1 Or il arriva durant la troisième année d’Hoshea, fils d’Elah, roi d’Israël, qu’Hezekiah, (Ézéchias) le fils d’Ahaz, roi de Judah (Juda), commença à régner.

 1 Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.

2 Il était âgé de vingt-cinq ans quand il commença à régner, et il régna vingt-neuf ans à Jérusalem. Le nom de sa mère était Abi, la fille de Zachariah (Zacharie).

 2 Twenty and five years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Abi, the daughter of Zachariah.

3 Et il fit ce qui était droit à la vue du SEIGNEUR, selon tout ce qu’avait fait David, son père.

 3 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father did.

4 ¶ Il ôta les hauts lieux ; et brisa les statues, et coupa les bosquets, et brisa le serpent de bronze que Moïse avait fait, car jusqu’à ces jours-là les enfants d’Israël lui brûlaient de l’encens ; et on le nommait Nehushtan.

 4 ¶ He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.

5 Il mit sa confiance dans le SEIGNEUR Dieu d’Israël ; si bien qu’après lui, il n’y eut pas son pareil parmi tous les rois de Judah (Juda), ni aucun de ceux qui avaient été avant lui.

 5 He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.

6 Car il s’attacha au SEIGNEUR, et il ne se détourna pas de le suivre ; et il garda ses commandements, lesquels le SEIGNEUR avait donnés à Moïse.

 6 For he clave to the LORD, and departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses.

7 Et le SEIGNEUR fut avec lui ; et il prospérait partout où il allait, et il se révolta contre le roi d’Assyrie, et ne le servit pas.

 7 And the LORD was with him; and he prospered whithersoever he went forth: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.

8 Il frappa les Philistins, c’est-à-dire jusqu’à Gaza et ses frontières, depuis la tour des gardes jusqu’à la ville fortifiée.

 8 He smote the Philistines, even unto Gaza, and the borders thereof, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.

9 ¶ Et il arriva, durant la quatrième année du roi Hezekiah, qui était la septième d’Hoshea, fils d’Elah, roi d’Israël, que Shalmaneser, roi d’Assyrie, monta contre Samarie et l’assiégea.

 9 ¶ And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it.

10 Et au bout de trois ans ils la prirent ; c’est-à-dire durant la sixième année d’Hezekiah, qui était la neuvième d’Hoshea, roi d’Israël, Samarie fut prise.

 10 And at the end of three years they took it: even in the sixth year of Hezekiah, that is the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.

11 Et le roi d’Assyrie transporta Israël en Assyrie, et il les plaça à Halah et à Habor près de la rivière de Gozan, et dans les villes des Mèdes,

 11 And the king of Assyria did carry away Israel unto Assyria, and put them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes:

12 Parce qu’ils n’avaient pas obéi à la voix du SEIGNEUR leur Dieu, mais qu’ils avaient transgressé son alliance, et tout ce que Moïse, le serviteur du SEIGNEUR avait commandé, et ils ne voulurent pas les entendre, ni les faire.

 12 Because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed his covenant, and all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not hear them, nor do them.

13 ¶ Or durant la quatorzième année du roi Hezekiah, Sennacherib, roi d’Assyrie, monta contre toutes les villes fortifiées de Judah (Juda), et les prit.

 13 ¶ Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fenced cities of Judah, and took them.

14 Et Hezekiah, roi de Judah (Juda), envoya au roi d’Assyrie à Lachish, disant : J’ai offensé, détourne-toi de moi ; ce que tu m’imposeras, je le supporterai. Et le roi d’Assyrie imposa à Hezekiah, roi de Judah (Juda), trois cents talents d’argent et trente talents d’or.

 14 And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have offended; return from me: that which thou puttest on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed unto Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

15 Et Hezekiah (Ézéchias) lui donna tout l’argent qui se trouva dans la maison du SEIGNEUR et dans les trésors de la maison du roi.

 15 And Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king’s house.

16 En ce temps-là, Hezekiah (Ézéchias) arracha l’or des portes du temple du SEIGNEUR et des piliers, qu’Hezekiah, roi de Judah (Juda) avait plaqués et le donna au roi d’Assyrie.

 16 At that time did Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of the LORD, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.

17 ¶ Et le roi d’Assyrie envoya, de Lachish, Tartan, Rabsaris et Rabshakeh, avec une grande armée vers le roi Hezekiah, à Jérusalem. Et ils montèrent et arrivèrent à Jérusalem. Et après être montés ils arrivèrent et se tinrent près de l’aqueduc du bassin supérieur, qui est sur la grande route du champ du foulon.

 17 ¶ And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rabshakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great host against Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they were come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.

18 Et après avoir appelé le roi, Eliakim, le fils de Hilkiah, qui était majordome, et Shebna, le scribe, et Joah, le fils d’Asaph, l’archiviste, sortirent vers eux.

 18 And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.

19 Et Rabshakeh leur dit : Dites maintenant à Hezekiah (Ézéchias) : Ainsi dit le grand roi, le roi d’Assyrie : Quelle est cette confiance en laquelle tu te fies ?

