1 ¶ Et ils demeurèrent pendant trois ans sans guerre entre la Syrie et Israël.

 1 And they continued three years without war between Syria and Israel.

2 Et il arriva en la troisième année, que Jehoshaphat, le roi de Judah, descendit vers le roi d’Israël,

 2 And it came to pass in the third year, that Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.

3 Et le roi d’Israël dit à ses serviteurs : Savez-vous que Ramothgilead est à nous, et nous restons tranquilles, et nous ne la reprenons pas de la main du roi de Syrie ?

 3 And the king of Israel said unto his servants, Know ye that Ramoth in Gilead is ours, and we be still, and take it not out of the hand of the king of Syria?

4 Et il dit à Jehoshaphat : Viendras-tu avec moi te battre à Ramothgilead ? Et Jehoshaphat dit au roi d’Israël : Je suis comme tu es, mon peuple comme ton peuple, mes chevaux comme tes chevaux.

 4 And he said unto Jehoshaphat, Wilt thou go with me to battle to Ramothgilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as thou art, my people as thy people, my horses as thy horses.

5 Et Jehoshaphat dit au roi d’Israël : Enquiers-toi aujourd’hui, je te prie, de la parole du SEIGNEUR.

 5 And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD to day.

6 Alors le roi d’Israël rassembla les prophètes, environ quatre cents hommes, et leur dit : Irai-je à la guerre contre Ramothgilead, ou me désisterai-je ? Et ils dirent : Monte ; car le Seigneur la livrera en la main du roi.

 6 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king.

7 Et Jehoshaphat dit : N’y a-t-il pas ici encore un prophète du SEIGNEUR pour que nous puissions nous enquérir de lui ?

 7 And Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might enquire of him?

8 Et le roi d’Israël dit à Jehoshaphat : Il y a encore un homme par qui nous pouvons nous enquérir du SEIGNEUR ; mais je le hais ; car il ne me prophétise rien de bon quand il est question de moi, mais du mal. C’est Micah (Michée), le fils d’Imlah. Et Jehoshaphat dit : Que le roi ne parle pas ainsi.

 8 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may enquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

9 Puis le roi d’Israël appela un officier, et dit : Hâte-toi de faire venir ici Micah (Michée), le fils de Imlah.

 9 Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, Hasten hither Micaiah the son of Imlah.

10 Et le roi d’Israël et Jehoshaphat, le roi de Judah, étaient assis, chacun sur son trône, revêtus de leurs robes, dans un lieu disponible, à l’entrée de la porte de Samarie ; et tous les prophètes prophétisaient devant eux.

 10 And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, having put on their robes, in a void place in the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.

11 Et Zedekiah (Sédécias), le fils de Chenaanah, se fit des cornes de fer, et dit : Ains dit le SEIGNEUR : Avec celles-ci tu pousseras les Syriens jusqu’à ce tu les aies détruits.

 11 And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron: and he said, Thus saith the LORD, With these shalt thou push the Syrians, until thou have consumed them.

12 Et tous les prophètes prophétisaient de même, disant : Monte à Ramothgilead, et prospère ; et le SEIGNEUR la livrera en la main du roi.

 12 And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramothgilead, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the king’s hand.

13 Et le messager qui était allé appeler Micah (Michée), lui parla disant : Voici, maintenant les paroles des prophètes déclarent d’une seule bouche du bien au roi ; que ta parole soit, je te prie, semblable à la parole de l’un d’eux, et dis ce qui est bien.

 13 And the messenger that was gone to call Micaiah spake unto him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good unto the king with one mouth: let thy word, I pray thee, be like the word of one of them, and speak that which is good.

14 Et Micah (Michée) dit : De même que le SEIGNEUR est vivant, ce que le SEIGNEUR me dira, je dirai.

 14 And Micaiah said, As the LORD liveth, what the LORD saith unto me, that will I speak.

15 ¶ Et il vint vers le roi. Et le roi lui dit : Micah (Michée), irons-nous à la guerre contre Ramothgilead, ou nous en désisterons-nous ? Et il lui répondit : Va et prospère ; car le SEIGNEUR la livrera en la main du roi.

 15 ¶ So he came to the king. And the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king.

16 Et le roi lui dit : Combien de fois t’adjurerai-je à ce que tu ne me dises seulement ce qui est vrai au nom du SEIGNEUR ?

