1 Or après la mort de Joshua (Josué), il arriva que les enfants d'Israël consultèrent le SEIGNEUR, en disant : Qui de nous montera le premier contre les Canaanites (Cananéens), pour se battre contre eux ?

 1 Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

2 Et le SEIGNEUR répondit : Judah (Juda) montera, voici, j'ai livré le pays en sa main.

 2 And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

3 Et Judah (Juda) dit à Siméon, son frère : Monte avec moi dans mon lot, afin que nous puissions nous battre contre les Canaanites (Cananéens) ; et j'irai de même avec toi dans ton lot. Ainsi Siméon alla avec lui.

 3 And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.

4 Et Judah (Juda) monta, et le SEIGNEUR livra les Canaanites (Cananéens), et les Perizzites (Phérésiens) en leur main ; et ils tuèrent à Bezek dix mille hommes.

 4 And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.

5 Et ils trouvèrent Adonibezek à Bezek ; et ils combattirent contre lui, et ils tuèrent les Canaanites (Cananéens), et les Perizzites (Phérésiens).

 5 And they found Adonibezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

6 Mais Adonibezek prit la fuite ; et ils le poursuivirent et le saisirent, et ils lui coupèrent les pouces des mains et des pieds.

 6 But Adonibezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.

7 Et Adonibezek dit : Soixante-dix rois, ayant les pouces des mains et des pieds coupés, ramassaient leur nourriture sous ma table ; ainsi Dieu m’a rendu comme j'ai fait. Et on l’amena à Jérusalem, et là, il mourut.

 7 And Adonibezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

8 Or les enfants de Judah (Juda) combattirent contre Jérusalem et l’avaient prise, et frappée au tranchant de l’épée et mis la ville en feu.

 8 Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.

9 ¶ Et ensuite les enfants de Judah (Juda) descendirent pour se battre contre les Canaanites (Cananéens), qui demeuraient dans la montagne, et dans le sud et dans la vallée.

 9 ¶ And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.

10 Et Judah (Juda) marcha contre les Canaanites (Cananéens), qui demeuraient à Hebron, (or le nom de Hebron était auparavant Kirjatharba (Kirjath-Arba), et ils tuèrent Sheshai, Ahiman (Akhiman) , et Talmai (Thalmaï).

 10 And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

11 Et de là, il alla contre les habitants de Debir et le nom de Debir était auparavant Kirjathsepher (Kirjath-Sépher).

 11 And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjathsepher:

12 Et Caleb dit : Celui qui frappera Kirjathsepher (Kirjath-Sépher). et la prendra, je lui donnerai ma fille Achsah (Acsa) pour femme.

 12 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.

13 Et Othniel le fils de Kenaz, frère cadet de Caleb, a prit ; et il lui donna sa fille Achsah (Acsa) pour femme.

 13 And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

14 Et il arriva que, comme elle venait vers lui, elle le poussa à demander à son père un champ ; et elle descendit impétueusement de son âne ; et Caleb lui dit : Qu'as-tu ?

 14 And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou?

15 Et elle lui dit : Donne-moi une bénédiction ; car tu m'as donné une terre au sud ; donne-moi aussi des sources d'eau. Et Caleb lui donna les sources supérieures et les sources inférieures.

 15 And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.

16 ¶ Et les enfants du Kenite (Kénien), beau-père de Moïse, montèrent de la ville des palmiers, avec les enfants de Judah (Juda), dans le désert de Judah (Juda), qui est situé au sud d'Arad, et ils allèrent et demeurèrent parmi le peuple.

 16 ¶ And the children of the Kenite, Moses’ father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.

17 Et Judah (Juda) alla avec Siméon, son frère, et ils tuèrent les Canaanites (Cananéens), qui habitaient à Zephath (Tsephath), et la détruisirent entièrement. Et on appela la ville Hormah.

 17 And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.

18 Et Judah (Juda) prit Gaza et son territoire, Ashkelon (Askalon) et son territoire, et Ekron et son territoire.

 18 Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.