 19 And Rabshakeh said unto them, Speak ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?

20 Tu dis, (mais ce ne sont que des paroles) : J’ai le conseil et la vigueur requis pour la guerre. Maintenant, sur qui te confies-tu que tu te révoltes contre moi ?

 20 Thou sayest, (but they are but vain words,) I have counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?

21 Voici, maintenant, tu te confies sur le bâton de ce roseau brisé, c’est-à-dire sur l’Égypte, sur lequel si un homme s’appuie, il lui entrera dans sa main et la percera Tel est Pharaon, roi d’Égypte, pour tous ceux qui se confient en lui.

 21 Now, behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt, on which if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt unto all that trust on him.

22 Mais si vous me dites : Nous nous confions dans le SEIGNEUR notre Dieu ; n’est-ce pas lui dont Hezekiah (Ézéchias) a retiré les hauts lieux et les autels, et a dit à Judah (Juda) et à Jérusalem : Vous adorerez devant cet autel à Jérusalem ?

 22 But if ye say unto me, We trust in the LORD our God: is not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?

23 Maintenant donc, je te prie, donne des gages à mon seigneur, le roi d’Assyrie ; et je te donnerai deux mille chevaux, si tu peux de ton côté placer des cavaliers pour les monter.

 23 Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges to my lord the king of Assyria, and I will deliver thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.

24 Comment donc ferais-tu tourner le visage d’un capitaine d’entre les moindres des serviteurs de mon maître, et tu mets ta confiance en l’Égypte, pour des chariots et des cavaliers ?

 24 How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

25 Suis-je maintenant monté sans le SEIGNEUR contre ce lieu-ci pour le détruire ? Le SEIGNEUR m’a dit : Monte contre ce pays, et détruis-le.

 25 Am I now come up without the LORD against this place to destroy it? The LORD said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.

26 Alors Eliakim, le fils de Hilkiah, et Shebna et Joah, dirent à Rabshakeh : Parle, je te prie, à tes serviteurs en langue araméenne, car nous la comprenons ; et ne nous parle pas dans la langue des Juifs, aux oreilles du peuple qui est sur la muraille.

 26 Then said Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna, and Joah, unto Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, to thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and talk not with us in the Jews’ language in the ears of the people that are on the wall.

27 Mais Rabshakeh leur dit : Mon maître m’a-t-il envoyé vers ton maître, et vers toi, pour dire ces paroles ? Ne m’a-t-Il pas envoyé vers les hommes qui se tiennent sur la muraille, afin qu’ils puissent manger leurs excréments et boire leur urine avec vous ?

 27 But Rabshakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?

28 Puis Rabshakeh, se tint debout, et s’écria à haute voix en la langue des Juifs, et parla, disant : Écoutez la parole du grand roi, le roi d’Assyrie

 28 Then Rabshakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and spake, saying, Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria:

29 Ainsi dit le roi : Qu’Hezekiah (Ézéchias) ne vous trompe pas ; car il ne pourra pas vous délivrer de sa main.

 29 Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you out of his hand:

30 Et qu’Hezekiah (Ézéchias) ne vous fasse pas mettre votre confiance dans le SEIGNEUR, disant : Le SEIGNEUR indubitablement nous délivrera, et cette ville ne sera pas livrée en la main du roi d’Assyrie.

 30 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

31 N’écoutez pas Hezekiah ; car ainsi dit le roi d’Assyrie : Faites un arrangement avec moi par un présent, et sortez vers moi ; et ensuite vous mangerez chacun de sa vigne et chacun de son figuier, et vous boirez chacun de l’eau de sa citerne ;

 31 Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me, and then eat ye every man of his own vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his cistern:

32 Jusqu’à ce que je vienne, et que je vous emmène en un pays pareil au vôtre, un pays de grain et de vin, un pays de pain et de vignes, un pays d’oliviers à huile et de miel ; afin que vous puissiez vivre et ne pas mourir. Et n’écoutez pas Hezekiah, quand il voudra vous persuader, disant : Le SEIGNEUR nous délivrera.

 32 Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and of honey, that ye may live, and not die: and hearken not unto Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, The LORD will deliver us.

33 Les dieux des nations ont-ils bien délivré chacun son pays de la main du roi d’Assyrie ?

 33 Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered at all his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

34 Où sont les dieux de Hamath et d’Arpad ? Où sont les dieux de Sepharvaim, de Hena et d’Ivah ? Ont-ils délivré Samarie de ma main ?

 34 Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah? have they delivered Samaria out of mine hand?

35 Qui sont-ils parmi tous les dieux des pays qui ont délivré leur pays de ma main, pour que le SEIGNEUR délivre Jérusalem de ma main ?

 35 Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of mine hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of mine hand?

36 Mais le peuple se tut et ne lui répondit pas un mot ; car c’était le commandement du roi, disant : Ne lui répondez pas.

 36 But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

37 Alors Eliakim, le fils de Hilkiah, qui était le majordome, et Shebna, le scribe, et Joah, le fils d’Asaph, l’archiviste, vinrent vers Hezekiah, leurs vêtements déchirés, et lui rapportèrent les paroles de Rabshakeh.

 37 Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.
