1 ¶ Et il arriva, après ces choses, que Naboth, le Jezreelite, avait une vigne qui était à Jezreel, près du palais d’Ahab, roi de Samarie,

 1 And it came to pass after these things, that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard, which was in Jezreel, hard by the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.

2 Et Ahab parla à Naboth, disant : Donne-moi ta vigne, afin que j’en fasse un jardin potager, parce qu’elle est proche de ma maison ; et je te donnerai à sa place une meilleure vigne que celle-la, ou, si cela te semble bon, je te donnerai de l’argent pour sa valeur.

 2 And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house: and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it; or, if it seem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money.

3 Et Naboth dit à Ahab : Le SEIGNEUR m’a défendu de te donner l’héritage de mes pères.

 3 And Naboth said to Ahab, The LORD forbid it me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers unto thee.

4 Et Ahab vint en sa maison accablé et mécontent à cause de la parole que Naboth, le Jezreelite lui avait dite, car il avait dit : Je ne te donnerai pas l’héritage de mes pères. Et il se coucha sur son lit, détourna son visage et ne voulant pas manger de pain.

 4 And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him: for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

5 ¶ Mais Jezebel (Jézabel), sa femme vint vers lui et lui dit : Pourquoi ton esprit est-il triste que tu ne manges pas de pain ?

 5 ¶ But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said unto him, Why is thy spirit so sad, that thou eatest no bread?

6 Et il lui dit : Parce que j’ai parlé à Naboth, le Jezreelite, et lui ai dit : Donne-moi ta vigne pour de l’argent, ou bien, si cela te plaît, je te donnerai une autre vigne à sa place ; et il m’a répondit : Je ne te donnerai pas ma vigne.

 6 And he said unto her, Because I spake unto Naboth the Jezreelite, and said unto him, Give me thy vineyard for money; or else, if it please thee, I will give thee another vineyard for it: and he answered, I will not give thee my vineyard.

7 Et Jezebel (Jézabel), sa femme, lui dit : Gouvernes-tu maintenant le royaume d’Israël ? Lève-toi, et mange du pain, et que ton cœur soit heureux je te donnerai la vigne de Naboth, le Jezreelite.

 7 And Jezebel his wife said unto him, Dost thou now govern the kingdom of Israel? arise, and eat bread, and let thine heart be merry: I will give thee the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.

8 Et elle écrivit des lettres au nom d’Ahab, et les scella du sceau du roi, et envoya les lettres aux anciens et aux notables qui étaient dans sa ville, qui demeuraient avec Naboth.

 8 So she wrote letters in Ahab’s name, and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters unto the elders and to the nobles that were in his city, dwelling with Naboth.

9 Et elle écrivit dans les lettres, disant : Proclamez un jeûne et faites que Naboth soit haut placé parmi le peuple ;

 9 And she wrote in the letters, saying, Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people:

10 Et placez deux hommes, fils de Bélial, pour qu’ils témoignent contre lui, disant : Tu as blasphémé contre Dieu et le roi. Et ensuite menez-le dehors, lapidez-le, afin qu’il meure.

 10 And set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, Thou didst blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die.

11 Et les hommes de la ville de Naboth, savoir, les anciens et les notables qui habitaient dans sa ville, firent comme Jezebel (Jézabel) leur avait prescrit, et comme il était écrit dans les lettres qu’elle leur avait envoyées.

 11 And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who were the inhabitants in his city, did as Jezebel had sent unto them, and as it was written in the letters which she had sent unto them.

12 Ils proclamèrent un jeûne, et Naboth fut haut placé parmi le peuple.

 12 They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people.

13 Et les deux hommes, enfants de Bélial, vinrent et s’assirent en face de lui ; et les hommes de Bélial témoignèrent contre lui, savoir, contre Naboth, en la présence du peuple, disant : Naboth a blasphémé contre Dieu et le roi. Puis ils le menèrent hors de la ville, et l’assommèrent de pierres, si bien qu’il mourut.

 13 And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: and the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.

