1 Et Samson descendit à Timnath ; et il vit à Timnath une femme d'entre les filles des Philistins.

 1 And Samson went down to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines.

2 Et il remonta et le raconta à son père et à sa mère, et dit : J'ai vu à Timnath une femme d'entre les filles des Philistins ; maintenant donc, prenez-la afin qu’elle soit ma femme.

 2 And he came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for me to wife.

3 Alors son père et sa mère lui dirent : N'y a-t-il pas une femme parmi les filles de tes frères, ou parmi tout mon peuple, que tu ailles prendre une femme parmi les Philistins incirconcis ? Et Samson dit à son père : Prends celle-là pour moi, car elle me plaît bien.

 3 Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.

4 Or son père et sa mère ne savaient pas que cela venait du SEIGNEUR ; car il Samson cherchait une occasion de dispute contre les Philistins. Or en ce temps-là les Philistins dominaient sur Israël.

 4 But his father and his mother knew not that it was of the LORD, that he sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel.

5 ¶ Alors Samson descendit à Timnath avec son père et sa mère ; et ils arrivèrent jusqu'aux vignes de Timnath. Et voici, un jeune lion rugissant vint contre lui.

 5 ¶ Then went Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Timnath, and came to the vineyards of Timnath: and, behold, a young lion roared against him.

6 Et l'Esprit du SEIGNEUR vint puissamment sur lui, et il le déchira, comme il aurait déchiré un chevreau, et il n’avait rien en sa main ; mais il ne dit pas à son père ni à sa mère ce qu'il avait fait.

 6 And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and he had nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had done.

7 Et il descendit, et parla à la femme, et elle plut beaucoup à Samson.

 7 And he went down, and talked with the woman; and she pleased Samson well.

8 ¶ Et quelque temps après il retourna pour la prendre, et fit un détour pour voir la carcasse du lion ; et voici, il y avait un essaim d'abeilles, et du miel dans la carcasse du lion ;

 8 ¶ And after a time he returned to take her, and he turned aside to see the carcase of the lion: and, behold, there was a swarm of bees and honey in the carcase of the lion.

9 Et il en prit dans ses mains, et continua son chemin en mangeant, il alla vers son père et vers sa mère, et leur en donna, et ils en mangèrent ; mais il ne leur dit pas qu'il avait tiré le miel de la carcasse du lion.

 9 And he took thereof in his hands, and went on eating, and came to his father and mother, and he gave them, and they did eat: but he told not them that he had taken the honey out of the carcase of the lion.

10 ¶ Son père donc descendit vers la femme, et Samson fit là un festin ; car c'est ainsi que les jeunes gens avaient coutume de faire.

 10 ¶ So his father went down unto the woman: and Samson made there a feast; for so used the young men to do.

11 Et il arriva lorsqu’ils le virent, qu’ils amenèrent trente compagnons pour être avec lui.

 11 And it came to pass, when they saw him, that they brought thirty companions to be with him.

12 ¶ Et Samson leur dit : Je vais maintenant vous proposer une énigme ; si vous pouvez me l'expliquer dans les sept jours du festin et la trouvez, je vous donnerai trente linges, et trente vêtements de rechange.

 12 ¶ And Samson said unto them, I will now put forth a riddle unto you: if ye can certainly declare it me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty sheets and thirty change of garments:

13 Mais si vous ne pouvez pas me l'expliquer, alors c'est vous qui me donnerez trente linges, et trente vêtements de rechange. Et ils lui dirent : Propose ton énigme, afin que nous puissions l'entendre.

 13 But if ye cannot declare it me, then shall ye give me thirty sheets and thirty change of garments. And they said unto him, Put forth thy riddle, that we may hear it.

14 Et il leur dit : De celui qui mange est sortie la nourriture, et du fort est sortie la douceur. Et ils ne purent en trois jours expliquer l'énigme.

 14 And he said unto them, Out of the eater came forth meat, and out of the strong came forth sweetness. And they could not in three days expound the riddle.

15 Et il arriva au septième jour, qu'ils dirent à la femme de Samson : Séduis ton mari, afin qu’il nous explique l'énigme, de peur que nous ne te brûlions au feu, toi et la maison de ton père. Nous avez-vous appelés pour nous prendre ce que nous possédons ? N'est-ce pas ?

 15 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they said unto Samson’s wife, Entice thy husband, that he may declare unto us the riddle, lest we burn thee and thy father’s house with fire: have ye called us to take that we have? is it not so?

16 Et la femme de Samson pleurait auprès de lui, et disait : Tu ne fais que me haïr, et tu ne m'aimes pas ; tu as proposé une énigme aux enfants de mon peuple, et tu ne me l'as pas déclarée. Et il lui dit : Voici, je ne l'ai pas déclarée à mon père et à ma mère, et te la déclarerais-je ?

 16 And Samson’s wife wept before him, and said, Thou dost but hate me, and lovest me not: thou hast put forth a riddle unto the children of my people, and hast not told it me. And he said unto her, Behold, I have not told it my father nor my mother, and shall I tell it thee?

17 Et elle pleura auprès de lui les sept jours, tandis que dura le festin ; et il arriva, au septième jour, qu'il la lui déclara, parce qu'elle le tourmentait ; et elle déclara l'énigme aux enfants de son peuple.

 17 And she wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted: and it came to pass on the seventh day, that he told her, because she lay sore upon him: and she told the riddle to the children of her people.

18 Et les hommes de la ville lui dirent au septième jour, avant que le soleil se couche : Qu'y a-t-il de plus doux que le miel ? Et qu'y a-t-il de plus fort que le lion ? Et il leur dit : Si vous n'aviez pas labouré avec ma génisse, vous n'auriez pas trouvé mon énigme.

 18 And the men of the city said unto him on the seventh day before the sun went down, What is sweeter than honey? and what is stronger than a lion? And he said unto them, If ye had not plowed with my heifer, ye had not found out my riddle.

19 ¶ Et l'Esprit du SEIGNEUR vint sur lui, et il descendit à Ashkelon, et y tua trente hommes, et prit leur butin, et donna les vêtements de rechange à ceux qui avaient expliqué l'énigme. Et son courroux s'embrasa, et il monta à la maison de son père.

 19 ¶ And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and slew thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave change of garments unto them which expounded the riddle. And his anger was kindled, and he went up to his father’s house.

20 Mais la femme de Samson fut donnée à son compagnon, dont il avait fait son ami.

 20 But Samson’s wife was given to his companion, whom he had used as his friend.