 16 And the king said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou tell me nothing but that which is true in the name of the LORD?

17 Et il dit : J’ai vu tout Israël dispersé sur les collines, comme des moutons qui n’ont pas de berger ; et le SEIGNEUR a dit : Ceux-ci n’ont pas de maître ; qu’ils retournent chacun à sa maison en paix.

 17 And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the hills, as sheep that have not a shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master: let them return every man to his house in peace.

18 Et le roi d’Israël dit à Jehoshaphat : Ne t’ai-je pas dit que lorsqu’il est question de moi, il ne prophétise rien de bon, mais du mal ?

 18 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would prophesy no good concerning me, but evil?

19 Et il dit : C’est pourquoi, écoute la parole du SEIGNEUR : J’ai vu le SEIGNEUR assis sur son trône, et toute l’armée du ciel se tenant près de lui, à sa main droite et à sa gauche.

 19 And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.

20 Et le SEIGNEUR disait : Qui persuadera Ahab, afin qu’il monte et qu’il tombe à Ramothgilead ? Et l’un dit de cette manière et un autre de cette manière.

 20 And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner.

21 Et un esprit sortit et se tint devant le SEIGNEUR, et dit : Je le persuaderai.

 21 And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade him.

22 Et le SEIGNEUR lui dit : Avec quoi ? Et il dit : Je sortirai, et je serai un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous ses prophètes. Et il dit : Tu le persuaderas et prévaudras aussi, sors, et fais ainsi.

 22 And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so.

23 Maintenant donc, voici, le SEIGNEUR a mis un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous tes prophètes ; et le SEIGNEUR a prononcé du mal contre toi.

 23 Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.

24 Mais Zedekiah (Sédécias), le fils de Chenaanah, s’approcha et frappa Micah (Michée) sur la joue, et dit : Par quel chemin l’Esprit du SEIGNEUR est-il parti de moi pour te parler ?

 24 But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee?

25 Et Micah (Michée) dit : Voici, tu le verras ce jour-là quand tu iras dans une chambre intérieure pour te cacher.

 25 And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see in that day, when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself.

26 Et le roi d’Israël dit : Prends Micah (Michée), et mène-le vers Amon, le gouverneur de la ville, et vers Joash, le fils du roi ;

 26 And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and carry him back unto Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king’s son;

27 Et tu diras : Ainsi dit le roi : Mettez cet individu en prison, et nourrissez-le du pain d’affliction et de l’eau d’affliction, jusqu’à ce que je revienne en paix.

 27 And say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.

28 Et Micah (Michée) dit : Si jamais tu reviens en paix, le SEIGNEUR n’a pas parlé par moi. Et il dit : Écoutez, ô peuples, chacun de vous.

 28 And Micaiah said, If thou return at all in peace, the LORD hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, O people, every one of you.

29 ¶ Le roi d’Israël monta donc avec Jehoshaphat, le roi de Judah, à Ramothgilead.

 29 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramothgilead.

30 Et le roi d’Israël dit à Jehoshaphat : Je me déguiserai et entrerai en la bataille ; mais toi, revêts-toi de tes robes. Et le roi d’Israël se déguisa et entra en la bataille.

 30 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and enter into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle.

31 Or le roi des Syriens avait commandé aux trente-deux capitaines de ses chariots, disant : Ne vous battez ni contre petit ni contre grand, mais seulement contre le roi d’Israël.

 31 But the king of Syria commanded his thirty and two captains that had rule over his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel.

32 Et il arriva que, lorsque les capitaines des chariots virent Jehoshaphat, ils dirent : C’est certainement le roi d’Israël. Et ils se détournèrent pour se battre contre lui ; et Jehoshaphat poussa un cri.

 32 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, Surely it is the king of Israel. And they turned aside to fight against him: and Jehoshaphat cried out.

33 Et il arriva, quand les capitaines des chariots s’aperçurent que ce n’était pas le roi d’Israël, ils se détournèrent de le poursuivre.

 33 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him.

34 Et un certain homme tira de l’arc à l’aventure, et frappa le roi d’Israël entre les jointures du harnais ; c’est pourquoi il dit au conducteur de son chariot : Tourne ta main, et mène-moi hors du camp, car je suis blessé.

 34 And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: wherefore he said unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.

