1 Et il arriva lorsque le SEIGNEUR voulait enlever Elijah (Élie) au ciel dans un tourbillon, qu’Elijah (Élie) et Elisha (Elisée) venaient de Gilgal (Guilgal).

 1 And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.

2 Et Elijah (Élie) dit à (Elisée) : Attends ici, je te prie ; car le SEIGNEUR m’a envoyé jusqu’à Bethel. Et Elisha (Elisée) lui dit : Comme le SEIGNEUR est vivant, comme ton âme est vivante, je ne te quitterai pas. Ainsi ils descendirent à Bethel.

 2 And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said unto him, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel.

3 Et les fils des prophètes qui étaient à Bethel sortirent vers Elisha (Elisée), et lui dirent : Sais-tu que le SEIGNEUR enlèvera ton maître d’au-dessus de ta tête aujourd’hui ? Et il dit : Oui, je le sais ; taisez-vous.

 3 And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.

4 Et Elijah (Élie) lui dit : Elisha (Elisée), attends ici, je te prie ; car le SEIGNEUR m’a envoyé à Jéricho. Et il dit : Comme le SEIGNEUR est vivant et comme ton âme est vivante, je ne te quitterai pas. Ainsi ils vinrent à Jéricho.

 4 And Elijah said unto him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Jericho. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho.

5 Et les fils des prophètes qui étaient à Jéricho s’approchèrent d’Elisha (Elisée), et lui dirent : Sais-tu que le SEIGNEUR enlèvera ton maître d’au-dessus de ta tête aujourd’hui ? Et il répondit : Oui, je Ie sais ; taisez-vous.

 5 And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.

6 Et Elijah (Élie) lui dit : Attends ici, je te prie, car le SEIGNEUR m’a envoyé jusqu’au Jourdain. Et il répondit : Comme le SEIGNEUR est vivant et comme ton âme est vivante, je ne te quitterai pas. Et tous deux continuèrent leur chemin.

 6 And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the LORD hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on.

7 Et cinquante hommes parmi les fils des prophètes vinrent, et se tinrent pour voir au loin, et eux deux se tinrent près du Jourdain.

 7 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan.

8 Et Elijah (Élie) prit son manteau, et le plia et frappa les eaux, et elles se divisèrent çà et là, si bien qu’ils passèrent tous deux sur le sol sec.

 8 And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.

9 ¶ Et il arriva, quand ils eurent passé, qu’Elijah (Élie) dit à Elisha (Elisée) : Demande ce que je ferai pour toi, avant que je sois enlevé d’avec toi. Et Elisha (Elisée) dit : Je te prie, qu’une double portion de ton esprit soit sur moi.

 9 ¶ And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.

10 Et il dit : Tu as demandé une chose difficile. Néanmoins si tu me vois quand je serai enlevé d’avec toi, il te sera ainsi fait ; sinon, il ne sera pas ainsi.

 10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.

11 Et il arriva comme ils continuaient leur chemin et parlaient, voici, qu’apparut un chariot de feu, et des chevaux de feu, et ils les séparèrent l’un de l’autre ; et Elijah (Élie) monta au ciel dans un tourbillon.

 11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

12 ¶ Et Elisha (Elisée), le vit, et s’écria : Mon père, mon père, le chariot d’Israël et ses chevaliers. Et il ne le vit plus ; et, il saisit ses vêtements, il les déchira en deux morceaux.

 12 ¶ And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.

13 Et il ramassa aussi le manteau d’Elijah (Élie) qui était tombé ; et il s’en retourna, et se tint sur le bord du Jourdain.

 13 He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;

14 Et il prit le manteau d’Elijah (Élie) qui était tombé de lui ; et frappa les eaux et dit : Où est le SEIGNEUR Dieu d’Elijah (Elie) ? Et quand lui aussi frappa les eaux, elles se partagèrent çà et là, et Elisha (Elisée) passa.

 14 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.

15 Et quand les fils des prophètes qui étaient à Jéricho, en face, le virent, ils dirent : L’esprit d’Elijah (Élie)repose sur Elisha (Elisée). Et ils vinrent à sa rencontre, et s’inclinèrent jusqu’à terre devant lui,

 15 And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

16 ¶ Et lui dirent : Voici maintenant, il y a avec tes serviteurs cinquante hommes forts ; laisse les partir, nous te prions, et qu’ils cherchent ton maître, si par aventure l’Esprit du SEIGNEUR, l’a enlevé, et l’a jeté sur quelque montagne ou dans quelque vallée. Et il dit : Vous ne les enverrez pas.

 16 ¶ And they said unto him, Behold now, there be with thy servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master: lest peradventure the Spirit of the LORD hath taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send.

17 Et comme ils le pressèrent jusqu’à ce qu’il en soit honteux ; il leur dit : Envoyez. Et ils envoyèrent cinquante hommes, et ils cherchèrent trois jours, mais ne le trouvèrent pas.

 17 And when they urged him till he was ashamed, he said, Send. They sent therefore fifty men; and they sought three days, but found him not.

18 Et quand ils revinrent vers Elisha (Elisée), (car il attendait à Jéricho) ; il leur dit : Ne vous avais-je pas dit : N’y allez pas ?

 18 And when they came again to him, (for he tarried at Jericho,) he said unto them, Did I not say unto you, Go not?

19 ¶ Et les hommes de la ville dirent à Elisha (Elisée) : Voici, je te prie, la situation de cette ville est agréable, comme mon seigneur le voit ; mais l’eau est inexistante, et la terre stérile.

 19 ¶ And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord seeth: but the water is naught, and the ground barren.

20 Et il dit : Apportez-moi une cruche neuve, et mettez-y du sel. Et ils la lui apportèrent.

 20 And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought it to him.

21 Et il sortit vers la source des eaux, et y jeta le sel et dit : Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : J’ai rendu ces eaux saines ; elles ne causeront plus ni mort, ni terre stérile.

 21 And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land.

22 Ainsi les eaux furent saines jusqu’à ce jour, selon le propos d’Elisha (Elisée), lequel il avait proféré.

 22 So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spake.

23 ¶ Et de là il monta à Bethel, et comme il montait par le chemin, des petits enfants sortirent de la ville, et se moquaient de lui, et lui disaient : Monte, toi, tête chauve ; monte, toi, tête chauve.

 23 ¶ And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head.

24 Et il se retourna, et les regarda et les maudit au nom du SEIGNEUR. Et deux ourses sortirent de la forêt, et déchirèrent quarante-deux de ces enfants.

 24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

25 Et il alla de là au mont Carmel, d’où il retourna à Samarie.

 25 And he went from thence to mount Carmel, and from thence he returned to Samaria.
