1 Josiah était âgé de huit ans quand il commença à régner, et il régna trente et un ans à Jérusalem. Et le nom de sa mère était Jedidah, la fille d’Adaiah, de Boscath.

 1 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jedidah, the daughter of Adaiah of Boscath.

2 Et il fit ce qui était droit à la vue du SEIGNEUR, et marcha dans tout le chemin de David, son père, et ne s’en détourna ni à main droite ni à gauche.

 2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.

3 ¶ Et il arriva, durant la dix-huitième année du roi Josiah, que le roi envoya Shaphan le scribe, le fils d’Azaliah, le fils de Meshullam, à la maison du SEIGNEUR, disant :

 3 ¶ And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of the LORD, saying,

4 Monte vers Hilkiah, le grand prêtre, et qu’il additionne l’argent qui a été apporté dans la maison du SEIGNEUR, lequel les gardiens du seuil ont recueilli du peuple.

 4 Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the silver which is brought into the house of the LORD, which the keepers of the door have gathered of the people:

5 Et qu’on le délivre en la main de ceux qui font l’ouvrage, qui supervisent la maison du SEIGNEUR ; et qu’ils le donnent à ceux qui font l’ouvrage qui se fait dans la maison du SEIGNEUR, pour réparer les brèches de la maison

 5 And let them deliver it into the hand of the doers of the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD: and let them give it to the doers of the work which is in the house of the LORD, to repair the breaches of the house,

6 Aux charpentiers, et aux ouvriers et aux maçons, pour acheter du bois et des pierres de taille pour réparer la maison.

 6 Unto carpenters, and builders, and masons, and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house.

7 Toutefois on ne leur faisait pas rendre compte de l’argent qu’on délivrait en leur main, parce qu’ils agissaient avec fidélité.

 7 Howbeit there was no reckoning made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand, because they dealt faithfully.

8 ¶ Et Hilkiah, le grand prêtre, dit à Shaphan, le scribe : J’ai trouvé le livre de la loi dans la maison du SEIGNEUR. Et Hilkiah donna le livre à Shaphan, et il le lut.

 8 ¶ And Hilkiah the high priest said unto Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

9 Et Shaphan, le scribe, vint vers le roi et rapporta la chose au roi, et dit : Tes serviteurs ont amassé l’argent qui a été trouvé dans la maison, et l’ont délivré en la main de ceux qui font l’ouvrage, qui supervisent la maison du SEIGNEUR.

 9 And Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, Thy servants have gathered the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of them that do the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD.

10 Et Shaphan, le scribe, montra au roi, disant : Hilkiah, le prêtre, m’a donné un livre. Et Shaphan le lut devant le roi ;

 10 And Shaphan the scribe shewed the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.

11 Et il arriva que, lorsque le roi eut entendu les paroles du livre de la loi, il déchira ses vêtements.

 11 And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes.

12 Et le roi commanda à Hilkiah, le prêtre, et à Ahikam, le fils de Shaphan, et à Achbor, le fils de Michaiah, et à Shaphan, le scribe, et à Asahiah, serviteur du roi, disant :

 12 And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asahiah a servant of the king’s, saying,

13 Allez, consultez le SEIGNEUR pour moi, et pour le peuple et pour tout Judah (Juda), concernant les paroles de ce livre qui a été trouvé. Car grande est la colère du SEIGNEUR, qui s’est allumée contre nous, parce que nos pères n’ont pas écouté les paroles de ce livre, pour faire selon tout ce qui y est écrit à notre sujet.

 13 Go ye, enquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.

14 Alors Hilkiah, le prêtre, et Ahikam, et Achbor, et Shaphan et Asahiah, allèrent vers Huldah, la prophétesse, la femme de Shallum, le fils de Tikvah, le fils de Harhas, gardien de la garde-robe ; (or elle habitait à Jérusalem au collège) ; et ils s’entretinrent avec elle.

 14 So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went unto Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college;) and they communed with her.

15 ¶ Et elle leur dit : Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR Dieu d’Israël : Dites à l’homme qui vous a envoyés vers moi.

 15 ¶ And she said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Tell the man that sent you to me,

16 Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : Voici, je vais faire venir du mal sur ce lieu et sur ses habitants, c’est-à-dire toutes les paroles du livre que le roi de Judah (Juda) a lu.

 16 Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read:

17 Parce qu’ils m’ont abandonné et ont brûlé de l’encens à d’autres dieux, pour me provoquer au courroux par toutes les œuvres de leurs mains, c’est pourquoi ma colère s’est allumée contre ce lieu, et elle ne s’éteindra pas.

 17 Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched.

18 Mais quant au roi de Judah (Juda), qui vous a envoyés pour consulter le SEIGNEUR, vous lui direz ainsi : Ainsi dit Ie SEIGNEUR Dieu d’Israël, concernant les paroles que tu as entendues :

 18 But to the king of Judah which sent you to enquire of the LORD, thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, As touching the words which thou hast heard;

19 Parce que ton cœur s’est attendri, et que tu t’es humilié devant le SEIGNEUR lorsque tu as entendu ce que j’ai prononcé contre ce lieu et contre ses habitants, c’est-à-dire, qu’ils deviendront une désolation et une malédiction, et que tu as déchiré tes vêtements et que tu as pleuré devant moi, je t’ai, moi aussi entendu, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 19 Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the LORD, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the LORD.

20 C’est pourquoi, voici, je vais te rassembler auprès de tes pères, tu seras rassemblé en paix dans ta tombe, et tes yeux ne verront pas tout ce mal que je vais faire venir sur ce lieu. Et ils rapportèrent cette parole au roi.

 20 Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.