14 Et ils firent savoir à Jezebel (Jézabel), disant : Naboth a été lapidé, et il est mort.

 14 Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, Naboth is stoned, and is dead.

15 Et il arriva que lorsque Jezebel (Jézabel) apprit que Naboth avait été lapidé et était mort, elle dit à Ahab : Lève-toi, prends possession de la vigne de Naboth, le Jizreelite, qu’il avait refusé de te donner pour de l’argent, car Naboth n’est plus en vie, mais il est mort.

 15 ¶ And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned, and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give thee for money: for Naboth is not alive, but dead.

16 Et il arriva que, lorsque Ahab entendit que Naboth était mort, il se leva pour descendre à la vigne de Naboth, le Jezreelite, pour en prendre possession.

 16 And it came to pass, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab rose up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.

17 ¶ Et la parole du SEIGNEUR vint à Elijah (Élie), le Tishbite, disant :

 17 ¶ And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

18 Lève-toi, descends à la rencontre d’Ahab, roi d’Israël, qui est à Samarie voici, il est dans la vigne de Naboth, où il est descendu pour en prendre possession.

 18 Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, which is in Samaria: behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he is gone down to possess it.

19 Et tu lui parleras, disant : Ains dit le SEIGNEUR : As-tu tué, et aussi pris possession ? Et tu lui parleras, disant : Ains dit le SEIGNEUR : Au lieu où les chiens ont léché le sang de Naboth, les chiens lécheront ton sang, c’est-à-dire le tien.

 19 And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou killed, and also taken possession? And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick thy blood, even thine.

20 Et Ahab dit à Elijah (Élie) : M’as-tu trouvé, ô mon ennemi ? Et il répondit : Je t’ai trouvé ; parce que tu t’es vendu pour faire ce qui est mal à la vue du SEIGNEUR.

 20 And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he answered, I have found thee: because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the LORD.

21 Voici, je vais faire venir le mal sur toi, et je t’ôterai ta postérité, et je retrancherai à Ahab jusqu’à celui qui urine contre le mur, celui qui est enfermé et abandonné en Israël ;

 21 Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will take away thy posterity, and will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel,

22 Et je rendrai ta maison semblable à la maison de Jeroboam, le fils de Nebat, et à la maison de Baasha, le fils d’Ahijah ; à cause de la provocation par laquelle tu m’as provoqué au courroux et fait pécher Israël.

 22 And will make thine house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the provocation wherewith thou hast provoked me to anger, and made Israel to sin.

23 Et aussi quant à Jezebel (Jézabel), le SEIGNEUR parla, disant : Les chiens mangeront Jezebel (Jézabel) près du mur de Jezreel.

 23 And of Jezebel also spake the LORD, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.

24 Celui de la maison d’Ahab qui mourra dans la ville, les chiens le mangeront ; et celui qui mourra dans les champs, sera mangé par les oiseaux en l’air.

 24 Him that dieth of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat.

25 Mais il n’y avait eu personne comme Ahab, qui se vendit pour faire ce qui est malveillant à la vue du SEIGNEUR, selon que l’y incitait sa femme Jezebel (Jézabel) ;

 25 ¶ But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.

26 Et il agit très abominablement, allant après les idoles, selon toutes les choses qu’avaient faites les Amorites, lesquels le SEIGNEUR avait chassés devant les enfants d’Israël.

 26 And he did very abominably in following idols, according to all things as did the Amorites, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.

27 Et il arriva, lorsqu’Ahab entendit ces paroles, qu’il déchira ses vêtements, et mit un sac sur sa chair et jeûna ; et il couchait enveloppé du sac, et marchait mollement.

 27 And it came to pass, when Ahab heard those words, that he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.

28 Et la parole du SEIGNEUR vint à Elijah (Élie), le Tishbite, disant :

 28 And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

29 Vois-tu comment Ahab s’est humilié devant moi ? Parce qu’il s’est humilié devant moi, je ne ferai pas venir ce mal en ses jours ; mais aux jours de son fils, je ferai venir le mal sur sa maison.

 29 Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son’s days will I bring the evil upon his house.
