1 Et il arriva, quand tout le peuple ait achevé de passer le Jourdain, que le SEIGNEUR parla à Joshua (Josué), disant :

 1 And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over Jordan, that the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying,

2 Prenez parmi le peuple douze hommes, un homme par tribu,

 2 Take you twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man,

3 Et commandez-leur en disant : Prenez d’ici, du milieu du Jourdain, du lieu où les prêtres se sont arrêtés de pied ferme, douze pierres, et vous les emporterez avec vous et vous les laisserez dans le lieu de campement où vous passerez cette nuit.

 3 And command ye them, saying, Take you hence out of the midst of Jordan, out of the place where the priests’ feet stood firm, twelve stones, and ye shall carry them over with you, and leave them in the lodging place, where ye shall lodge this night.

4 Puis Joshua (Josué) appela les douze hommes qu’il avait choisis parmi les enfants d’Israël, un homme de chaque tribu,

 4 Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man:

5 Et Joshua (Josué) leur dit : Passez devant l’arche du SEIGNEUR votre Dieu, au milieu du Jourdain, et que chaque homme rprenne’une pierre sur son épaule, selon le nombre des tribus des enfants d’Israël ;

 5 And Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of Jordan, and take ye up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel:

6 Afin que cela soit un signe au milieu de vous, et quand vos enfants interrogeront à l’avenir leurs pères, en disant : Que voulez-vous dire par ces pierres ?

 6 That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?

7 Alors vous leur répondrez : Que les eaux du Jourdain furent coupées devant l’arche de l’alliance du SEIGNEUR, quand elle passa le Jourdain ; les eaux du Jourdain furent coupées ; et ces pierres seront un mémorial pour les enfants d’Israël à toujours.ccccccccc

 7 Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.

8 Et les enfants d’Israël firent donc ce que Joshua (Josué) avait commandé, et. Ils prirent douze pierres du milieu du Jourdain, comme le SEIGNEUR l’avait dit à Joshua (Josué), selon le nombre des tribus des enfants d’Israël, et les emportèrent avec eux au lieu où ils passèrent la nuit, et ils les posèrent là.

 8 And the children of Israel did so as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of Jordan, as the LORD spake unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.

9 Et Joshua (Josué) dressa douze pierres au milieu du Jourdain, à l’endroit où les pieds des prêtres qui portaient l’arche de l’alliance s’étaient tenues, et elles sont là jusqu’à ce jour.

 9 And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests which bare the ark of the covenant stood: and they are there unto this day.

10 ¶ Et les prêtres qui portaient l’arche se tinrent au milieu du Jourdain, jusqu’à ce que tout ce que le SEIGNEUR avait commandé à Joshua (Josué) de dire au peuple soit achevé, selon tout ce que Moïse avait commandé à Joshua (Josué) ; et le peuple se hâta de passer.

 10 ¶ For the priests which bare the ark stood in the midst of Jordan, until every thing was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua: and the people hasted and passed over.

11 Et il arriva, quand tout le peuple eut achevé de passer, que l’arche du SEIGNEUR passa ainsi que les prêtres, devant le peuple.

 11 And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over, that the ark of the LORD passed over, and the priests, in the presence of the people.

12 Et les enfants de Reuben (Ruben), les enfants de Gad, et la demi-tribu de Manasseh (Manassé) passèrent armés devant les enfants d’Israël, comme Moïse leur avait vdit ;

 12 And the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh, passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spake unto them:

13 Environ quarante mille hommes, équipés pour la guerre, passèrent devant le SEIGNEUR pour combattre, dans les plaines de Jéricho.

 13 About forty thousand prepared for war passed over before the LORD unto battle, to the plains of Jericho.

14 ¶ En ce jour-là, le SEIGNEUR magnifia Joshua (Josué) à la vue de tout Israël, et ils le craignirent comme ils avaient craint Moïse, tous les jours de sa vie.

 14 ¶ On that day the LORD magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.

15 Et le SEIGNEUR parla à Joshua (Josué), en disant :

 15 And the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying,

16 Commande aux prêtres qui portent l’arche du témoignage, qu’ils montent hors du Jourdain.

 16 Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of Jordan.

17 Joshua (Josué) donc commanda aux prêtres, disant : Montez hors du Jourdain.

 17 Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, Come ye up out of Jordan.

18 Et il arriva, lorsque les prêtres qui portaient l’arche de l’alliance du SEIGNEUR étaient en train de monter du milieu du Jourdain, et que la plante des pieds des prêtres se soulevèrent sur le sec, que les eaux du Jourdain retournèrent à leur place, et coulèrent par-dessus toutes ses rives, comme elles faisaient auparavant.

 18 And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before.

19 ¶ Et le peuple monta hors du Jourdain au dixième jour du premier mois, et campa à Gilgal (Guilgal), en la bordure est de Jéricho.

 19 ¶ And the people came up out of Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, in the east border of Jericho.

20 Et ces douze pierres qu’ils avaient prises du Jourdain, Joshua (Josué) les dressa à Gilgal (Guilgal).

 20 And those twelve stones, which they took out of Jordan, did Joshua pitch in Gilgal.

21 Et il parla aux enfants d’Israël, en disant : Quand à l’avenir vos enfants interrogeront leurs pères, disant : Que veulent dire ces pierres ?

 21 And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones?

22 Alors vous l’apprendrez à vos enfants, en disant : Israël a passé ce Jourdain à sec.

 22 Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.

23 Car le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu assécha les eaux du Jourdain devant vous, jusqu’à ce que vous ayez passés, comme le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu avait fait à la mer Rouge qu’il assécha devant nous, jusqu’à ce que nous soyons passés ;

 23 For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:

24 Afin que tous les peuples de la terre puissent savoir que la main du SEIGNEUR est puissante, afin que vous craigniez le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu à toujours.

 24 That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever.
