1 En la douzième année d’Ahaz, roi de Judah (Juda), Hoshea, (Osée) fils d’Elah, commença à régner à Samarie, sur Israël, il régna neuf ans.

 1 In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah began Hoshea the son of Elah to reign in Samaria over Israel nine years.

2 Et il fit ce qui était mauvais à la vue du SEIGNEUR, mais pas toutefois comme les rois d’Israël qui avaient été avant lui.

 2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, but not as the kings of Israel that were before him.

3 ¶ Shalmaneser, roi d’Assyrie, monta contre lui ; et Hoshea devint son serviteur, et il lui donna des présents.

 3 ¶ Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria; and Hoshea became his servant, and gave him presents.

4 Et le roi d’Assyrie découvrit qu’Hoshea conspirait ; car il avait envoyé des messagers vers So, roi d’Égypte, et n’envoyait plus de présents comme il avait fait d’année en année ; c’est pourquoi le roi d’Assyrie l’enferma, et le lia dans une prison.

 4 And the king of Assyria found conspiracy in Hoshea: for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and brought no present to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year: therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison.

5 ¶ Puis le roi d’Assyrie monta à travers tout le pays, et monta à Samarie, et l’assiégea pendant trois ans.

 5 ¶ Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, and went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years.

6 ¶ En la neuvième année d’Hoshea, le roi d’Assyrie prit Samarie, et il transporta Israël en Assyrie, et les installa à Halah et sur le Habor, près de la rivière de Gozan, et dans les villes des Mèdes.

 6 ¶ In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

7 Car les enfants d’Israël avaient péché contre le SEIGNEUR leur Dieu, qui les avait fait remonter du pays d’Égypte, de dessous la main de Pharaon, roi d’Égypte, et ils avaient craint d’autres dieux.

 7 For so it was, that the children of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, which had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,

8 Et ils marchèrent dans les statuts des païens que le SEIGNEUR avait chassés devant les enfants d’Israël, et dans ceux des rois d’Israël, lesquels ils avaient établis.

 8 And walked in the statutes of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made.

9 Et les enfants d’Israël firent en secret contre le SEIGNEUR leur Dieu ces choses qui n’étaient pas droites ; et ils se bâtirent des hauts lieux dans toutes leurs villes, depuis la tour des gardes jusqu’à la ville fortifiée.

 9 And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the LORD their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.

10 Et ils se dressèrent des statues et des bosquets sur toute haute colline et sous tout arbre vert,

 10 And they set them up images and groves in every high hill, and under every green tree:

11 Et brûlèrent là de l’encens dans tous les hauts lieux, comme faisaient les païens que le SEIGNEUR avait transportés devant eux et ils firent des choses mauvaises, pour provoquer au courroux le SEIGNEUR,

 11 And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the heathen whom the LORD carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to provoke the LORD to anger:

12 Et ils servirent les idoles, dont le SEIGNEUR leur avait dit : Vous ne ferez pas cette chose-la.

 12 For they served idols, whereof the LORD had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing.

13 Cependant le SEIGNEUR témoigna contre Israël et Judah (Juda) par tous les prophètes et par tous les voyants, disant : Détournez-vous de vos mauvais chemins, et gardez mes commandements et mes statuts, selon toute la loi que j’ai commandée à vos pères, et que je vous ai envoyée par mes serviteurs les prophètes.

 13 Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.

14 Néanmoins ils ne voulurent pas entendre, et ils raidirent leur cou, comme le cou de leurs pères, qui n’avaient pas cru au SEIGNEUR leur Dieu.

 14 Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God.

15 Et ils rejetèrent ses statuts, et son alliance qu’il avait faite avec leurs pères, et ses témoignages par lesquels il avait témoigné contre eux ; et ils poursuivirent la vanité, et sont devenus vains, et allèrent après les païens qui étaient autour d’eux, concernant lesquels le SEIGNEUR leur avait ordonné de ne pas faire comme eux.

 15 And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them, that they should not do like them.

16 Et ils abandonnèrent tous les commandements du SEIGNEUR leur Dieu, et se firent des images de fonte, c’est-à-dire deux veaux, et firent des bosquets, et adorèrent toute l’armée du ciel, et servirent Baal.

 16 And they left all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made a grove, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.

17 Et ils firent passer leurs fils et leurs filles par le feu, et pratiquèrent la divination et les enchantements, et se vendirent pour faire le mal à la vue du SEIGNEUR, afin de le provoquer au courroux.

 17 And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

18 Aussi le SEIGNEUR se courrouça grandement contre Israël, et les retira de sa vue il n’en resta que la seule tribu de Judah (Juda).

 18 Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only.

19 Et Judah (Juda) non plus ne garda pas les commandements du SEIGNEUR leur Dieu ; mais ils marchèrent dans les statuts d’Israël lesquels ils avaient établis.

 19 Also Judah kept not the commandments of the LORD their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.

20 Et le SEIGNEUR rejeta toute la semence d’Israël, et les affligea, et les livra en la main des pillards, jusqu’à ce qu’il les ait rejetés de sa vue.

 20 And the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight.

21 Car il déchira Israël de la maison de David, et ils avaient fait roi Jeroboam, le fils de Nebat, et Jeroboam détourna Israël de suivre le SEIGNEUR ; et il leur fit commettre un grand péché.

