1 Et Joshua (Josué) se leva de bon matin, et ils partirent de Shitim (Sittim), et vinrent jusqu’au Jourdain, lui et tous les enfants d’Israël, et ils y passèrent la nuit avant de le traverser.

 1 And Joshua rose early in the morning; and they removed from Shittim, and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over.

2 Et il arriva, au bout de trois jours, que les officiers passèrent au milieu de l’armée,

 2 And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the host;

3 Et ils commandèrent au peuple, en disant : Lorsque vous verrez l’arche de l’alliance du SEIGNEUR votre Dieu et les prêtres, les Lévites, la portant, alors vous quitterez votre lieu, et vous marcherez derrière elle.

 3 And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.

4 Toutefois, il y aura une distance entre vous et elle, de la mesure d’environ deux milles coudées ; n’en approchez pas, afin que vous puissiez connaître le chemin par lequel vous devez marcher ; car vous n’avez pas déjà passé par ce chemin.

 4 Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore.

5 Et Joshua (Josué) dit au peuple : Sanctifiez-vous ; car demain le SEIGNEUR fera des prodiges au milieu de vous.

 5 And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the LORD will do wonders among you.

6 Et Joshua (Josué) parla aux prêtres, en disant : Prenez l’arche de l’alliance, et passez devant le peuple. Et ils prirent l’arche de l’alliance, et allèrent devant le peuple.

 6 And Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.

7 ¶ Et le SEIGNEUR dit à Joshua (Josué) : Aujourd’hui je commencerai à te magnifier à la vue de tout Israël, afin qu’ils puissent savoir que, comme j’ai été avec Moïse, ainsi je serai avec toi.

 7 ¶ And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.

8 Tu commanderas donc aux prêtres qui portent l’arche de l’alliance, disant : Lorsque vous arriverez au bord des eaux du Jourdain, vous vous arrêterez dans le Jourdain.

 8 And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are come to the brink of the water of Jordan, ye shall stand still in Jordan.

9 ¶ Et Joshua (Josué) dit aux enfants d’Israël : Approchez-vous ici, et entendez les paroles du SEIGNEUR votre Dieu.

 9 ¶ And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, Come hither, and hear the words of the LORD your God.

10 Et Joshua (Josué) dit : À ceci vous saurez que le Dieu vivant est au milieu de vous, et qu’il ne manquera pas de chasser evant vous les Canaanites (Cananéens), les Hittites (Héthiens), les Hivites (Héviens), les Perizzites (Phéréziens), les Girgashites (Guirgasiens), les Amorites (Amoréens) et les Jebusites (Jébusiens).

 10 And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites.

11 Voici, l’arche de l’alliance du Seigneur de toute la terre va passer devant vous dans le Jourdain.

 11 Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passeth over before you into Jordan.

12 Maintenant donc, prenez douze hommes des tribus d’Israël, un homme par tribu ;

 12 Now therefore take you twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, out of every tribe a man.

13 Et il arrivera qu’aussitôt que les plantes des pieds des prêtres qui portent l’arche du SEIGNEUR, le Seigneur de toute la terre, se poseront dans les eaux du Jourdain, les eaux du Jourdain seront coupées des eaux qui descendent d’en haut, et elles s’arrêteront en une masse.

 13 And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an heap.

14 ¶ Et il arriva lorsque le peuple partit de ses tentes, pour passer le Jourdain, et les prêtres portant l’arche de l’alliance étaient devant le peuple ;

 14 ¶ And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people;

15 Et dès que ceux qui portaient l’arche furent arrivés au Jourdain, et que les pieds des prêtres qui portaient l’arche furent mouillés au bord de l’eau (car le Jourdain déborde sur toutes ses rives tout le temps de la moisson),

 15 And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)

16 Que les eaux qui descendaient d’en haut s’arrêtèrent, et s’élevèrent en une masse fort loin depuis la ville d’Adam, qui est à côté de Zaretan (Tsarthan) ; et celles qui descendaient vers la mer de la plaine, savoir la mer Salée, furent complètement coupées ; et le peuple passa en face de Jéricho.

 16 That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.

17 Et les prêtres qui portaient l’arche de l’alliance du SEIGNEUR s’arrêtèrent de pied ferme sur le sol sec, au milieu du Jourdain, et tous les Israélites passèrent sur le sol sec, jusqu’à ce que tout le peuple ait achevé de passer le Jourdain.

 17 And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.