19 Et le SEIGNEUR était avec Judah (Juda) ; et il chassa les habitants de la montagne, mais il ne put chasser les habitants de la vallée, parce qu'ils avaient des chariots de fer.

 19 And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.

20 Et on donna Hebron à Caleb, comme Moïse l’avait dit ; et il en expulsa les trois fils d'Anak.

 20 And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.

21 Et les enfants de Benjamin ne chassèrent pas les Jebusites (Jébusiens) qui habitaient à Jérusalem ; c’est pourquoi les Jebusites (Jébusiens) demeurent avec les enfants de Benjamin dans Jérusalem jusqu'à ce jour.

 21 And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.

22 ¶ Et la maison de Joseph, eux aussi montèrent contre Bethel, et le SEIGNEUR était avec eux.

 22 ¶ And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel: and the LORD was with them.

23 Et la maison de Joseph fit reconnaître Bethel. (Or le nom était auparavant Luz).

 23 And the house of Joseph sent to descry Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)

24 Et les espions virent un homme qui sortait de la ville, et ils lui dirent : Montre-nous, nous te prions, l’entrée de la ville, et nous te montrerons notre reconnaissance.

 24 And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy.

25 Et il leur montra l’entrée de la ville, et ils frappèrent la ville du tranchant de l’épée ; mais ils laissèrent aller l’homme et toute sa famille.

 25 And when he shewed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.

26 Et l’homme alla dans le pays des Hittites (Héthiens), et bâtit une ville, et l’appela du nom de Luz, qui est son nom jusqu'à ce jour.

 26 And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.

27 ¶ Manasseh (Manassé) ne chassa pas les habitants de Bethshean ni les villes de son ressort, ni Taanach et les villes de son ressort, ni les habitants de Dor et les villes de son ressort, ni les habitants de Ibleam et les villes de son ressort, ni les habitants de Megido (Méguiddo) et les villes de son ressort ; les Canaanites (Cananéens), voulurent demeurer dans ce pays.

 27 ¶ Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Bethshean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

28 Et il arriva lorsqu’Israël fut devenu fort, qu’il rendit les Canaanites (Cananéens), tributaires, mais il ne les chassa pas entièrement.

 28 And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.

29 ¶ Ephraim (Éphraïm) non plus ne chassa pas les Canaanites (Cananéens), qui habitaient à Gezer (Guézer), mais les Canaanites (Cananéens), demeurèrent parmi eux à Gezer (Guézer).

 29 ¶ Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.

30 ¶ Zebulon (Zabulon) non plus ne chassa pas les habitants de Kitron, ni les habitants de Nahalol ; mais les Canaanites (Cananéens), demeurèrent parmi eux, et lui furent tributaires.

 30 ¶ Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.

31 ¶ Asher (Asser) non plus ne chassa pas les habitants d'Accho (Acco), ni les habitants de Sidon, ni d’Ahlab (Akhlab), ni d' Achzib, ni d’Helbah, ni d' Aphik et ni de Rehob ;

 31 ¶ Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:

32 Mais les Asherites (Asserites) demeurèrent parmi les Canaanites (Cananéens), , les habitants du pays, car ils ne les chassèrent pas.

 32 But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.

33 ¶ Naphtali (Nephtali) non plus ne chassa pas les habitants de Bethshemesh, ni les habitants de Bethanath, mais il demeura parmi les Canaanites (Cananéens), les habitants du pays, néanmoins les habitants de Bethshemesh et de Bethanath lui devinrent tributaires.

 33 ¶ Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Bethshemesh, nor the inhabitants of Bethanath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Bethshemesh and of Bethanath became tributaries unto them.

34 Et les Amorites (Amoréens) repoussèrent dans la montagne les enfants de Dan, et ne les laissèrent pas descendre dans la vallée.

 34 And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:

35 C’est pourquoi les Amorites voulurent demeurer dans la montagne de Heres, à Aijalon et à Schaalbim ; toutefois la main de la maison de Joseph prévalut, si bien qu’ils furent rendus tributaires.

 35 But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.

36 Et le territoire des Amorites était depuis la montée d'Akrabbim, depuis le roc et au-dessus.

 36 And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
