume de sa main, disant: Réponds-tu ainsi au grand prêtre?

 22 And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?

23 Jésus lui répondit: Si j’ai mal parlé, rendu témoignage du mal: mais si j’ai bien parlé pourquoi me frappes-tu?

 23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?

24 Or Anne l’avait envoyé lié vers Caïphe le grand prêtre.

 24 Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.

25 Et Simon Pierre se tenait debout et se chauffait. Ils lui dirent donc: N’es-tu pas aussi un de ses disciples? Il le nia, et dit: Je n’en suis pas.

 25 And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.

26 L’un des serviteurs du grand prêtre, étant parent de celui à qui Pierre avait coupé l’oreille, dit: Ne t’ai-je pas vu dans le jardin avec lui?

 26 One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?

27 Alors Pierre nia encore: et immédiatement le coq chanta.

 27 Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.

28 ¶ Puis ils menèrent Jésus de chez Caïphe dans la salle de jugement: et il était tôt; et ils n’entrèrent pas eux-mêmes dans la salle de jugement, de peur qu’ils ne soient souillés; mais afin qu’ils puissent manger la pâque.

 28 ¶ Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.

29 Pilate donc sortit vers eux et dit: Quelle accusation portez-vous contre cet homme?

 29 Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?

30 Ils répondirent et lui dirent: S’il n’était pas un malfaiteur, nous ne te l’aurions pas livré.

 30 They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.

31 Alors Pilate leur dit: Prenez-le et jugez-le selon votre loi. Les Juifs donc lui dirent: il ne nous est pas permis de mettre un homme à mort:

 31 Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:

32 Afin que le propos de Jésus puisse être réalisée, lequel il avait dit, signifiant de quelle mort il devait mourir.

 32 That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die.

33 Alors Pilate entra de nouveau dans la salle de jugement, et appela Jésus, et lui dit: Es-tu le Roi des Juifs?

 33 Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?

34 Jésus lui répondit: Dis-tu cette chose de toi-même, ou d’autres te l’ont-ils dite de moi?

 34 Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?

35 Pilate répondit: Suis-je un Juif? Ta propre nation et les principaux prêtres t’ont livré à moi: qu’as-tu fait?

 35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?

36 Jésus répondit: Mon royaume n’est pas de ce monde: si mon royaume était de ce monde, alors mes serviteurs combattraient, afin que je ne sois pas livré aux Juifs: mais maintenant mon royaume n’est pas d’ici.

 36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

37 Pilate donc lui dit: Es-tu un roi alors? Jésus répondit: Tu dis que je suis un roi. Je suis né à cette fin, et pour ce motif je suis venu dans le monde, afin que je rende témoignage à la vérité. Quiconque est de la vérité entend ma voix.

 37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

38 Pilate lui dit: Qu’est-ce que la vérité? Et lorsqu’il eut dit cela, il sortit de nouveau vers les Juifs, et leur dit: Je ne trouve aucune faute en lui.

 38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.

39 Mais vous avez une coutume, que je vous relâche quelqu’un à la pâque: voulez-vous donc que je vous relâche le Roi des Juifs?

 39 But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?

40 Alors ils s’écrièrent tous à nouveau, disant: Non pas cet homme, mais Barabbas. Or Barabbas était un brigand.

 40 Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.