 21 For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and Jeroboam drave Israel from following the LORD, and made them sin a great sin.

22 Car les enfants d’Israël marchèrent dans tous les péchés que Jeroboam avait commis ; ils ne s’en détournèrent pas ;

 22 For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they departed not from them;

23 Jusqu’à ce que le SEIGNEUR les retire de sa vue, comme il avait parlé par tous ses serviteurs les prophètes. Ainsi Israël fut transporté de son pays en Assyrie, jusqu’à ce jour.

 23 Until the LORD removed Israel out of his sight, as he had said by all his servants the prophets. So was Israel carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day.

24 ¶ Et le roi d’Assyrie fit venir des hommes de Babylone, et de Cuthah, et d’Ava, de Hamath et de Sepharvaim, et les établit dans les villes de Samarie, à la place des enfants d’Israël ; et ils prirent possession de la Samarie, et demeurèrent dans ses villes.

 24 ¶ And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Ava, and from Hamath, and from Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel: and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.

25 Or il arriva, lorsqu’ils commencèrent d’y demeurer, qu’ils ne craignaient pas le SEIGNEUR ; c’est pourquoi le SEIGNEUR envoya contre eux des lions qui tuèrent plusieurs d’entre eux.

 25 And so it was at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared not the LORD: therefore the LORD sent lions among them, which slew some of them.

26 C’est pourquoi on parla au roi d’Assyrie, disant : Les nations que tu as déplacées et établies dans les villes de la Samarie ne connaissent pas la manière de servir le Dieu du pays, c’est pourquoi il a envoyé des lions contre eux, et voici, ils les tuent, parce qu’ils ne connaissent pas la manière de servir le Dieu du pays.

 26 Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the God of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they slay them, because they know not the manner of the God of the land.

27 Alors le roi d’Assyrie commanda, disant : Envoyez-y un des prêtres que vous avez transportés de là ; et qu’il aille, qu’il y demeure, et qu’il leur enseigne la manière de servir le Dieu du pays.

 27 Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land.

28 Ainsi l’un des prêtres qu’on avait transportés de Samarie vint et demeura à Bethel ; et il leur enseigna comment ils devaient craindre le SEIGNEUR.

 28 Then one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the LORD.

29 Quoi qu’il en soit chaque nation se fit ses dieux, et les mit dans les maisons des hauts lieux que les Samaritains avaient faites ; chaque nation dans ses villes dans lesquelles elle demeurait.

 29 Howbeit every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt.

30 Et les hommes de Babylone firent Succothbenoth ; et les hommes de Cuth firent Nergal ; et les hommes de Hamath firent Ashima ;

 30 And the men of Babylon made Succothbenoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,

31 Et les Avites firent Nibhaz et Tartak ; et les Sepharvites brûlaient au feu leurs enfants à Adrammelech et à Anammelech, les dieux de Sepharvaim.

 31 And the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.

32 Ainsi ils craignaient le SEIGNEUR, et se firent parmi les plus bas parmi eux des prêtres des hauts lieux, lesquels sacrifiaient pour eux dans les maisons des hauts lieux.

 32 So they feared the LORD, and made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.

33 Ils craignaient le SEIGNEUR, et ils servaient leurs dieux, à la manière des nations d’où ils avaient été transportés.

 33 They feared the LORD, and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations whom they carried away from thence.

34 Et jusqu’à ce jour ils font selon leurs premières traditions ; ils ne craignent pas le SEIGNEUR, et ils ne font ni selon leurs statuts, ni selon leurs ordonnances, ni selon la loi et le commandement que le SEIGNEUR Dieu commanda aux enfants de Jacob, qu’il nomma Israël.

 34 Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the LORD, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;

35 Avec lesquels le SEIGNEUR avait fait une alliance, et leur avait commandé, disant : Vous ne craindrez pas d’autres dieux, vous ne vous courberez pas devant eux ; vous ne les servirez pas, et vous ne leur sacrifierez pas.

 35 With whom the LORD had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them:

36 Mais le SEIGNEUR qui vous a fait sortir du pays d’Égypte par une grande puissance et à bras étendu, lui, vous craindrez et vous l’adorerez, et à lui vous sacrifierez.

 36 But the LORD, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched out arm, him shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice.

37 Et les statuts, et les ordonnances, et la loi et le commandement qu’il a écrits pour vous, vous prendrez garde à les pratiquer à toujours ; et vous ne craindrez pas d’autres dieux.

 37 And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for evermore; and ye shall not fear other gods.

38 Et vous n’oublierez pas l’alliance que j’ai faite avec vous ; et vous ne craindrez pas d’autres dieux ;

 38 And the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall ye fear other gods.

39 Mais c’est le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu que vous craindrez, et il vous délivrera de la main de vos ennemis.

 39 But the LORD your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.

40 Quoi qu’il en soit ils n’écoutèrent pas, mais ils firent selon leur première tradition.

 40 Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner.

41 Ainsi ces nations craignaient le SEIGNEUR, et servaient leurs images taillées, ainsi que leurs enfants, et les enfants de leurs enfants, font jusqu’à ce jour comme leurs pères ont fait.

 41 So these nations feared the LORD, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children’s children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.
