1 Et un ange du SEIGNEUR monta de Gilgal (Guilgal) à Bochim (Bokim) ; et dit : Je vous ai fait monter d'Égypte, et je vous ai amenés dans le pays que j'avais juré à vos pères, et j'ai dit : Je ne romprai jamais mon alliance avec vous ;

1 And an angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.
|
2 Et vous ne formerez pas de ligue avec les habitants de ce pays, vous démolirez leurs autels ; mais vous n'avez pas obéi à ma voix. Pourquoi avez-vous fait cela ?
|
2 And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?
|
3 C’est pourquoi aussi j'ai dit : Je ne les chasserai pas de devant vous ; mais ils seront comme des épines à vos côtés, et leurs dieux vous seront un piège.
|
3 Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.
|
4 Et il arriva lorsque l’ange du SEIGNEUR disait ces paroles à tous les enfants d'Israël, que le peuple éleva sa voix et pleura.
|
4 And it came to pass, when the angel of the LORD spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.
|
5 Et ils appelèrent le nom de ce lieu-là Bochim (Bokim) ; et ils sacrifièrent là au SEIGNEUR.
|
5 And they called the name of that place Bochim: and they sacrificed there unto the LORD.
|
6 ¶Et lorsque Joshua (Josué) renvoya le peuple, les enfants d'Israël s'en allèrent chacun à son héritage pour posséder le pays.
|
6 ¶ And when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land.
|
7 Et le peuple servit le SEIGNEUR tous les jours de Joshua (Josué), et tous les jours des anciens qui survécurent à Joshua (Josué), qui avaient vu toutes les grandes œuvres du SEIGNEUR, qu'il avait faites pour Israël.
|
7 And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel.
|
8 Et Joshua (Josué), le fils de Nun, le serviteur du SEIGNEUR, mourut, étant âgé de cent dix ans.
|
8 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.
|
9 Et on l’enterra dans le territoire de son héritage, à Timnathheres, sur le mont Ephraim (Éphraïm), sur le côté nord de la colline de Gaash.
|
9 And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathheres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash.
|
10 Et toute cette génération fut aussi recueillie vers ses pères ; et après eux, se leva une autre génération qui ne connaissait pas le SEIGNEUR, ni les œuvres qu'il avait faites pour Israël.
|
10 And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.
|
11 ¶ Les enfants d’Israël firent alors ce qui est mal à la vue du SEIGNEUR, et servirent les Baalim.
|
11 ¶ And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim:
|
12 Et ils abandonnèrent le SEIGNEUR Dieu de leurs pères, qui les avait fait sortir du pays d’Égypte, et suivirent d’autres dieux, d’entre les dieux des peuples qui étaient autour d’eux, et s’inclinèrent devant eux, et provoquèrent le SEIGNEUR à courroux.
|
12 And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger.
|
13 Et ils abandonnèrent le SEIGNEUR, et servirent Baal et Ashtaroth.
|
13 And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.
|
14 ¶ Et le courroux du SEIGNEUR s’embrasa contre Israël, et il les livra entre les mains de pillards qui les pillèrent, et il les vendit entre les mains de leurs ennemis d’alentour, de sorte qu’ils ne purent plus se tenir devant leurs ennemis.
|
14 ¶ And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.
|
15 Partout où ils allaient, la main du SEIGNEUR était contre eux en mal, comme le SEIGNEUR l’avait dit, et comme le SEIGNEUR le leur avait juré ; et ils furent grandement affligés.
|
15 Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had said, and as the LORD had sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed.
|
16 ¶ Cependant le SEIGNEUR leur suscitait des juges, qui les délivraient de la main de ceux qui les pillaient.
|
16 ¶ Nevertheless the LORD raised up judges, which delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiled them.
|
17 Mais ils ne voulaient pas même écouter leurs juges, et ils se prostituaient après d’autres dieux, et s’inclinaient devant eux ; ils se détournaient promptement du chemin où leurs pères avaient marché en obéissant aux commandements du SEIGNEUR ; mais ils ne firent pas ainsi.

17 And yet they would not hearken unto their judges, but they went a whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the LORD; but they did not so.
|
18 Et quand le SEIGNEUR leur suscitait des juges, le SEIGNEUR alors était avec le juge, et les délivrait de la main de leurs ennemis pendant tous les jours du juge ; car le SEIGNEUR se repentait, à cause de leurs gémissements en raison de ceux qui les opprimaient et qui les tourmentaient.
|
18 And when the LORD raised them up judges, then the LORD was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented the LORD because of their groanings by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.
|
19 Et il arrivait, lorsque le juge mourait, qu’ils retournaient et se corrompaient de nouveau plus que leurs pères, en suivant d’autres dieux pour les servir et s’incliner devant eux ; ils ne diminuaient rien de leurs actions, ni de leur chemin conduite obstiné.
|
19 And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubborn way.
|
20 ¶ Et le courroux du SEIGNEUR s’embrasa contre Israël, et il dit : Puisque ce peuple a transgressé mon alliance que j’avais commandée à leurs pères, et qu’ils n’ont pas écouté ma voix,
|
20 ¶ And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice;
|
21 Mois aussi je ne chasserai plus devant eux aucune des nations que Joshua (Josué) laissa quand il mourut ;
|
21 I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:
|
22 Afin que par elles je puisse éprouver Israël, et voir s’ils garderont, ou non, le chemin du SEIGNEUR pour y marcher, comme leurs pères l’ont gardé.
|
22 That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.
|
23 C’est pourquoi le SEIGNEUR laissa ces nations-là, sans se hâter de les chasser ; il ne les livra pas non plus en la main de Joshua (Josué).
|
23 Therefore the LORD left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.
