1 Et il arriva, longtemps après que le SEIGNEUR ait donné du repos à Israël de tous les ennemis qui l’entouraient, que Joshua (Josué) devint vieux et avancé en âge,

 1 And it came to pass a long time after that the LORD had given rest unto Israel from all their enemies round about, that Joshua waxed old and stricken in age.

2 Et Joshua (Josué) appela tout Israël, et ses anciens, et ses chefs, et ses juges et ses officiers, et leur dit : Je suis vieux et avancé en âge.

 2 And Joshua called for all Israel, and for their elders, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers, and said unto them, I am old and stricken in age:

3 Et vous avez vu tout ce que le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu a fait à toutes ces nations à cause de vous ; car le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu est celui qui a combattu pour vous.

 3 And ye have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto all these nations because of you; for the LORD your God is he that hath fought for you.

4 Voyez, je vous ai divisé par lot ces nations qui sont de reste, pour être un héritage selon vos tribus, depuis le Jourdain, avec toutes les nations que j’ai retranchées, même jusqu’à la grande mer, vers l’Ouest.

 4 Behold, I have divided unto you by lot these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even unto the great sea westward.

5 Et le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu les fera sortir et les chassera de devant vous ; et vous posséderez leur terre, comme le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu vous l’a promis.

 5 And the LORD your God, he shall expel them from before you, and drive them from out of your sight; and ye shall possess their land, as the LORD your God hath promised unto you.

6 Soyez donc très courageux pour garder et faire tout ce qui est écrit dans le livre de la loi de Moïse, afin que vous ne vous en détourniez ni à main droite ni à gauche,

 6 Be ye therefore very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefrom to the right hand or to the left;

7 Que vous n’ayez pas d’accointance avec ces nations qui restent parmi vous ; que vous ne fassiez pas non plus mention du nom de leurs dieux ; que vous ne fassiez pas jurer par eux ; que vous ne les serviez pas non plus et ne vous inclinez pas devant eux.

 7 That ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow yourselves unto them:

8 Mais attachez-vous au SEIGNEUR votre Dieu, comme vous l’avez fait jusqu’à ce jour.

 8 But cleave unto the LORD your God, as ye have done unto this day.

9 Car le SEIGNEUR a dépossédé devant vous des nations grandes et fortes ; mais quant à vous, personne n’a pu se tenir devant vous jusqu’à ce jour.

 9 For the LORD hath driven out from before you great nations and strong: but as for you, no man hath been able to stand before you unto this day.

10 Un seul homme d’entre vous en poursuivra un millier ; car le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu est celui qui combat pour vous, comme il vous l’a promis.

 10 One man of you shall chase a thousand: for the LORD your God, he it is that fighteth for you, as he hath promised you.

11 Prenez donc bien garde à vous-mêmes, que vous aimiez le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu.

 11 Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye love the LORD your God.

12 Autrement si vous reculez en n’importe quelle manière et si vous vous attachiez au reste de ces nations, savoir, celles qui sont de reste parmi vous, et que vous vous alliez par mariage avec elles, et que vous ayez accointance avec elles, et elles avec vous,

 12 Else if ye do in any wise go back, and cleave unto the remnant of these nations, even these that remain among you, and shall make marriages with them, and go in unto them, and they to you:

13 Sachez avec certitude que le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu ne continuera plus à déposséder aucune de ces nations devant vous ; mais elles seront pour vous un filet et un piège, un fouet dans vos côtés et des épines dans vos yeux, jusqu’à ce que vous périssiez de dessus cette bonne terre que le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu vous a donnée.

 13 Know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive out any of these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you.

14 Et voici, aujourd’hui je m’en vais par le chemin de toute la terre ; et vous savez de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme, que pas une seule chose ne manqua d’arriver de toutes les bonnes choses que le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu a prononcées vous concernant ; tout vous est arrivé, et pas une seule chose n’a manqué d’arriver.

 14 And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof.

15 C’est pourquoi il arrivera que, comme toutes les bonnes choses lesque le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu vous avait promises vous sont arrivées, ainsi le SEIGNEUR fera venir sur vous toutes les mauvaises choses, jusqu’à ce qu’il vous ait détruits de dessus cette bonne terre que le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu vous a donnée.

 15 Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all good things are come upon you, which the LORD your God promised you; so shall the LORD bring upon you all evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you.

16 Quand vous aurez transgressé l’alliance du SEIGNEUR votre Dieu, qu’il vous a commandée, et que vous serez allé servir d’autres dieux et que vous vous serez inclinés devant eux, alors le courroux du SEIGNEUR s’enflammera contre vous, et vous périrez rapidement de dessus cette bonne terre qu’il vous a donnée.

 16 When ye have transgressed the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed yourselves to them; then shall the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto you.
