1 Or après la mort de Moïse, le serviteur du SEIGNEUR, il arriva que le SEIGNEUR parla à Joshua (Josué), le fils de Nun, serviteur de Moïse, disant :

 1 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying,

2 Moïse, mon serviteur est mort ; maintenant donc lève-toi, passe ce Jourdain, toi et tout ce peuple, pour entrer dans la terre que je leur donne, savoir aux enfants d’Israël.

 2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.

3 Tout lieu que piétinera la plante de votre pied, je vous l’ai donné, comme je l’ai dit à Moïse.

 3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.

4 Votre territoire sera depuis le désert et ce Liban jusqu’au grand fleuve, le fleuve de l’Euphrate, tout le pays des Hittites (Héthiens), et jusqu’à la grande mer, vers où descend le soleil.

 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.

5 Il n’y aura personne qui sera capable de se tenir devant toi tous les jours de ta vie ; comme j’ai été avec Moïse, ainsi je serai avec toi ; je ne te laisserai pas, et je ne t’abandonnerai pas.

 5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

6 Sois fort et prends courage ; car tu départiras ce pays en héritage à ce peuple lequel j’ai juré à leurs pères de leur donner.

 6 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

7 Seulement sois fort et très courageux, afin que tu puisses observer et agir selon toute la loi que Moïse mon serviteur t’a commandée ; ne t’en détourne ni à main droite ni à gauche, afin que tu puisses prospérer partout où tu iras.

 7 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.

8 Ce livre de la loi ne partira pas de ta bouche, mais tu le méditeras jour et nuit, afin que tu puisses observer et agir selon tout ce qui y est écrit ; car alors tu rendras prospère ton chemin, et alors tu réussiras bien.

 8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

9 Ne te l’ai-je pas commandé ? Sois fort et prends courage ; n’aie pas peur, et ne sois pas intimidé, car le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu est avec toi, partout où tu iras.

 9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

10 ¶ Alors Joshua (Josué) commanda aux officiers du peuple, disant :

 10 ¶ Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,

11 Passez au milieu de l’armée, et commandez au peuple, disant : Préparez-vous des provisions ; car dans trois jours vous passerez ce Jourdain, pour aller posséder le pays que le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu vous donne afin que vous le possédiez.

 11 Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the LORD your God giveth you to possess it.

12 ¶ Et Joshua (Josué) parla aux Rubénites, et aux Gadites, et à la demi-tribu de Manasseh (Manassé), disant :

 12 ¶ And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying,

13 Souvenez-vous de la parole que Moïse, serviteur du SEIGNEUR vous a commandée, disant : Le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu vous a donné du repos, et vous a donné ce pays.

 13 Remember the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying, The LORD your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.

14 Vos femmes, vos petits enfants et votre bétail demeureront dans le pays que Moïse vous a donné, de ce côté du Jourdain ; mais vous, vous passerez en armes devant vos frères, tous les puissants et vaillants hommes, et vous les aiderez,

 14 Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them;

15 Jusqu’à ce que le SEIGNEUR ait donné du repos à vos frères comme il vous a donné, et qu’eux aussi possèdent le pays que le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu leur donne ; puis vous retournerez au pays de votre possession, et vous en jouirez, lequel Moïse, serviteur du SEIGNEUR, vous a donné, de ce côté du Jourdain, vers le soleil levant.

 15 Until the LORD have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the LORD your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the LORD’S servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.

16 ¶ Et Ils répondirent à Joshua (Josué), en disant : Tout ce que tu nous commandes, nous le ferons, et partout où tu nous enverras nous irons ;

 16 ¶ And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go.

17 Comme nous avons écouté Moïse en toute chose, ainsi nous t’écouterons ; seulement que le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu soit avec toi, comme il a été avec Moïse.

 17 According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the LORD thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.

18 Quiconque sera rebelle à ton commandement et n’écoutera pas tes paroles, en tout ce que tu nous commanderas, sera mis à mort ; seulement sois fort et prends courage.

 18 Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.