35 Or la bataille se renforça ce jour-là, et le roi fut maintenu debout dans son chariot, contre les Syriens ; et il mourut le soir ; et le sang de la blessure coula dans le fond du chariot.

 35 And the battle increased that day: and the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians, and died at even: and the blood ran out of the wound into the midst of the chariot.

36 Et une proclamation traversa tout le camp, comme le soleil se couchait, disant : Chaque homme en sa ville, et chaque homme en son pays.

 36 And there went a proclamation throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his city, and every man to his own country.

37 Ainsi le roi mourut et fut porté à Samarie ; et on enterra le roi à Samarie.

 37 ¶ So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.

38 Et on lava le chariot dans l’étang de Samarie, et les chiens léchèrent son sang, et on lava son armure, selon la parole du SEIGNEUR qu’il avait prononcée.

 38 And one washed the chariot in the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood; and they washed his armour; according unto the word of the LORD which he spake.

39 Or le reste des actions d’Ahab, et tout ce qu’il fit, et la maison d’ivoire qu’il fit, et toutes les villes qu’il bâtit, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans le livre des chroniques des rois d’Israël ?

 39 Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he made, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

40 Ainsi Ahab s’endormit avec ses pères ; et Ahaziah, son fils régna à sa place.

 40 So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.

41 ¶ Et Jehoshaphat, le fils d’Asa commença à régner sur Judah la quatrième année d’Ahab, roi d’Israël.

 41 ¶ And Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.

42 Jehoshaphat était âgé de trente-cinq ans quand il commença à régner, et il régna vingt-cinq ans à Jérusalem. Et le nom de sa mère était Azubah, a fille de Shilhi.

 42 Jehoshaphat was thirty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

43 Et il marcha dans tous les chemins d’Asa, son père, il ne s’en détourna pas, faisant ce qui est droit aux yeux du SEIGNEUR ; toutefois les hauts lieux ne furent pas ôtés ; car le peuple offrait et brûlait encore de l’encens dans les hauts lieux.

 43 And he walked in all the ways of Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of the LORD: nevertheless the high places were not taken away; for the people offered and burnt incense yet in the high places.

44 Et Jehoshaphat fit la paix avec le roi d’Israël.

 44 And Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.

45 Et le reste des actions de Jehoshaphat, et sa puissance qu’il déploya et comment il s’est battu, ne sont-elles pas écrites dans le livre des chroniques des rois de Judah ?

 45 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he shewed, and how he warred, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

46 Et le reste des sodomites, qui étaient restés depuis les jours de son père, Asa, il les supprima du pays.

 46 And the remnant of the sodomites, which remained in the days of his father Asa, he took out of the land.

47 Il n’y avait pas alors de roi en Edom ; un député était roi.

 47 There was then no king in Edom: a deputy was king.

48 Jehoshaphat fit des navires de Tharshish, pour aller à Ophir chercher de l’or ; mais on n’y alla pas, parce que les navires furent brisés à Eziongeber.

 48 Jehoshaphat made ships of Tharshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Eziongeber.

49 Alors Ahaziah, le fils d’Ahab, dit à Jehoshaphat : Que mes serviteurs aillent avec tes serviteurs sur les navires. Mais Jehoshaphat ne le voulut pas.

 49 Then said Ahaziah the son of Ahab unto Jehoshaphat, Let my servants go with thy servants in the ships. But Jehoshaphat would not.

50 Et Jehoshaphat s’endormit avec ses pères, et fut enterré avec eux dans la cité de David, son père ; et Joram, son fils régna à sa place.

 50 ¶ And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.

51 Ahaziah, le fils d’Ahab commença à régner sur Israël, à Samarie, la dix-septième année de Jehoshaphat, roi de Judah ; et il régna deux ans sur Israël.

 51 ¶ Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned two years over Israel.

52 Et iI fit ce qui est mal à la vue du SEIGNEUR, et il marcha dans le chemin de son père, et dans le chemin de sa mère, et dans le chemin de Jeroboam, le fils de Nebat, qui avait fait pécher Israël.

 52 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin:

53 Car il servit Baal et l’adora, et provoqua au courroux le SEIGNEUR Dieu d’Israël, selon tout ce que son père avait fait.

 53 For he served Baal, and worshipped him, and provoked to anger the LORD God of Israel, according to all that his father had done.
