1 Et les enfants d'Israël firent de nouveau ce qui est mal à la vue du SEIGNEUR ; et le SEIGNEUR les livra en la main des Philistins pendant quarante ans.

 1 And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

2 ¶ Et il y avait un homme de Zorah, de la famille des Danites, dont le nom était Manoah ; et sa femme était stérile et n'enfantait pas.

 2 ¶ And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and bare not.

3 Et l'ange du SEIGNEUR apparut à la femme, et lui dit : Voici pour le moment, tu es stérile et tu n'enfantes pas ; mais tu concevras, et tu enfanteras un fils.

 3 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.

4 C’est pourquoi maintenant, prends garde, je te prie, et ne bois ni vin ni boisson forte, et ne mange aucune chose souillée ;

 4 Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing:

5 Car voici, tu concevras, et tu enfanteras un fils ; et le rasoir ne passera pas sur sa tête, car l’enfant sera nazaréen de Dieu dès l’utérus ; et ce sera lui qui commencera à délivrer Israël de la main des Philistins.

 5 For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.

6 ¶ Alors la femme vint, et parla à son mari, disant : Un homme de Dieu est venu vers moi, et son aspect était comme l'aspect d'un ange de Dieu, très terrible ; mais je ne lui ai pas demandé d'où il était, et il ne m'a pas dit son nom.

 6 ¶ Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name:

7 Mais il m'a dit : Voici, tu concevras, et enfanteras un fils ; et maintenant, ne bois ni vin, ni boisson forte, et ne mange aucune chose souillée ; car l’enfant sera un nazaréen de Dieu dès l’utérus, jusqu'au jour de sa mort.

 7 But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death.

8 ¶ Alors Manoah supplia le SEIGNEUR, et dit : Ô mon Seigneur que l'homme de Dieu que tu as envoyé vienne encore vers nous, et qu'il nous enseigne ce que nous devrons faire à l’enfant qui doit naître.

 8 ¶ Then Manoah intreated the LORD, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.

9 Et Dieu exauça la voix de Manoah ; et l'ange de Dieu vint encore vers la femme, lorsqu’elle était assise aux champs, mais Manoah, son mari, n'était pas avec elle.

 9 And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again unto the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah her husband was not with her.

10 Et la femme se hâta et courut et rapporta à son mari, et lui dit : Voici, l'homme qui était venu vers moi l'autre jour m'est apparu.

 10 And the woman made haste, and ran, and shewed her husband, and said unto him, Behold, the man hath appeared unto me, that came unto me the other day.

11 Et Manoah se leva et suivit sa femme ; et il vint vers l'homme, et lui dit : Es-tu l'homme qui a parlé à cette femme ? Et il dit : Je le suis.

 11 And Manoah arose, and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said unto him, Art thou the man that spakest unto the woman? And he said, I am.

12 Et Manoah dit : Que tes paroles arrivent. Comment dirigerons-nous l’enfant, et que devrons-nous faire ?

 12 And Manoah said, Now let thy words come to pass. How shall we order the child, and how shall we do unto him?

13 Et l'ange du SEIGNEUR dit à Manoah : La femme se gardera de tout ce dont je l’ai avertie.

 13 And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware.

14 Elle ne mangera aucune chose qui sort de la vigne, et elle ne boira ni vin, ni boisson forte, et ne mangera aucune chose souillée. Elle observera tout ce que je lui ai commandé.

 14 She may not eat of any thing that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: all that I commanded her let her observe.

15 ¶ Et Manoahvvv dit à l'ange du SEIGNEUR : Laisse-nous te retenir, je te prie, jusqu’à ce que nous préparions un chevreau pour toi.

 15 ¶ And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, I pray thee, let us detain thee, until we shall have made ready a kid for thee.

16 Et l'ange du SEIGNEUR dit à Manoah : Quand tu me retiendrais, je ne mangerai pas de ton pain ; et si tu offres une offrande consumée, tu l'offriras au SEIGNEUR. Car Manoah ne savait pas qu’il était un ange du Seigneur.

 16 And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Though thou detain me, I will not eat of thy bread: and if thou wilt offer a burnt offering, thou must offer it unto the LORD. For Manoah knew not that he was an angel of the LORD.

17 Et Manoah dit à l'ange du SEIGNEUR : Quel est ton nom, afin que nous t'honorions, quand ce que tu as dit sera arrivé ?

 17 And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour?

18 Et l'ange du SEIGNEUR lui dit : Pourquoi demandes-tu mon nom, vu qu’il est secret ?

 18 And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret?

19 Alors Manoah prit le chevreau avec l’offrande de farine, et l’offrit au SEIGNEUR sur un roc. Et l’ange fit une chose merveilleuse, et Manoah et sa femme regardaient.

 19 So Manoah took a kid with a meat offering, and offered it upon a rock unto the LORD: and the angel did wondrously; and Manoah and his wife looked on.

20 Car il arriva que comme la flamme montait de dessus l'autel vers le ciel, l'ange du SEIGNEUR monta dans la flamme de l'autel. Et Manoah et sa femme le regardant tombèrent leurs visages contre terre.

 20 For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground.

21 Mais l'ange du SEIGNEUR n'apparut plus à Manoah, ni à sa femme. Alors Manoah comprit que c'était un ange du SEIGNEUR.

 21 But the angel of the LORD did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was an angel of the LORD.

22 Et Manoah dit à sa femme : Nous mourrons certainement, parce que nous avons vu Dieu.

 22 And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God.

23 Mais sa femme lui dit : Si le SEIGNEUR avait voulu nous faire mourir, il n'aurait pas reçu de nos mains l’offrande consumée et l’offrande de farine, et il ne nous aurait pas fait voir toutes ces choses, et ne nous aurait pas maintenant fait entendre des choses comme celles-là.

 23 But his wife said unto him, If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.

24 ¶ Et la femme enfanta un fils, et appela son nom Samson ; et l'enfant grandit, et le SEIGNEUR le bénit.

 24 ¶ And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and the LORD blessed him.

25 Et l'Esprit du SEIGNEUR commença de l’animer de temps à autre dans le camp de Dan, entre Zorah et Eshtaol.

 25 And the Spirit of the LORD began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.
